Hi Phil, I’ve had that vinyl wallpaper trouble. For my two cents; here ya go. You should make a block of wood and drive nails through it. A lot of nails. Then take that block and scratch the Hello out of the vinyl. Poking holes won’t let enough water to soak behind it. Scratching it with purposeful force, will. Then, soak it more than once. And I mean soak it. Not just a roller. That’s not enough. Then yes, let it set. If it’s still stuck, score it some more and soak it again. Now, it should come off. Then the white paper can be taken off with a wide putty knife . It’s messy but it works. Put plastic over the wood. You don’t need to drown the floor. Just the wall. Good luck. It’s messy but it works. ❤

Something in my brain bank remembers water and vinegar. I do remember it was just regular old paper. Also used a large sponge that was used to wash cars instead of the small dish sized one. Use what you got though. Keep up the good work.

Yesss large sponge is a definite. Plastic on the floor for water spillage. It's messy.

I bought the stripper Sadie suggested for the penthouse apartment make sure to wash the walls after to remove the residue( I used a new big microfiber mop) the paint in France needs the walls to be clean and warm😊
@chaws314Күн бұрын
Equal parts water and vinegar, sponge it on the walls generously, let soak for 15 to 20 minutes, peel, repeat. If that doesn't work, you may want to try a commercial wallpaper stripper or a steam wallpaper stripper tool. Also, I would get a spray bottle so you can spray the solution under the wallpaper as you are peeling it.
@KathleenMustardКүн бұрын
Try using a spray bottle, rather than whatever it is that you were using. Let the water solution sit for awhile, it's messy, you might want to cover the floor.

I have used the fabric softener solution, and it does need to set a bit. I used a sponge mop to apply solution, it goes fast once you get your routine down 👍
@AuntieDeb71Күн бұрын
As you are applying the solution to the wall, I can hear your cloth or sponge rubbing on the texture of the vinyl surface, so I think you've got the process backward. Watering the vinyl first is a waste of time and energy, since it is waterproof. Scoring the vinyl first works against you, preventing you from pulling that layer off in large pieces or in one piece. Pull off the vinyl layer first, while it is dry, without scoring it. Then take a spray bottle and spray warmish water onto the paper backing till it turns evenly dark with water. You could add a wetting agent if needed (vinegar is good and as a bonus it helps kill mold). Let it sit a couple minutes, then use the widest metal scraper you have - the paper should come off fairly easily. Then you'll want to wash the wall with TSP to get rid of the excess paste.
@melindanaumovic8124Күн бұрын
That's definitely the usual way but for some reason not working that way. He tried to pull it of first but unfortunately it just breaks. Such a pain. I've removed many wallpapers in my life life with 4 renovations and just want to Muck in and help. Not sure if I'd get there in time all the way from Australia lololol. 😂😂😂.

1️⃣ Continue to score the Wallpaper: Use a scoring tool to gently perforate the vinyl surface. This helps the solution soak in and loosen the adhesive. 2️⃣ Apply a Stripping Solution: Mix a wallpaper stripper as per the instructions, or try a DIY mix of 2 parts warm water, 1 part white vinegar, and a few drops of dish soap. Spray generously on the wallpaper and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. 3️⃣ Peel and Scrape: Start peeling the top vinyl layer with a scraper. If the backing paper remains, spray the solution again and scrape gently. 4️⃣ Clean Residual Adhesive: Use a sponge and the solution to remove leftover glue, then rinse with clean water. 5️⃣ Inspect and Repair: Check the wall for any damage and fix it before redecorating. 🛠️ Pro Tip: Work in small sections so the solution doesn’t dry out, and be gentle to avoid wall damage. For tough spots, combine this with a wallpaper steamer for better results. Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Good work on the shredder, I'm sure that Stan and Sadie will make good use of it. I would not use the spiked roller until I’d peeled off the vinyl layer. The puncturing of the vinyl will make it tear into shreds rather than peeling off as a large sheet. Then spike the paper backing left on the wall and either steam it to loosen the glue or use the solvent.

Remember that many of the necessary little bugs, animals, etc spend their winters in fallen leaves -- queen bees are one of the many of these individuals. Rather than cutting the leaves up, killing some of the littles in the pocess, it is better to gather the leaves if they must be moved so rethink and find a way to save them and get your desire accomplished.

I found that the steamer works best by making the glue underneath soft again so the paper can peel off. It is the glue that is the problem. Once it is soft, the bottom layer will come off easier removing the top layer off, with it... Either way, it might be worth the expense to simply hire professionals to get this job done for you Phil. Especially since you have several rooms of this, Phil. Sometimes saving your time, (for other projects) is more valuable than saving the money....They are professionals for a reason.

Sorry to hear your back is still not ready for a ladder. Since wallpaper is applied from the top down it's easier to remove the same way from top down. It's a glue thing. The wall paper is so old the top coating will be brittle and just be a pain to remove no matter what you do.
