😭 Thanks for the tips. Whenever I overflow my maker, I usually sob for a while and then use my tears to wipe up the spill. I guess the saltiness helps, but I’m not sure. Thanks for a great channel!

I have been in the habit of immediately after using mine, unplugging it and spritz the outside with a spritz of water. I also take a paper towel folded in the size of the cooker, spritz it and put inside the cooker. When I have finished my sandwich, it all wipes off easily. If not, spritz and plug in, and repeat towel cleaning. I use a *retired* toothbrush to remove stubborn parts.

Opened up a Dash Mini to have a good look at that "cheese juice" hole. One screw, no prob. The hole is only for a small section inside. Most c-j would run out of the 5 other larger openings around the base. If liquid is dripping out of the base it may be worth opening it up to check if any debris is inside. Of course not plugged in and do when cool to the touch. The Dash Minis (2) arrived 2 days ago. Had to repurpose the bakers rack, it's now a waffle maker station. The Dash Minis, a waffle boat maker, a larger round maker, and expecting a churro/empanada maker this week (much like the corn dog maker, but with two sets of plates), and the grinder. It sure helps when chaffles in all their variations are so darn tasty and versatile!

This is an awesome video😉 I don’t have a dash, just a regular 4 square waffle maker. I have an old stained dishtowel that I dedicate to cleaning my waffle maker and Forman grill. As soon as I’m done using either, I wet the towel, ring out excess water, fold it to fit. Place it inside and close the lid. All the steam cleans so well. The inside of both is Teflon, so I can’t scrub them. After it cools a bit I dry it with a dry cloth. I hope this helps those folks like me who don’t have a dash. You’re killing it Steve! Awaiting part 2 of your transformation. Blessings and much love to you!

It is worth noting that using a detergent cleaner on a waffle plate is never recommended kzbin.infoUgkxUfphIgghPSpAXNq6OG2WRYsFVqylcqMn though people who don't understand about kitchen hygiene won't understand that a stiff brush is all that is necessary to clean the inside of the unit. Let it cool slightly but still perform the cleaning while it's warm. I used to have a Black and Decker unit that I just loved, and was concerned when we had to replace it that I might not find one that I like just as much. This one does it for me.

Early on I watched a youtuber post some chaffle stuff and as an aside she showed how she took care of clean up. (If I could find it, I'd post the link, but couldn't) Anyway, she put damp paper towel under and folded up into grill while still hot. The steam loosened everything. I've been doing it ever since. Only, I set my Dash's on damp paper towels to begin, (this catches any spills and keeps the drain hole from greasing up counter... then when finished cooking, I fold front of paper towels into grill (unplugged of course) and clean other stuff while steam softens any spillage. The paper towel is nearly dry when I go to finish cleaning and just use them to finish a wipe down. Occasionally, I'll do more complete cleaning as you describe in your video. Great video by the way... (love the clamps and gonna get some)

I put my mini on a paper towel on the counter so if it leaks doesn't get everywhere. When I'm done as soon as I unplug it I put a wet paper towel on The Griddle and close it. After about an hour I come back and take the wet paper towel and clean in between all the lines and then take a dry towel and do the same. As for anything that might overflow and gets stuck on the outside a scrubby sponge works great to get that all off. But I didn't know about the toothpick in the hole on the bottom. Thanks for sharing that. I also like the brush idea

Hey Steve, yep, I use all of those methods, however I didn't realize that tidbit about the little screw on the bottom. It is what it is, small price to pop at ANS cleaning after each use is very helpful, as well as using the "no-spill" and if I want a smaller size I merely fill the middle of each section. Thanks Steve

I just received my Dash No Mess Waffle Maker from Amazon Warehouse. I frequently buy returned items from Amazon, taking advantage of the cheaper price. Today, the product came used with waffle residue and oil still in the crevices. Ewww! After I cleaned it, I noticed your post. I cleaned mine as you did yours, but I then plugged in the item to help burn off any unseen residue from the previous owner. Thank you for your posts and yummy recipes.

Donna Hamstra, I paid about $28. Once I discovered Chaffles, the tiny personal waffle maker was too small and time consuming for me. Most of the recipes I have been making said it would make 2 chaffles, but would really make 3-4. With this new item, I hope to spend less time in the kitchen and maybe make double batches and freeze what I don’t eat. www.amazon.com/DASH-No-Drip-Belgian-Waffle-Maker/dp/B07BTR47GM

Less batter is always better. It’s a learning experience. I always run my waffle maker (each side holding the cord to the side) under very hot water and turn it upside down on doubled paper towels to dry. Any seams can be picked out with a toothpick.

I agree -- batter control is the best answer. Nine times out of ten, I guess the batter amount correctly. Periodically, though, I get that recipe that winds up expanding more than I thought and it oozes out.

Also, I agree that a "disher" (cookie scoop) is a great tool for consistent portions. However, I find that some recipes (especially with whey protein isolate and/or baking powder) can expand at a rate faster than they cook/set, resulting in some ooze.

I have a GRAEF Matt finish waffle maker which is badly burnt . It's difficult to clean also because the ridges are triangular rather than square or rectangular. Can anyone help me with suggestions to clean the stubbornly stuck stuff ?

The dishwasher works good too. But only one time for some reason.

I warm mine up for a few seconds then switch off. If it’s warm it cleans much better

I took mine all the way apart. Found lots of cheese juice inside the bottom under the grid. The hole for cleaning it isn't in the exact center so there was a build up of juice. There's no way to stop it as they are not sealed. Maybe a more expensive one is sealed but the dollar store one isn't. I just started making smaller chaffles.

Yeah, if you're making lots of cheese based waffles/chaffles, it's worth unscrewing the bottom (I think it's just 3 small screws) to clean out the guts every so often.

Hi Steve, great video. I wanted to ask you about whey protein isolate (seeing as how you mentioned it). I found out this week that apparently it sends insulin sky high. !!!. Wondering what your thoughts are on the subject please. I use it in a couple recipes that I love, so feel sad to have to stop using it. thank you.

I generally choose not to go down a rabbit hole like this, but a cursory search on Google should eliminate your concerns about this. The study I saw referenced in the handful of article I saw supporting this claim was done on very small samples -- 14 to 22 subjects. One study was only on post-menopausal women. Another was on just on subjects with type 2 diabetes. Also, I could find no reference to the type of whey protein used (concentrate vs isolate). Isolate is lower carb, if that matters. In terms of articles, this one is probably the clearest on the subject: thestrongkitchen.com/blog/post/insulin-response-it-comes-from-eating-protein-too

@@SeriousKeto thank you. I have been googling, but as usual, coming up with conflicting info, so I thought I would ask you. I will look at the link you sent, thanks a lot. Im even trying to find the manufacturer of the one I use, but cant even come up with that.... ha ha. More investigating tomorrow. thanks again Steve and keep up your wonderful videos.

Also, if this were really the case, you'd think that this info would be far more widely propagated -- and it would send MASSIVE shockwaves through the entire low carb community. I'm far from an expert on the subject of insulin -- but I can tell you that I test my ketones every day and no recipe that I present has ever kicked me out of keto (including the ones with whey protein). I'm also not a type-1 or type-2 diabetic, so I'll have a different insulin response than those folks.

Also, I need to learn to not look at the KZbin comments on my phone when I wake up in the middle of the night, as I feel compelled to respond. Time to go back to bed. 😴🛌

My Dash sticks badly at this point without olive oil spray, probably from using soap to clean it. I've only been making the white bread recipe, perhaps it wouldn't stick for a regular Chaffle.
@SeriousKeto

I'm not sure if the soap removes any of the non-stick characteristics of the waffle maker. I just know that: 1) I never use spray, 2) I never clean it with soap, and 3) I always cook until there's just barely a whisp of steam coming out of the waffle maker. That combo has worked well for me. Perhaps, though, your on to something with trying a chaffle that would release some grease (aka "cheese juice") and see if that "renews" the non-stick surface...

I knew it!!! I put my mini D in the box in came in after I’m done and it got greasy. I thought what the heck? Where’d that come from?! It’s coming out of the mini somewhere. Now I know.
