Very nice cosmetic condition. Typical powers up and hums. Let's get it fixed.

Uber cool tuning indicator coupled with radioactive clock hands makes this radio the best Thanks Jordan

I remember that giant Stewart Warner factory back in my old hometown of Chicago. Was 3 blocks long by 2 blocks wide and six stories tall. Nice clock radio worth the electrical upgrade if no SMD!

A nice dose of radium from that clock dial!

That's a really cool-looking set, don't think I've seen one like it. I always j-hook my connections for the same reason---I've broken off socket lugs trying to go point to point, as just the heat from the iron is enough to cause metal fatigue. I hope you do more of these radio vids, they're fun. Oh, and 50C5 outputs are some of the most unreliable tubes ever made----H/K shorts are common

That's a nice little radio, it sounds good and no humming. (it knows the words). it does seem a bit quiet between stations, but that can be a good thing. There may be very few stations in your area, so it could be just that. Maybe i'm just used to hearing noise from transistor radios. The moving light is so unusual, i like that :-D Don't expect multimeters to cope with low picofarad capacitors, the leads ruin it. I use one of those "transistor testers" and the leads are less than 1 inch long. I also have a tester that uses the cap or inductor to resonate L-C . Sorry long waffle :-(

Greetings: C30 .05 uf "death cap" is the only part connected to chassis on this "floating" B- set. Your replacement goes from B- to B-. Go ahead, measure the voltage across it! That cap went from chassis to the clock power "ON" switch. The parts list shows a black pointer moving with the "glow lite", but I do not see it in any video or still.

32:12 The 1K probably changed/lowered value when you heated it when unsoldering, I've seen carbon comp's do that more than once. Hopefully it won't drift back higher than it was. I hope it behaves itself and plays for many more years for someone 👍

Beautiful radio. I wonder if that cabinet was designed to look a little "retro" when it was new (like an ode to 1932)?

Maybe. They came in multiple color combinations to mimic the earlier catalin counterparts

Not a fan of clock radios but overall, a cool radio with the simplicity of it and the neat dial which is really quite unique.

Oh man, that old B&K LCR meter, they do make some good quality stuff, kudos... Have you ever though about upgrading, DE-5000 or similar maybe?

Might not be the best idea to put the 100uf in there as first filter. That's 250% max filter capacitance for the 35w4, that's gonna reduce the lifetime of that tube significantly

If we were hot cycling it with the filaments lit, I could see the surge current being an issue. However if we're starting cold and the rectifier is not conducting the surge current isn't there to harm the rectifier. Also, the 27ohm resistor in series with the anode would take the blunt of the surge. If you're going by the book the original 50mfd would be too high as well.
