My review video of EWI5000 got so many detailed questions about setting up and picking up the instrument as beginner, I decided to start tutorial series on getting started with playing this fun instrument!
This first tutorial is all about the basic settings. They are important before you start playing as they can make your playing so much easier when configured right.

Thanks for Awesome video it is very useful tutorial. Do you know if growl is possible on EWI5000 I noticed that people did perform growl on older 3000 and 4000s EWIs but I never saw on 5000 and I don't even understand what they are doing. Also I tried all fingerings for a bit and EWI default seems easiest to me, I never played any wind instrument before. I would even say that default fingering is very logical and intuitive. Can't wait to see next parts.

Okay so I looked into it a bit! The growl is apparently done quite similar to how it would work in sax (I'm flutist so this is new to me too!). I dug up a couple growl sax tutorials and tried to test and I got somewhat similar sound out with the growling. So there's no switch for it, you just would have to learn it similar to sax players. Hope this was informative enough :D I'll have to cover these a bit more advanced topics a bit, too, later in the series. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask, I'll try to answer to my best knowledge or find out about it if I don't know yet ^_^

Hey, super late to the party but just got my EWI. I noticed there is also a transpose setting on the instrument itself. I am a clarinet player and I'm super tempted to set it to the key of G so that C is in the middle of instrument (3 fingers down). I am especially finding it very odd with where an octave change has to happen, especially with how new and awkward the 'sliding' is to me. Maybe more of an opinion question, but I'm wondering if that's a bad habit and I should bite the bullet and get used to the default way it's laid out. Do you ever use the transpose setting yourself? Also, thank you so much for making these videos, there is not much online content for the EWI!

I haven't used the transpose setting myself at all! The octave roller is a bit awkward but it gets easier. I did a lot of simple songs at the beginning to just get used to the feel of it.

Can you not do vibrato using breathing? It's how I do it with recorders and clarinet.. bditing seems unintuitive to me.

I have a problem with record music on EWI5000. When im turn on my AWI on Reaper for example, then EWI 5000 Editor.dll VST Plugin showing some strange windows with to Update your Service Pack 1 on your Windows(I have no windows XP so it's sounds like its not a point.) Why it's not working? Reaper see my EWI and is able to record someting, but without this plugin it's only piano sounds. You know how to fix it?
