I have been in the habit of immediately after using mine, unplugging it and spritz the outside with a spritz of water. I also take a paper towel folded in the size of the cooker, spritz it and put inside the cooker. When I have finished my sandwich, it all wipes off easily. If not, spritz and plug in, and repeat towel cleaning. I use a *retired* toothbrush to remove stubborn parts.

Opened up a Dash Mini to have a good look at that "cheese juice" hole. One screw, no prob. The hole is only for a small section inside. Most c-j would run out of the 5 other larger openings around the base. If liquid is dripping out of the base it may be worth opening it up to check if any debris is inside. Of course not plugged in and do when cool to the touch. The Dash Minis (2) arrived 2 days ago. Had to repurpose the bakers rack, it's now a waffle maker station. The Dash Minis, a waffle boat maker, a larger round maker, and expecting a churro/empanada maker this week (much like the corn dog maker, but with two sets of plates), and the grinder. It sure helps when chaffles in all their variations are so darn tasty and versatile!

This is an awesome video😉 I don’t have a dash, just a regular 4 square waffle maker. I have an old stained dishtowel that I dedicate to cleaning my waffle maker and Forman grill. As soon as I’m done using either, I wet the towel, ring out excess water, fold it to fit. Place it inside and close the lid. All the steam cleans so well. The inside of both is Teflon, so I can’t scrub them. After it cools a bit I dry it with a dry cloth. I hope this helps those folks like me who don’t have a dash. You’re killing it Steve! Awaiting part 2 of your transformation. Blessings and much love to you!

It is worth noting that using a detergent cleaner on a waffle plate is never recommended kzbin.infoUgkxUfphIgghPSpAXNq6OG2WRYsFVqylcqMn though people who don't understand about kitchen hygiene won't understand that a stiff brush is all that is necessary to clean the inside of the unit. Let it cool slightly but still perform the cleaning while it's warm. I used to have a Black and Decker unit that I just loved, and was concerned when we had to replace it that I might not find one that I like just as much. This one does it for me.

Early on I watched a youtuber post some chaffle stuff and as an aside she showed how she took care of clean up. (If I could find it, I'd post the link, but couldn't) Anyway, she put damp paper towel under and folded up into grill while still hot. The steam loosened everything. I've been doing it ever since. Only, I set my Dash's on damp paper towels to begin, (this catches any spills and keeps the drain hole from greasing up counter... then when finished cooking, I fold front of paper towels into grill (unplugged of course) and clean other stuff while steam softens any spillage. The paper towel is nearly dry when I go to finish cleaning and just use them to finish a wipe down. Occasionally, I'll do more complete cleaning as you describe in your video. Great video by the way... (love the clamps and gonna get some)

I put my mini on a paper towel on the counter so if it leaks doesn't get everywhere. When I'm done as soon as I unplug it I put a wet paper towel on The Griddle and close it. After about an hour I come back and take the wet paper towel and clean in between all the lines and then take a dry towel and do the same. As for anything that might overflow and gets stuck on the outside a scrubby sponge works great to get that all off. But I didn't know about the toothpick in the hole on the bottom. Thanks for sharing that. I also like the brush idea

Hey Steve, yep, I use all of those methods, however I didn't realize that tidbit about the little screw on the bottom. Donna Hamstra, I paid about $28. Once I discovered Chaffles, the tiny personal waffle maker was too small and time consuming for me. Most of the recipes I have been making said it would make 2 chaffles, but would really make 3-4. With this new item, I hope to spend less time in the kitchen and maybe make double batches and freeze what I don’t eat. www.amazon.com/DASH-No-Drip-Belgian-Waffle-Maker/dp/B07BTR47GM

For us, once we are done we unplug and place wet paper towel inside and close the lid. The steam cleans it out nicely, once cool we just wipe it off, easy peasy. Quick tip, just use a cookie scoop for perfect amount and place a piece of parchment paper under when cooking for easy cleanup.

Also, I agree that a "disher" (cookie scoop) is a great tool for consistent portions. However, I find that some recipes (especially with whey protein isolate and/or baking powder) can expand at a rate faster than they cook/set, resulting in some ooze.

Hi Steve, great video. I wanted to ask you about whey protein isolate (seeing as how you mentioned it). I found out this week that apparently it sends insulin sky high. !!!. Wondering what your thoughts are on the subject please. I use it in a couple recipes that I love, so feel sad to have to stop using it. thank you.
@SeriousKeto5 жыл бұрын
I generally choose not to go down a rabbit hole like this, but a cursory search on Google should eliminate your concerns about this. The study I saw referenced in the handful of article I saw supporting this claim was done on very small samples -- 14 to 22 subjects. One study was only on post-menopausal women. Another was on just on subjects with type 2 diabetes. Also, I could find no reference to the type of whey protein used (concentrate vs isolate). Isolate is lower carb, if that matters. In terms of articles, this one is probably the clearest on the subject: thestrongkitchen.com/blog/post/insulin-response-it-comes-from-eating-protein-too
@lindyhawthorne21645 жыл бұрын
@@SeriousKeto thank you. I have been googling, but as usual, coming up with conflicting info, so I thought I would ask you. I will look at the link you sent, thanks a lot. @SeriousKeto5 жыл бұрын
Also, if this were really the case, you'd think that this info would be far more widely propagated -- and it would send MASSIVE shockwaves through the entire low carb community. I'm far from an expert on the subject of insulin -- but I can tell you that I test my ketones every day and no recipe that I present has ever kicked me out of keto (including the ones with whey protein). I'm also not a type-1 or type-2 diabetic, so I'll have a different insulin response than those folks.

My Dash sticks badly at this point without olive oil spray, probably from using soap to clean it. I've only been making the white bread recipe, perhaps it wouldn't stick for a regular Chaffle.
@SeriousKeto5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if the soap removes any of the non-stick characteristics of the waffle maker. I just know that: 1) I never use spray, 2) I never clean it with soap, and 3) I always cook until there's just barely a whisp of steam coming out of the waffle maker. That combo has worked well for me. Perhaps, though, your on to something with trying a chaffle that would release some grease (aka "cheese juice") and see if that "renews" the non-stick surface...
