The video I've been waiting for. Excellent. I have the older version and was not sure if I should adjust the Idle with the d shaped screw. Woo hoo, I'm going to have an engine that doesn't sound like it's going to die at idle!!!!!

Good content. Thanks Liked and subscribed. I have a 2007 sportsman 800 EFI that has been backfiring a few seconds after the throttle is let off from a high output. It has now started to shut off while idling sometimes. It is idling too low. I believe the issue is it’s running lean so I’m planning to clean the fuel passages.
@TPSTool8 ай бұрын
In addition to the TPS, be sure to check that the fuel injector is clean, the filters are clean and the fuel pressure is good. All of these can make it run lean. Also check for any air leaks between the throttle body and the head.
@nelsod768 ай бұрын
Thanks for the reply. Wasn’t expecting anything. Appreciate it. I’ll have to get a fuel pressure tester. How do you check injectors? Remove and?
@TPSTool8 ай бұрын
@@nelsod76 Without a cleaning kit, the best way I can think of is to do whatever you can to get a good view of it and see what type of pattern it gives you with wide open throttle while trying to start it. A spray pattern is good, streams or drips are bad. Motion Pro makes a cleaning kit that might work with that injector.

I'm currently working on a Polaris Ranger 700Xp. So far, I've replaced the Fuel Pump, regulator, cleaned injectors, and cleaned out the gas tank. The previous owner had let it sit in the garage basically since 2018. With everything installed the machine won't start or idle without giving it some gas. Any ideas? I'm wondering if my idle needs adjustment
@TPSTool Жыл бұрын
You didn't mention the model year, but check if that model and year has an IAC valve (Idle Air Control). Some years do, some don't. If yes, I would start by cleaning that, and if that doesn't do it then look in the manual for a test procedure to be sure it's working properly. If you don't have the service manual, you can likely buy one online for a few bucks or check sites like manualslib.com.
@tlashley Жыл бұрын
@@TPSTool Sorry, my Ranger is a 2007. Its only got a 100 hours on it and 200 miles, so the machine is very clean for the most part. It just hasn't been used in several years. I did buy a service manual and had it spiral bound at Office Depot. I'll check and see if I can find any info on the IAC valve or if it has one at all.
@TPSTool Жыл бұрын
@@tlashley I don't think that year has an IAC, but definitely double check me. You could check the TPS just to be sure it's working properly, but with such low hours a failed TPS would be unlikely, unless maybe it was stored in a very humid or harsh environment. My first guess is something is dirty or stuck. I would resist the urge to "adjust" things until after everything has been cleaned sterile clean. That is assuming it was working properly when it first went into storage. Do you have any way to verify that it was working properly last time it was used before long storage?
@tlashley Жыл бұрын
@@TPSTool the precious owner said they drove it around their yard a few times after they got it and then it sat in the garage until I got it from them recently. So, as far as I know it was running prior to storage. I’m wondering if my regulator could be bad. I’m getting 40 psi but I had to clean and re use the old regulator because the one I purchased ended up not being the right one. Otherwise everything else in the fuel pump assembly is new. We also cleaned injectors.
@TPSTool Жыл бұрын
@@tlashley Speaking of regulator, also check the battery voltage while the motor is running. Some Polaris motors won't run right if the battery voltage is too high or too low, which happens when the voltage regulator goes bad.

Would I need to adjust TPS after installing new injectors and fuel tank assembly on 2006 Ranger 700XP? It idles, just very low. Thanx!
@TPSTool8 ай бұрын
Thanks for your question. In theory you should not have to adjust the TPS after installing new injectors or a tank. Was the idle low before you replaced the parts?
@roberttanner42258 ай бұрын
@@TPSTool It was a little low, but I attribute that to only having 20 psi fuel pressure. Has new spark plugs as well.
@TPSTool8 ай бұрын
@@roberttanner4225 Low fuel pressure will make it run lean, fix the fuel pressure issue before bothering with anything else. The manual will have the spec for fuel pressure, I'm not sure what it is off the top of my head.

@@TPSTool Sorry, I have replaced Fuel Pump Unit with the tank assembly as well as injectors. My first question was not clear, sorry. I have 40 psi now on the new injectors. off idle throttle response is not crisp as it used to be either. Thank you for your time!
@TPSTool8 ай бұрын
@@roberttanner4225 While replacing those would not affect the TPS, you could adjust the TPS as a way to tune it a bit. Make adjustments up or down about 0.02V at a time, that should get you a small but noticeable change. Try adjusting down first (leaner), keep repeating the 0.02V adjustment as long as it gets better. If it's not better then adjust in the other direction. Similar to tuning a carburetor, turn it up a little and down a little looking for your favorite spot. It's too sensitive to eyeball the adjustment, use the TPS Tool will tell you how much you've moved it.

I have an 06 Ranger 700. I got it cheap cause it didn’t run. The ECM was fried and I replaced that. I know it went meltdown because it melted the plastic connectors going into the ECM. I bought kit and rebuilt connectors. I think they are right. The motor started and it ran like a champ for 15 minutes. Then it bogged down no power, stalled on idle, and started backfiring. Now it won’t start at all. It tries but backfires only. Plugs are brand new and they look like it was running rich as they are black now. Do you think this could be my issue? I’ve changed the fuel pump, cam sensor and no luck. I have good fuel pressure. Beating my head on the wall for 6 months with this thing.
@TPSTool Жыл бұрын
The TPS is a possibility, but check the basics first. Make sure you're getting spark, see if you can get any codes out of the ECU. Also go over all the wiring harnesses very carefully, Polaris is known to have chafing issues on many models causing the insulators to wear through on the wires and allowing them to short on the frame or to each other. Also make sure the fuel injector is clean and check the spray pattern to be sure it's spraying as expected.

@@TPSTool I’m getting misfire code according to the engine light. I’ve replaced both injectors with brand new ones. I’ve noticed that the tps sensor looks new. I have not replaced that. Guy I got it from may have done that and not realized that it required tuning. I’ve checked all wires many times and I can’t figure it out. Spark is fine. I’m about outta ideas. Thanks for the reply. If I’m only getting 1.5 volts at WOT, does that mean my tps is bad?
@TPSTool9 ай бұрын
Thanks for your question! If everything is connected correctly, that's not a good sign for your TPS. Are you using the TPS Tool to power the sensor, and what reading do you get at idle? Also what happens to the readings as you slowly open the throttle?
