We had a setup at one of our radio sites that was two systems that put each other into alarm. It was the biggest PITA on earth... you had to have two people to clear it, as the reset buttons had to be pushed at the same time or you'd go around again... I enjoyed ripping that link out!

The hate is crazy. People can't mind their own damn business. Just because us individuals enjoy electronics and fire notification systems doesn't mean we're any different from other members of society. The entire problem with this generation is that we're too concerned with what others are doing and attacking them for it, instead of living a life worth living. You've done excellent work and one day, I would love to accomplish everything you've done. I mean, an entire house Life Safety System, you rock man. Way more in depth than my plywood board that, while following the fire code, is too small for my ambitions. Thank you for the amazing content, stay safe brother. ✊

11:15 The out of sync effect of the alarms from two separate systems sounds cool as they can't activate at the same time and that for a building's networked system would have booster panels connected to each other and programmed to be connected to all systems that would follow the sync so that every networked system node has their devices synced using the system's sync protocol and booster panels all connected into each other
@ethangreenyt8 ай бұрын
At my school, nothing that isn't new is all out of sync with strobes and horns so you hear a mix of temp 3, constant, and slow pulse. It just sounds like if someone put together alarms they found and played them at different times.

Nice video, as always. By the way, I noticed throughout a lot of your videos that when you test fire alarms, you don't wear ear protection. I was just wondering why you don't, because obviously, fire alarms are loud and if you're around them for a long period of time, it could cause some hearing damage. I've expierienced that myself, and it's not fun.

Wish that honeywell could make a feature where if you reset or silence the house or garage panel itll do the same thing for the other system where it silences like the other panel does to. Even when resetting that panel that got tripped and sent into alarm can also reset the panel in the house or garage too.

I think the reason why there is that kind of perceived hate is because people would say these kinds of systems should strictly belong to commercial premises, they may also argue for what they think is a better alternative. The whole point to their arguments is that they believe that the factor of cost should supersede every rationale in designing a life safety system and that, furthermore, the ideal is to engineer a setup that is as cheap as possible (as the absolute number one priority) while maintaining code compliance, and be as simple as humanly possible. Hence that's why I think there are so many criticisms of your setup. Now, this comment isn't meant to instill hate, it's only meant to be transparent about what I think the rationale of some of your critics are. As a DIY systems integrator, DIY system admin, programmer, developer, and designer, I personally admire and take inspiration from your projects and for me to want to build a similar system in my parent's house is actually something I also wanted to do for years. So, without making it any more long winded, keep up the work! You will go very far.

Hey Nic, great explanation of why you don't normally have them set up to put each other in alarm. I was wondering, if they were left monitoring each other, what would be required to sync the 2 alarms properly? Can it even be done with panels from different brands (although I know both brands are both owned by Honeywell)?
@nics-systems-electric8 ай бұрын
It cannot be synced if they are only activating each other with monitoring of a relay the panel in the garage is not one that can be networked however the one in the house can be to a compatible panel that would give you sync

Kind of getting what u r explaining. In ur setup the garage system only causes a supervisory on house system, and it is non latching. So what u did after all systems in alarm only caused a supervisory on house system and can be cleared later when garage system is reset. The problematic case is that both system can put each other into full alarm. This will need 2 people to work the system and reset at same time. Else it is endless loop of alarms.

How old is that dog? I ask because if the dog is getting complacent and apathy towards the alarm and the dog never used to, that could be a concern. A dog having no concern for alarms but used to bark at the alarm before and now is not, that could be a tell tale sign that the dog is on his way out. I had a Morkie (half Maltese and half Yorkie) who she used to bark like mad when I would test alarms. Right before she passed away, she started becoming complacent. How old is your dog?
