You are a National Treasure, Mike. 58 Fastwind 18 hp with a sudden loosened high speed holding nut (got lucky and catched it at home). Motor wouldn't start and gas coming out. Needless to say, run inside to KZbin and surely you had the cure. Now the nut is tight again and both needles re-adjusted. Thank you!

Tmike, Enjoyed the 1955 5.5 detailed carb dialing in video. Very thorough and appreciated. Question if I may. My 1976 Johnson 9.9 I just put a carb kit. It will be awhile before I watch enough videos to move along with various steps on this project.. For now, just wanted to verify IF I only have a low speed adjustment on top of carb throat that I can see. Does it not have a high speed adjustment? Thank you whenever you may have time to reply.

No high speed adjustment. There is a fixed orifice

Smoke is either too much oil or running on one cylinder.

I have a 1963 10 hp Johnson and trying to get it run right is driving me nuts. This was a motor that came with my Jon boat. I rebuilt the carb ( which when I opened looks brand new) and checked the points and they’re at .020. And everything in there looked new also. So my problem os it won’t idle and stay on when I have the cam roller on the mark. I started my needles at the recommend turns out and it wouldn’t start. I adjusted the high out to almost 2 then it would start. And when I go to adjust my needle out the packing nut keeps loosening so I have to keep a wrench on it to keep it from coming out and dripping fuel. I put new packing in both but still seems to want to work it’s way out. If I tighten em to the point where I hope it won’t move the needle get pretty hard to turn. So that’s my first problem. Next I replaced my fuel lines and fuel pump because I keep saying an air pocket in the clear line. Is that normal? Should my fuel tank be sealed or vented? Bought a new tank also that has an option to vent or not. My hand pump will get firm but never rock hard. So I don’t see where I don’t see where I would get an air leak. This motor has a lot of new parts and I would hate to have to throw in the towel on it. Compression is at 70 on both cylinders also. New plugs too. Gapped accordingly. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. It’s an American classic and want to keep it going. But I’m so lost now. I don’t know what to do anymore. And one more question. Do need the propeller on the outboard for pressure when I do all this or should I remove it to dial it in?

So I have a 1956 evinrude 5.5 2 stroke. The problem I’m having is that I can’t get the low idle speed to adjust to make the Rpms go up so it won’t run past the start spot on the tiller handle. I can’t get it so I can run in the shift or slow spot on the tiller handle

Hey T-Mike that black bushing on the throttle lever on top of the carb is that needed and where can I get one my CD-12 doesn’t have one and I can’t get it to idle

Yep, these old carbs are cool except the 47 TD-20 johnson. Not crazy about the design they did. I guess that's why they were better on the later years

Hey T-Mike, I have a 1967 Evinrude 6HP (6702 D). I have trouble finding information on my particular motor and I am new to boating. I noticed that my "Evinrude Johnson Carburetor Throttle Spring 203166 0203166" popped off, but I am not sure where it goes and I can't find videos about it. Is there any information you have on this part in any of your videos?

hi mike, i have a 1957 johnson simalar to the one in this video, exept it has a starter. i was rebuilding the carburator and the threads for the low speed needle valve broke and sleeved out. at first i thought it was some king of spacer as it broke out in a almost perfect cicle abot 3/8" long. it was the dammdest thing. any sugestions for a possible repair?
