The greater the threat in monster the more likely they are to have some massive choir in their theme and some other traits. Safi’Jiiva is most definitely one of the strongest monsters we’ve ever seen and the choir shows.

This can be clear with another favourite monster of mine which is Raging Brachydios. Very simmilar to Xeno's and Safi's. The original theme is lacking choirs and the rhythm and beat is all over the place. While Raging Brachydios is much more controlled with each beat and strike feeling planned and calculated by Raging Brachydios. This, matched with the choirs to feel how truly powerful this monster has become over its kind, gives us a feeling like no other.

There are two big things that get missed without gameplay: 1) The heartbeat comes when you are targeted specifically by Safi. It adopts a little of a Final Fantasy aggro system. It's more like the hunter's heartbeat, or even the targeted hunter hearing the monster's heartbeat as all its rage is focused on that person. 2.) The "Sapphire of the Emperor" bit happens at any point within the music when the monster uses one particular attack that is effectively a DBZ area-destroying move. You get to hide behind some rocks, but the attack itself is effectively and area-wide nuke. It overpowers the music and cuts it out entirely as this concentrated ball of starlight drops to the ground and explodes, resuming as the sound of the explosion and the ringing fades out. It is an incredibly cinematic moment.

In safi jiiva's mission there is an aggro mechanic where the monster is observing you and actively attacking you, the targeting part of the song always gave me chills when the giant dragon is tearing me a new one. Nice reaction jesse, didn't believe you would react to the whole theme because of how extensive it is.

The heart beat part is easier to hear in the game, it is part of the target theme. The idea is that your hunter is targeted and they get so scared they can hear their own heart beat, only the person being targeted hears the heart beat.

To explain why many of these Monster Hunter "Medley" videos has so many repetitions of the same theme with variations : Every combat / monster theme (at least from this Monster hunter game) has both it's normal, more "chill" variant, as well as a "Mount theme" variation that adds intensity with percussion. You only hear the mount versions of themes for short periods of time in game (when you're mounting the monster), it works as adaptive music. Additionnally as other people have already brought up, this monster specifically also has a unique trigger that adds an heartbeat and some almost airhorn-like sounds when you're being targeted over your other teammates. Which is why you heard the same theme with a normal version, mount version, heartbeat version, mount + heartbeat at the same time... it's quite a lot, but in game it flows really well together. Also, you were correct ! Even though the song does have a somewhat fast tempo, this isn't actually a fight that I would define as "all over the place", and Safi indeed fights more as a gigantic lumbering dragon than one going in an out of your eyesight constantly. Always really impressive when people can figure out the "personality / fight" of a monster just based on its music !

I feel like giving him videos which include mount themes (that don't have them listed through the chapter feature) just make him more confused than anything. The mount themes are good, but some of these medleys don't really make sense when you shadowdrop them.

Basically, the Medley of Safi showcases the focus of safi´jiiva at 7:55. The Bass heartbeat in the background is supposedly safi´jiivas heart that the hunter can hear that safi is focused on. Funfact, Only the Targeted Player gets the heartbeat theme, the others have the normal theme. It also builts up to his Nova attack where everything falls silent.

Safi'jiva' fight is a capital R Raid. It takes multiple hunting parties, each running the quest several times to take this red boi down. I also think it's worth noting that the third phase's theme is called "For the emperor's amusement" which honestly just slaps.

I love how the percutions changes from a tribal drum in the first phase because we're unexperienced agains the mosnter, to a martial drum in the last phase because we now know the monster. also the female choir represents the monster and the male choir is the hunter, in the last phase the male choir is more present because it's when we're at our fiercest. the exact same happens in the Fatalis theme.

Aww man, memories. Surprised the medley did not include the "nuke", as I've seen some versions include (I really felt it coming when the heartbeat got stronger). Still, fantastic. BTW, as another said, when you are directly targeted by Zafi you get the heartbeat sound on you, I've seen it debated whether it is your own or Zafi's, quite thrilling. Occasionally it may try to blow up the entire arena, muting all sounds save the heartbeat as you have a few seconds to scramble for safety.

At the time World and Iceborne released, Xeno'Jiiva and Safi'Jiiva were the newest iteration in a long lineage of truly mythical elder dragons for the Monster Hunter series. Often called the "black dragons" even though many of them are not black in color, the first of them was indeed black in color and up until recently they were intentionally put on media embargo by Capcom where official media and guides were not allowed to mention them. They're on "blackout". The Safi'Jiiva legend is old, serving as the creator deity for the rediscovered ancient lands where they reside, but they have only recently awoken from their eons of slumber. The Jiiva are the end of dragons, calling out for their kind to return and collecting their spirits at the end of their lives, so your "underworld" comparison was spot on. This is definitely the ruler of the underworld as far as Monster Hunter Dragons are concerned. As compared to the first species of their class, Fatalis, which is said to be the progenitor of all dragonkind (or at least the white variety is). 26:37 I think you're tuning into how a lot of the tracks in Monster Hunter are framed as ancient chants and ballads about a dragon's legend, simultaneously deifying them and also warning future generations about their powers. Safi'Jiiva is also special because they serve as a reference to a different Capcom property, Dragon's Dogma, which features a similar looking red and black dragon with a similar focus on heartbeats and constellations on its wings...

Safi'jiva isn't a black dragon
@proudlarry8225
@proudlarry8225 9 ай бұрын
@@Rageouz It 100% is because Capcom's own website that had the preview for Safi'Jiiva was labeled as such and it's also labeled with the same term within both the Japanese and Localized versions of Dive to Monster Hunter World Iceborne (Monster Hunter World Complete Works). Remember, most of the "Black Dragons" are not, in fact, black in color. It's very confusing, I know, but in the Japanese there is a terminology distinction between "Black Dragons" and "The Black Dragon". Another term for "Black Dragons" is Dangerous First Class Monsters (第一級の危険モンスター) which includes more or less every "endboss" dragon that is roughly on the level of the Fatalis. And in the complete works it does also mention that Fatalis was drawn to the new world because it could sense Safi'Jiiva, and that Alatreon was drawn to the new world because it wanted to eliminate Xeno'Jiiva cocoons because Safi'Jiiva is its competitor.
@JamesNintendoTurd
@JamesNintendoTurd 9 ай бұрын
@@proudlarry8225 The official term is "Forbidden Monster", and refers to how those monsters were not allowed to be in marketing material, with small exceptions. "Black Dragon" is a fan term derived from how Fatalis, Alatreon, and Dire Miralis have "Black Dragon" in their titles. Also, Safi'jiiva was never referred to as a "Forbidden Monster", and its title is "Red Dragon". It's obviously designed as a parallel to Fatalis, and they purposely kept it secret for the initial dev diary introducing the update, but officially it hasn't been confirmed if it also counts as a "Forbidden Monster" (though "Forbidden Monsters" as a concept don't really work anymore with the existence of the internet).
@proudlarry8225
@proudlarry8225 9 ай бұрын
@@JamesNintendoTurd Just because they broke the media embargo policy for it doesn't mean they didn't call it one on the actual official website that first revealed its existence in the first place. The Japanese term used was exactly the same as the others.

Not a choir, but If you haven't heard Raphael's boss them from Baldurs Gate 3, it's worth a listen. It's got classic Disney villain (e.g. Scar) vibes.

There’s a theory that Safi’jiiva is an alien from space disguised as an elder dragon, and I think that fits this theme perfectly. In the beginning it sounds majestic and grand as you face off against this powerful elder dragon, this god of your world. Yet as you progress, and as it gets angrier, its facade starts to break. And then it targets you, and through that connection it begins to show its true self. This creature is not what it seems. Through eons, perhaps even millennia, of luring elder dragons to it and feeding off of them, this alien creature began to adapt and change. Through the bio energy of the elder dragons it has consumed, it has disguised itself as an elder dragon. Blending in with the creatures of this world, it has continued to feed off the monsters and land around it, draining them of all life. Slowly and slowly it’s been consuming these lands, growing more powerful. This elder dragon form that you are fighting is merely a thin cloth concealing the true horror underneath. And that’s when the _true_ theme kicks in. You here this unnatural heart beating. The once grand choir is being overpowered by sirens, synth, and other chaotic, unnatural noises just as Safi’jiiva’s grand disguise is being broken to show the true horror underneath. The percussion is frantic, sirens are wailing, and panic starts to set in. The already tense theme becomes chaotic and unpleasant to listen to. You were trained to hunt monsters, not beings from another galaxy. If this thing could potentially rival Fatalis, what can you possibly do to stop it? There’s nothing to stop this alien from consuming this world and moving on to the next. As you realize this, you begin to despair. The true Safi’jiiva as been revealed, and it’s more horrifying than anything you could have possibly imagine.

The language that is spoken is Wyverian, a race in the monster hunter franchise. The heartbeat segments are mostly towards the player targeted by safi, so all of its focus is driven from other players and now solely wants to remove you from the census. While lately monster hunter has been adding choir to monster themes, the ones where are basically an entire orchestra are usually reserved for those encounters that will be one of the most challenging the games have to offer.

1. Like Nier, Monster Hunter has it's own made up language. 2. Safi'jiva has a gimmick where it focuses on a single player. You only hear the heartbeats when it focuses on you. 3. I think Safi'jiva is loosely based on the fall of Lucifer. Sapphire Star is a parallel to Lucifer's Morning Star. The first time you fight Safi'Jiva, it was known as Xenojiva and more alien (angelic) look while bursting with light. After beating it, its body literally descends to the depths of the New World where it recovered and takes on the red demonic look.

As I understand it, the heartbeat like sound during the target version is very intentional and actually meant to be the sound of the player character's own heartbeat. The reason could easily be taken from the name itself: target. _You_ are the target. This version of the theme only plays when you manage to convince the land draining behemoth to stop attacking your allies and start trying to kill you specifically. As the headcannon goes; in that moment, despite your hardships, despite your triumphs, despite it all, for the first time ever, your hunter is _terrified_ .
