I had a rather different perspective on Trance. I thought she knew what she was doing with the slipstream and was acting all stressed out to fool Dylan and the others to thinking it was just an accident. That she specifically brought them there to fulfill the Battle of Witchhead and to adjust Dylan in some way.

Correct! Trance did know what she was doing, and in the latter series, it's even more obvious being the avatar of the oldest sun in the galaxy, fighting the Abyss ultimately. They had to go to there and fulfil destiny setting up all the events that occurred thereafter.

@@fedr39 Yea. but its easy to see why people think trance was just a stupid hot chick inserted there. Apon actually watching the show you see different but most people just hate this show and end it there. Overall the show does kinda suck but its got its moments. Like 1 out of every 10 episodes is good, like that time travel one

This episode is what I go back to when I want to watch good Sci-Fi. It has it all, theology, morality, predestination and an amazing line to be quoted spoken by Tyr in his "I never seen an angel before".

This was a great analysis of this episode and of this series. Andromeda is one of my favorite shows at the time it was on that had soooo much potential that sadly was never realized. I agree this episode was one that truly showed Andromeda’s potential to be something great. I’m assuming you read RHW’s Coda? Reading about what he envisioned the series arc to be is something I wish we had seen.

Just watched the entire series on prime video. Thotoughly enjoyed it. I only ever saw a few episodes during its original airing due to my schedule at the time. There are so many themes picked up on here . if anyone hasn't I encourage you to watch it. This series has real depth and breadth. Huge scope of universe building and bringing it back down to the personal.

My favorite episodes in Andromeda have always been the ones dealing with the old High Guard or remnants of the High Guard. This episode, The Mathamatics of Tears, Star Crossed, Homefires, The Knight, Death and the Devil, and so on. I even wrote a fanfic about them finding a schizophrenic High Guard ship before the episode Homefires.

And in my opinion if you want yet ANOTHER PERFECT EXAMPLE of how Trance is MORE than she appears just watch this scene from the alternate timeline episode 'The unconquerable man' where the events of the 'Battle of Witchhead' play out essentially the same, but it is Gaheris who has to basically/essentially decide to murder over 100 thousand of his fellow Nietziens in order to preserve history and the timeline. And in Gaheris's quarters after Tyr walks in almost IMMEDIATELY Tyr is again reminded of how if Gaheris TRULY wanted Tyr dead, then Tyr would actually BE dead. In the normal timeline Tyr actually DOES come to eventually respect Dylan (at least to some degree), but big bad tough Tyr Anasazi (out of Victoria by Barbarosa) is GENUINELY AFRAID of Gaheris Rhode.

Interestingly, this was the first episode I saw of the series while trawling through TV channels at night; I didn't actually get into the series until about five to ten years later when I finally caught the season 4 finale and wanted to see more.

Andromeda is a great show, but confusing in so many ways. It is always the only show that explores Universalism - the idea that the Universe itself is conscious, which it does through Trance and her people.

i had a different persective view on slipstream i thought it was about forks in the road and the pilot had to choose his/her path to they destination in the slip stream

11:59 it’s a shame that for the most part this show is forgotten as it’s moments like this that really show off the casts acting chops italso helps that they got a shakespearean actor to play Tyr.

I loved Harper from Episode 1, there was something about him & the way he is/was. So seeing him & his reaction to his own plan was pure genius & confirmed for me why he was is one of the best characters. Hes hurting & hes been hurt but it hasnt killed the humanity inside of him & I felt his emotions as he watched those ships & crews die.

The first 5 episodes were some of the worst tv ive ever watched, there was next to nothing redeemable........ this episode was the first glimpse of a competent...well, anything.

Most tv series start slow and find their voice as the first season ends or by the time the second season starts. It just takes time for all the participants to gel. Andromeda, to me, was the opposite. The series started off with a great roar and a excellence that lasted almost three season before something, I don't know what, happened and the writing just began a rapid decent. I wish we had a replacement for the decayed and decrepit hollywood where we could see a revisit to this wonderful show and a rebirth worthy of the original.

The show started out great, but the last season where they were stranded on the strange planet became too convoluted to the point where the writers literally wrote themselves into a corner, not only ruining the story arc, but the characters as well.

Well Season 5 is a wreck for reasons mostly-out-of-control for the writers, as Fireworks, half the production funding for Andromeda, went bankrupt and got out of its obligations for the 2004-2005 broadcast year. That doesn't necessarily mean Season 5 had to be as bad as it was, but it's hard to see a satisfying conclusion to the show under the circumstances.

One of the best of the series! I wasn't a fan of Capt. Hunt. This was an episode he did above what he did in the rest of the series. Too bad he didn't do this well overall.

I loved it and hoped it would become another movie franchise. Then with the again with the sjws Hollywood. Best to watch the series on DVD.
