As a Carissa Broadbent lover, I totally get where you're coming from with the world building. I enjoy a well-crafted world, but the characters keep me going. This just goes to show that we all have different tastes. I will say, Slaying the Vampire Conqueror is my favorite Crowns of Nyaxia book. Way underrated in my opinion.

For Daughter of No Worlds, books 2 & 3 expand ythe world MASSIVELY. The romance becomes a background thing in favor of lots of battles and political maneuvering (though it's not high fantasy, so dont expect game of thrones levels of intricacy). I'd say it's more of an action-packed adventure for the rest of the trilogy.

I didn't really enjoy the first two books in Serpent & The Wings of Night that much but oddly enough loved the two novellas and enjoyed Songbird the most out of the three main books. It had the most interesting story for me within the main series and is the one I'm keeping on my shelf while I already gave away my copies of the first two books.

Did you enjoy Six Scorched Roses? It completely eclipsed the main books for me 🫢 Loved it! Xx

I'm curious if you have found a DNF or a strong maybe book series but once you do read the second (third, etc) it totally redeems the series... If there are multiple, do a video.

I just finished the 2nd book in the Daughter of No Worlds series, and things really picked up there. They introduce a new POV that fleshes out the world further and the stakes have increased massively. I just started the 3rd book and I'm expecting big things haha

I was wondering if you were going to read The Songbird and the Heart of Stone by Carissa Broadbent, as it just came out. But this totally makes sense! They're definitely more character focused books with light world building/political elements.

AWWW, The Gods Below. When I saw the title of this vid, i did low key think: oh no, i think she'll include TGB. Haha. Haven't started my read yet but def keeping in mind the stuff you mentioned. i wanna give this universe a chance. Oh, i hope you continue reading The Kindred's Curse Saga. I think the series is one of the best out there. No, of course, I'm not biased because of a certain wyvern character. nope. i did manage to get through some of 4th Wing because i was desperate to see more of the dragons :( why do they give us these characters if they won't give them the screen time they deserve??? *cries because wanted the dragons more than the humans*

I hope you give Daughter of No Worlds a chance and don't DNF the series! I totally agree with you on Crowns of Nyaxia (I don't get the hype compared to the author's earlier work...I guess, because vampires??) but her other series has some heart-wrenching character work and the world-building expands a bit in the later books. You also get a really interesting POV that ties lots of things together in the end. Keep going!

I couldn't get into the nyaxia series but I'm not into vampires I thought I would love north wind and it got to after the marriage and I stopped lol maybe I'll finish it. It's been difficult to find a story I really love after reading 105 books so far this year and most of them were great it's falling flat now Except I am listening to a great audiobook it's called The Last of the Firedrakes I'm halfway through and liking it.

Your thumbnail makes me realize how bad all these covers are for most Y/A, romance fantasy book. Every book looks the same. Fancy large text on an image that looks like it was made for Pinterest. Where is the unique personality?

I love a lot of what Sarah J Maas has written, but I don’t want to read books that take direct inspiration from them. I feel like that dilutes what made her books and her characters special… So any time I pick up a book and those are the vibes I’m getting it’s automatically a bit (or a lot) of a turn off for me. I still hold the SJM worlds in a special place & would like to keep it that way. The Fourth Wing series… I don’t blame you at all. I feel like those characters are all really forced and the stakes are all over the place. I also thought Iron Flame was very poorly edited and the main character had me exasperated most of the time. I do intend to pick up the next one in hopes it will be a bit better, but the hype on these books are truly overblown. Thanks for sharing your DNFs… I’m enjoying checking out some of your content so far- I’ve appreciated your take on a lot of these books.

I can honestly say I have never heard of any of those novels. And though the world doesn't evolve around me, I've been following you for years and when you do some kind of video like this I usually, at least, know about half of them. First time for everything, I suppose.

I had to dnf Gideon the Ninth (I don’t remember the name of the series lol) after the first book. I had higher hopes going in, but it was so, so bad. I call it pretentious word soup because she uses a lot of big, fancy words to basically say nothing, and she also uses certain words in ways that I don’t believe to be correct. At first I thought the writing was ok and I would really like it but as I continued, it just felt like she was trying too hard to sound a certain way and the word choices at times made me feel like she doesn’t actually know what those words mean and how to use them. I had been considering reading Harrow the Ninth since it did sound interesting, but I read a review saying how the story was confusing and not linear. It was a positive review but seemed very negative. Maybe they didn’t mind, but I read that and remembered how much I hated the writing and thought it’s just best to move on to other things. When I was deciding whether to continue, I also saw there’s gonna be a fourth book and that was also a factor cuz I was like so this isn’t a trilogy, I can’t do this lol
