Set-Up Fully Kiosk Browser on Fire Tablet with SharpTools | SmartThings Command Center (2021)
In this video, we will be installing the Fully Kiosk Browser on an Amazon Fire Tablet and using it to show our SharpTools dashboard full screen. We will also be installing a live screen saver that will be great for all ages.
We will enable all of the best settings on the Fully Kiosk Browser so you can get the maximum performance out of your Amazon Fire Tablet and SharpTools Dashboards! This is the perfect way to display SharpTools dashboards and allow anyone in the home to easily see and control your smart home with just a tap!

Nice video. I was able to get Fully Kiosk up a running with minimal effort. Do you have a tutorial on how to set up your SharpTools dashboard? I love your layout, but I think I would switch the front and back door locks :)

Hi Justin. I've learned plenty from watching your videos. I'm newish to home automation, sharptools, and the fire tablets. There are some great deals on the 7 and 8" tablets so I'm thinking of getting an 8" tablet. What is your recommendation of using the fire tablet 1) as is, 2) just just removing the ads, 3) adding the Play store, or 4) making the tablet a completely clean android tablet? I would like to use the tablet for more than just a smart display. Thanks.

I like the 10 inch tablets. But any size will work. Amazon tablets are the best because they are the most inexpensive. You can do everything that you listed without a problem but with the latest fire iOS software some of the converting your tablet to android will not work properly.

Greetings to you, Justin! You're my go-to channel I visit first if I happen to need assisted tutorials for my fire tablets. I really appreciate the thorough, easy to follow content and your obliging responses. I was wondering if you happen to know if there is a way to add a live background for these Fire Tablets. I'm using the Fire HD 10 (2019 - 9th Gen), which has already been modified by Fire Toolbox using Nova Launcher, thanks to one of your videos. I've tried various applications that use a video as a live background which work when activated. But, once the screen is powered off into standby mode and the screen is unlocked, the live background reverts to its original wallpaper I once had it on before activating the video background app. I've also tried many applications as well that have live wallpapers and the exact same thing happens as mentioned above. I'm beginning to speculate live backgrounds are not functionally stable with Fire OS seeing how I cannot get one to remain activated. If you happen to know if there is a way to maintain a live background, whether it'd be via video or live wallpaper, it would greatly appreciated. Thank you kindly, Justin!

This will work on any android tablet. You’ll have to use another application if you have an iOS Tablet.

@SimplySmart123, when choosing a Fire tablet for this application, does it matter if its ad supported or without ads? Also you mentioned that this set up is used with Smartthings/Hubitat Hubs. Do you know if this set up is compatible with the Aeotec Hub, because the Aeotec is Samsungs offer to replace my Samsung Smarthings ADT hub?

This will work on all fire tablets regardless if they have ads on them or not. I have a video on how to remove the ads if you’re interested. The Aeotec Hub is a SmartThings Hub. Aeotec will be making all SmartThings hardware going forward.

Definitely. I don’t think I purchased anything with extra memory but you can always add memory later if needed.

Hi am am using an aftermarket 5V 6A power supply too run a Fire HD10. I am currently running this exact screensaver and I am losing about 25% battery life daily. Is there a setting I can change? To avoid the tablet from running all the way to 0?

My tablet has constant power from an outlet so I have no issues like that but it will use a lot of battery life since the screen never turns off.

Yes. If the Fully Kiosk Browser is used, and connected to SmartThings/Hubitat using the Fully Kiosk DTH, you can create a rule to stop screensaver on the fully browser when an event is triggered. I have not tried this but it could be a great video to get your Dashboards more Automated.

So when you say you need a hub, I assume google or Alexa doesn't count? All my smart devices are controlled by Google currently and I would like to maintain the ability to control them with voice as well as the dashboard. Do I still need to get a hub?

For you to use SharpTools you will either need a SmartThings hub or a Hubitat hub. Alexa and Google are not Hubs they are voice assistants. If you upgrade to a SmartThings hub you will have so many more options but I bet many of your devices may not be compatible especially if they are WiFi based.

I don’t think you need a license to activate the plus features. But it will have a watermark on your screen if you use any plus features without having a plus license. It's just a small 1 time fee per device.

I think you can probably do that with a screensaver.

Yes. You can connect to SharpTools using any device that connects to the Internet. I can even access it on my Tesla screen.

I have put in the link to my dashboard of Sharptools on the Fully kiosk browser, when ik put in the link on a normal computer i got my dashboard but on my Fire, i got the login page from Sharptools, and when i login and enter the dashboard, after 20 seconds i got the screensaver but when opening the dashboard is gone, and again the inlogpage with the 3 buttons Google mail / email /phone

You will need to login the first time. Sounds like you might have a setting wrong there is clearing the cache

That is a good question. Basically the aquarium is just a video playing on the screen so I am not sure if you would be able to overlay a clock onto that. But I am sure you could use another static image with a clock.

I used a DAKboard URL as screensaver and it has rotating pictures from a shared icloud album with a calendar and clock overlay. it looks good and may be what you are looking for.

Hello, Unable to open URL from Kiosk Browser to set up Sharp Tools. Could this be the issue.... When I was following your set up I noticed my tablet (Fire HD 10.1 11th generation) does not have "Open URL Schemes in Other Apps" All other items where listed throughout set up. Not this one.

Yeah. You need to use the Fire OS version. A Google search should help you find it.

Hey I don’t think you need to kiosk mode. You just use the fully kiosk browser application and it will work.

Maybe try to restart your tablet. Sometimes it gets messed up after Amazon updates the tablets. Usually restart typically fixes the problem.

I think you can have it show a site. So if you have a link directly to a weather forecast you could use that. SharpTools also has a weather forecast screen also.

Are you putting the screensaver path into fully kiosk browser? Maybe verify that path with a file explorer application.

To add a screensaver you will need to have a pro license for the fully kiosk browser. I think it’s only a few dollars and it’s worth it to unlock all of its features.

You have to buy a license and activate it. I think it's around $5.

It is linked to one device so if you have two devices you would have to get to licenses. There is a way to deactivate it from one device and reactivate it on a different device but it can only be used on one device at a time.
