I enjoyed watching it but you're wrong and the old man told you so. Pljeskavica and cevapi are eaten only with onions and hot peppers but sometimes it is too hot. Ajvar, kajmak, urnebes, mustard, this is put into a Serbian-American burger. If you are eating pljeskavica and cevapi the point is to get a taste of the meat and onions give an extra aroma. When you come next time try only with onions, the difference is huge. Also, try the burek with cheese ...Cheers!!!

Why there's no meat in sarma? Strange...
@kosovosrbij61354 жыл бұрын
Did you drink boza at Pelivan? That non-alcoholic drink of fermented corn? They make it by very old recipe and arguably they make the best one, I would say, in whole Serbia. P.S. They also make very good ice cream and oriental sweets such as tulumba, baklava or kadaif. All are basically Turkish (including boza), but Serbian way. I'm really glad you enjoyed visiting Belgrade.

You did not 'mess up' with toppings :) Its completely accepted to put all sorts of things on pljeskavica, and every Serbian puts different toppings. However, the traditional way to eat it is as the owner recommended. We all ate it with onion and ground pepper and such and we know the taste very well, before we move on to experiments. He saw you are foreigner and probably will eat it just once or twice, so he wanted you to feel that traditional and real taste before you move on :)
@cibetka764 жыл бұрын
And oh nooooo Thomas ate fasting sarma, that is an abomination that we eat only on certain fasting days because we miss real sarma :) Its terrible thing that in normal circumstances no Serb would eat lol

Latecomer here! Dining in Serbia differs from that one in the west! Eating and drinking in Serbia is a slow motion ritual - "flirting with food...teasing...enjoying the aroma of the freshly prepared food" - unlike the western style of 'rushing it' to go back to work or being pressured by other patrons who are waiting for a table to open up!!!

*_pljeskavica_* - Creamy cabbage (slaw) on a burger is super delicious; even if it's not the owner's fav. Ha. *_sarma_* - Love stuffed and rolled cabbage. Delicious main dish in Romania (sarma) and Poland (gołabki); in the U.S. as well. Mmm, mmm. *_stuffed pepper_* - Beautiful. Reminiscent of Mexican chile rellenos. Don't recall if you two tried any during your visits. *_beany prebanac_* - hahaha! Fine description indeed! However, my favorite Thomas description is easily *_begedil_* somewhere in Malaysia. You can put whatever you want on pljeskavica, there is no rules. The owner is actually famous for being super strict about condiments and allows only onion and paprika. I can see that he actually eased up a bit on that as I remember times he would get really angry if you asked for ketchup, but the fact he has cabbage and other stuff means he got soft, haha. People would buy ketchup in a nearby grocery and secretly put it in the bun hiding behind the corner. But I actually agree with him, ketchup does ruin the taste a bit

Funny thing about NZ folks eating tartar sauce with fish, because over here we NEVER EVER do that :D It's like a sin, of course not in some fancy restaurants, but for us tartar is served with anything deep fried and breaded.
@ChasingaPlate4 жыл бұрын
Very different the use down here in NZ that’s for sure. Thanks so much for watching this one and we hope you enjoyed it. Cheers, Thomas 😀

We have Tres Leches here in California in Mexican restaurants. According to Wikipedia: “Tres leches cake is a uniquely traditional Latin American cake. Recipes for soaked-cake desserts were seen in Mexico as early as the 19th century, likely a result of the large cross-cultural transfer which took place between Europe and the Americas.”
