Just a tip from a mechanic bro, when you put the o ring on the oil filter casing put some oil on it before putting it back in the car it stops the o ring getting stuck and ripped while putting in and can cause an oil leak keep up the good work

The OtherStuff it is, you put oil on the o ring so that it doesn’t rip when you screw the filter in, seeing as you already screwed it in without oil on the o ring it won’t matter

Tip buddy usually you undo the oil filter first and this allows any oil up in the filter housing the drain down and makes the oil draining process quicker as it does airlock on itself, the way you did it was fine just a tip

I’ve just serviced my own car, oil filter, oil change, fuel filter, performance air filter, cabin filter, new sump plug, first thing I’ve ever done mechanically, I’m more than willing to give glow plugs etc a go in 6 months.

Youlll get the 6 month MOT extension because we’re in lockdown. Just have to make sure your tyres, brakes e.c.t are still legal if your out and about driving. I service my own car saves a fortune. Spark plugs are dead easy to do. Just have to be careful not to cross thread. Coolant change usually gets done (depending on the manufacturer) but usually at same time the timing belt is changed, although some cars can be timing chain, and not need changing/ inspecting as often.

Just for future reference when changing the oil filter it is best to prime it with some of the new oil. It reduces friction and stops potential leaks. 👌

You should have done a pollen filter change as well. BTW check the windscreen washer pump on the front and rear to make sure that enough screen wash come out as, a good flow has to come out for MOT otherwise you might be failed.

The battery problem is probably due to it not getting driven, the voltage slowly drops over time. I’d go out every couple of days and let it sit for a bit to recharge, it’s not the same as driving but will help. I’d also say to disconnect anything in the car, like chargers and stuff that could drain the battery.

I'd be careful doing coolant changes as its not easy getting trapped air bubbles out the system

Corsa's typically overtime bleed the air out themselves and do not have a valve however, some cars however do have bleed valves. Typically if you ever get an airlock in the system, let the car idle and whack the fan up so you can feel the air coming through the car. Rev the car to about 3/4k for a good few minutes until you feel the heater get warm. Once it's starting to pull through warm air you should then be set.
