@elenacarvell33466 жыл бұрын
Chris Estep I actually filmed my whole process but cut it out to make the video shorter 😂 basically, I use a ton of water and soak it in a tub with the lid closed for a few hours... otherwise it’s really difficult to break apart. Light misting doesn’t seem to help much. If it’s too wet after I break it apart I’ll leave the tub open for a few hours after I pull it apart so it has some time to dry out a little

IMO, this isn't the way to set up a ball python enclosure! I blame the lack of information out there... The information that IS out there can be hella contradicting. But this is what I've found to be the general rule of thumb: The enclosure should be big enough to have two hides on opposite sides of the cage. This gives the little guy to choose whether or not it wants to be in a hide in a cool or warm area! I typically use two of the same hides.... That way if he/she prefers one over the other, they don't have to choose! Also, having that much stuff in a single enclosure can really make it difficult to clean! Everything else is on point, and you have a very informative/descriptive way of speaking. Thanks for sharing!

My wild garter loves kisses. He’ll kiss you back and rub against your face. He sometimes thinks he’s a python and wrap himself around my neck even though he barely fits around me since he’s small like all male garter snakes. He loves curling up in my shirt sleeve when I have long sleeves on and he loves curling up inside my shirt, his head poking out of my sleeve when I’m wearing shirt sleeves. I know they say not to take snake out of the wild, because they hide and are nippy and don’t eat, but he was an adult when I got him, and he ate right away. He’s super interactive and loves me. Such a sweetheart. Great vid by the way. By birthday is in a week and I’m getting a ball python. Thanks a lot 🐍 🐍 😊
@rachelfajardo96405 жыл бұрын
I would personally replace the log with another hide so that he can have a hide on the warm side as well as the cool side. Generally, ball pythons do not bask. I also would have taken out the tube, since the enclosure got REALLY crowded with it in. The snake doesn’t need artificial light so I’m hoping That light just produces heat and no visible light to the snake. Also, having the light above his “basking spot” can cause burns if he decides to sit there.
@carissagrace3825 жыл бұрын
Is the light necessary at all? If I were to use a heat pad and regulate it, would I need a lamp as well? Thanks :)
@rachelfajardo96405 жыл бұрын
Carissa Grace you can use a heat pad and a CHE (ceramic heat emitter, which needs to be connected to a thermostat or dimmer) or you can just use the heat pad. The CHE helps keep the ambient temperature up. However, you should not use any lights. A CHE doesn’t produce any light that is visible to the snake which is ideal, they should not be exposed to unnatural light because they can get stressed out. So..in conclusion heat mat is a must, heat emitter is optional, lights are a no go.

I always get told that snakes enclosures have to be longer than their body & the snake is probably twice the size of the tub .. but i see this a lot too so I’m so confused to what to do with my snake ..
@Courier-xl1gt5 жыл бұрын
If your snake is able to stretch out & cover 2 sides of the enclosure it should be upgraded to a bigger one. This is far too small & a bit too crowded for the snake. You'll want to give them floor space, especially snakes that are ground dwellers most of the time.
@elenacarvell33465 жыл бұрын
There is a wide range of opinions on the proper size for ball python enclosures. From my experience, younger snakes tend to do well in small enclosures until they get a little more brave and confident, haha. Also it really depends on the nature of your snake. Some will feel very scared in a large enclosure. However, the biggest problem I see with people who use larger enclosures is that they fail to provide adequate cover/clutter for the snake to feel safe. I actually upgraded this snake (Pinto) into a PVC tank recently, which is about 40 gallons. I'll do a video on that very soon and also show my other 40 gallon tanks to give a better idea of how I set those up.

@elenacarvell33465 жыл бұрын
The probe I use controls the heat lamp and shuts it on or off based on the surface temp. I put it on top of the substrate, not directly under where the heat lamp is but a little off to the side. I use a temp gun to monitor how hot the heating pad is getting. I always have heat pads right under a hide. I thought heat mats got too hot for plastic tubs and could melt/disform the plastic, can anyone clarify?
@blaketurner80845 жыл бұрын
Nccp9 Most tubs have a really high melting point and the heat matt only makes it about 85 degrees so it’s not hot enough to melt or disform it
@elenacarvell33465 жыл бұрын
If the heat mats aren't regulated then they definitely can melt the plastic. I use a lamp dimmer to turn the temp down on the heat mats and check the temps with an infrared temp gun to make sure they aren't getting too hot. Some heat mats you can buy will actually come with a temp gauge and I've been looking into getting some of those soon! But in general, most plastic tubs are made with plastic that is is heat resistant up to 212 degrees fahrenheit, so it won't melt or burn unless you let things get ridiculously hot. But, since the heat mats are usually placed on the bottom of the tub, the heat can get trapped under there and temps can shoot up, which is why its super important to have something regulating the temp. Hopefully this helps!

How much does a ball python cost
@cierranicole6525 жыл бұрын
The United Snipers it can range anywhere from around 60 to 1,000 depending on what kind of ball python you get. Underground reptiles has some for a little under 60. But it just really depends on the kind you want.
@elenacarvell33465 жыл бұрын
To add to your answer I will say that you can sometimes find normals for less than 50, but you always want to make sure you buy from a reputable breeder. Some of the more rare morphs can cost well over 1000. I've seen some rare morphs go for 8-10k. Single gene morphs are typically in the lower hundreds.
@thebutlers20055 жыл бұрын
Great video! I really would advise getting a bigger water bowl though, especially if your Ball python ever has trouble shedding, that will help. You may also want to consider switching to aspen fibers, I know this is wildly controversial in the reptile community but hear me out. Ball pythons are native to Africa, and where they live, while it is humid air, it’s not humid or wet ground. Not to say that they should be in a desert type environment, because they shouldn’t. They should be kept in a semi-tropical environment. So that means humidity should be 50-60% but the ground shouldn’t be wet. That way by using aspen fibers it’s not going to give your Ball Python scale rot issues. If you do choose to use aspen fibers I highly, highly recommend using a humidity box. I recommend watching the video from Emily, by Snake Discovery on how to use & make humidity boxes! Really good video though! I like the tall tubs also, great idea!

Wouldn't recommend putting tape inside the enclosure. Worst case scenario, snake knocks the plant over anyway and gets tape stuck on themselves. Not fun for anybody.
@elenacarvell33464 жыл бұрын
Definitely a valid concern. I don’t use it for my snakes that are heavy enough to really knock stuff over so I haven’t had a problem yet. Using a thick amount of substrate also helps since in the case they do knock it over, the substrate sticks to the tape right away so there is a bit of a barrier. Also the tape I have been using costs like $20 a roll it’s quite effective lol. I will try to find a safer solution though, lmk if you ave any ideas!
