You are completely right that Ficus Elastica is marvellous for landscape. I love this plant too, but focus on its root and turn it to live works of art, such as: "Horned King Cobra", "Portable live aerial root ladder", and so forth.

Very fitting that it would be planted at Hecht Rubber Company! Can’t be a coincidence.

I have giant ones in Clearwater fl. Took 16 years. They grow so fast. I take the cuttings and just stick them deep in the ground and add water. When I top them I plant the tops and cut the leftover stem into small sticks and drive them into the ground with a hammer. They survive and grow new branches 90 percent of the time. Its fun and fast.

Roots are aggressive and prolific, that building could experience damage. I have a huge one about 25' behind my house in SWF, I can find roots over 100' away, and heavy roots above ground and well into neighboring yards. Can be an impressive and beautiful tree, but not good for neighborhood relations.

We had two in pots in the yard in Orange Park with a live oak overstory and one of them burst through the pot and rooted itself, we had to rip it out of the ground because we never intended for them to be planted in the yard. They wound up outside because we found out they weren't pet friendly for the cats. I always loved the rubber tree and wanted them as house plants buy the yard is reserved for my food forest project and I read if they were planted in the ground they would get rather large.... looking at this video I can see that they do indeed get rather large, but they are so beautiful!

that plant looks amazing for jacksonville. I was afraid to use it in Sarasota due to frost tolerance. but Sarasota is way more tropical than jacksonville so I am now comfortable to buy it for my yard :)

I have a rubber tree growing in my yard that’s gotten tall and skinny. How do I prune it to make it more bushy? It’s currently about 10 ft tall

Do you know how large the tineke would get outdoors (central Florida)? I heard it does not get "as" large as the green elastica, but that's a wide open statement knowing how large they can get! I have one in a pot and considering putting it in the ground once we remove a tree that needs to go.

I live in North east Florida as well and want to grow one of these plants! But sadly it'll have to be behind a shed. Family won't let me plant nothing up against the house.

I have a 15 ft. very old ficus elastica that's totally out of shape. If I prune it almost all the way down at it's thick trunks, will it send out new shoots? HELP!
@Sandipan_Naskar
@Sandipan_Naskar 2 жыл бұрын
Ficus are strng breed, they will surely not die, you can chop it's head off, but leave one or two thin branches, for photosynthesis. And do it in rainy season

@@Sandipan_Naskar Sandipan, thanks so much for your reply. Since no one replied right away, I went ahead and took the chance of cutting the tree down just leaving the trunk which was actually vertical! I'm happy to report that it's sprouting leaves all over, which is a great relief. I wish I knew how to send you a photo, but I don't! Thanks again. Your advice came late, but it is correct. Jill

from my experience yes! if you can you can just add some soil in the place thst you want to plant it or just add some top soil later! Generally they can grow in poor soil! Cheers from Greece
