Dyson V7 Trigger How To Replace the Battery & Dyson Customer Service
Replacing the battery in a Dyson V7 Trigger Vacuum is easy! What's difficult? Dealing with Dyson Customer Service! In this video I not only demonstrate the battery replacement, but follow it up with my customer service experiences. Dyson products are expensive! And the high price tag includes a "Hassle-Free" warranty... so why was it such a hassle to get them to honor it? #Dyson

First, thanks so much. This video will be amazingly helpful when I switch out my battery for a new one. My Dyson V7 is just a year old and battery is dying already. But unlike many, the CS experience I had was great. Told the rep of my issue, and his only question regarded when I bought the product. He immediately sent me out a new battery (no charge) and I received it quickly. Maybe I was lucky, but the guy I had was great.

Thank you so much! The "instructions" that came with the replacement battery were useless. Installed new battery in a couple of minutes following your video. And yes, CS is terrible. Multiple "chat" texts and questionnaires that had to be completed in order to talk to a human. But I did finally get a replacement battery under warranty so there's that.

I bought the knock off battery for $32 on Amazon. Got it in 2 days. Your video showed me how to install it. Working like a charm (they shipped the battery with a charge, so I was able to use it right away). CS was useless. They wanted me to ship it to a service center. They don't seem to know the product well enough for a simple troubleshoot.

Thanks for that info and sharing your experience. I’m starting to have battery issues with my oldest handheld, so I’ll be going with a knockoff too.

I had the exact same experience with my Dyson v7. I used it very lightly for just over 2 years, and then just when I got past the two year warranty - wham, the battery suddenly died. Dyson customer service was PHENOMENALLY unhelpful when I contacted them to try to figure out what when wrong, whether the battery might be recoverable, and whether they might give me a discount on a replacement since I was literally just weeks past my warranty (spoiler alert: no). Like - think infuriating phone trees, patronizing and unhelpful automated support, then finally some sort of outsourced "customer support" call center that was utterly unempowered to do anything and therefore totally unhelpful. To say the least this is not the sort of "premium" service experience I expected from the vaunted Dyson brand. Fortunately I was able to get an inexpensive knockoff replacement battery on Amazon for $40, but when that dies (will be fun to see if it outlasts the original haha) I won't be returning to Dyson for my next vacuum. See ya...

Dyson V7 WILL NOT STOP! How to fix. Change the battery. The switch is in on the battery as well as a load of circuitry. I nearly threw mine but then realized that the switch was actually on the battery. Tested it by sticking a probe for the circuit tester in the battery slots (naughty), and found it was always on. @22v Yes, it was a knockoff battery but it lasted well with good power. New battery and all fine now. Easy.

I had the same issue with my Dyson V7 Trigger. I don’t use it often because I have a regular Dyson vacuum. I have barely used my handheld, so I was surprised when I called and they said I have a bad battery. They said I was just outside warranty, but they kept saying we don’t know how much you’ve used it. I reiterated that I barely use this and I’m disappointed it’s already not working. I expected better from Dyson. They did end up sending me a new battery. Hopefully this won’t go bad again. It’s probably just a faulty lot of batteries.
@BruceAlanR

Yes, likely faulty batteries. I really like Dyson products, but I don’t like their customer service. I’ve also noticed they’ve started shortening their warranty period for some products. Used to be 5 years and now it’s two. Interesting!

I have a Dyson Trigger Vac , its OK, but I agree with most who saying its weakness lies in the fact that it takes 3.5 hrs to charge the battery , and you only get roughly 25 mins run time ,why ? It could be very easily made to charge in an hour at least like most of my power tools , and also why not make the battery instantly removable like my power tools , that way with an extra battery you could carry on for at least 40 mins , and also Dyson would benefit from selling the extra batteries , a win win situation.
@BruceAlanR

When I use the high suction mode on my Dyson handhelds, they last about 6 minutes, which stinks! I agree that swappable batteries would be the perfect remedy. Or at least a faster charger like some power tools. We’ll have to wait for DeWalt, Milwaukee, Ridgid, Ryobi, or Makita to come out with a portable HEPA vac. Ha!

I have tried all kind of torx screwdrivers and stripped the screws under the battery casing. Can you provide a link for the Phillips screwdriver you used? Dyson sent me a new battery but it has been gathering dust because I can't remove the tamper resistent, deeply sunk screws. Was it easy to remove the screws???
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 3 жыл бұрын
The screwdriver is just a basic Craftsman #1 Phillips head Screwdriver and the screws come out easily once you get them started. Can you replace the V7 post-motor filter with the HEPA one from the V8. I saw someone is selling attachments on aliexpress.
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t know the answer; however, I wouldn’t think that it’s necessary to have a post-motor HEPA given the pre-motor filter prevents dust and allergens from being kicked out of the exhaust.

Hey, would you happen to still have the extra battery screws they sent? The replacement battery I just got didn't come with any and I lost one while taking it out to garage! So I'm running with just the 2 screws...one at top, one of two at base. But your video was a great help! Thanks! $32 amazon replacement vs $100+ dyson
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR Жыл бұрын
I’m sure I have the screws (I rarely throw parts out), but I have no idea where I’d have put them. Ha! My next batteries will be knock offs and I’ll be purchasing them from Amazon too. I believe all of our vacs are now out of warranty, but batteries aren’t covered anyway. Currently, none of our handheld Dysons can go into high suction mode without a battery fault. If I try to use high suction mode they immediately shut off and the battery light blinks. Ugh! At least they work in regular suction mode for the time being.

Replacing the rechargeable battery only needs to be done when the battery fails, which seems to be every 5+ years.
@Schweigardt
@Schweigardt 2 жыл бұрын
Quick question, if you don’t replace the three screws, will the battery fall out easily? I want to either find a true extended battery or just hot swap extra batteries because the original battery life was always poor. was thinking a thick rubber band or some Velcro strips would make the battery easily swappable with no modification
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 9 ай бұрын
The battery needs screws, but you may be able to find a slightly larger screw and thread it in. On other option is that Amazon has a bunch of battery adapters for these vacs. For example, if you have Milwaukee or DeWalt power tools, they make adaptors that allow you to use Milwaukee M18 or DeWalt 20V Max batteries. I found an adapter that allows me to use either M18 and 20V max batteries with my Dysons.

I HAVE GOT THE DYSON V7 TRIGGER FOR JUST OVER A YEAR AND NOW THE BATTERY DURATION IS LESS THAN 5MINS. IS THIS NORMAL????. HOW MUCH IS THE BATTERY PACK???. IS MY BATTERY PACK IS UNDER WARRANTY?. YOUR REPLY GREATLY APPRECIATED.
@BruceAlanR
@BruceAlanR 4 жыл бұрын
According to the manual, the V7 only lasts up to 6 minutes on Max mode (high suction). It should last up to 20-30 minutes on regular mode although that’s a stretch in my testing... and lame given it takes 3.5 hours to fully charge. The warranty covers against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 2 years; however, they’ve made it a point to note that “Reduction in battery discharge time due to battery age or use (where applicable)” is not covered. Just an FYI about rechargeable Lithium ion batteries... they typically last a certain number of charging cycles... for example, a laptop battery can typically maintain full capacity for up to 500 full charges and partial charges count as only a partial cycle (they do not count as a full cycle). Thinking aloud, if you used the vacuum every day to the point of 100% drain, that would be 352 cycles although it’s not likely you spend every day vacuuming. Anyway, I recommend contacting Dyson and pushing for a new battery under the warranty given a battery should last more than a year. Also tell them how often you use it and that you’re diligent about cleaning the filter. If they take pity on you, they’ll send you a new battery. If not, the rep said it would cost me almost $100 for a battery from them, in which case you should shop around. Keep in mind that using non-Dyson batteries will void any warranty, but once you’re out of the warranty period go with cheaper options. Good luck!

There is a way to rebalance the cells in the V7 pack, reset the error condition and it's back to work. 2 red blinks ( and one blue) it's the battery. SV10 has a different software and the blink patterns is different. See here kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3-8aauZmN-irc0
