Setup Dual WAN Internet Backup / Failover on TP-Link Omada Router

I did this just recently in a test setup and curiously it killed my HULU connection. I called HULU's tech support and they said it had to do with password sharing crackdowns. They could not understand I would at times have a second IP when the connections would change. Very frustrating, but the failover between WAN's worked as expected every time I tested it. I setup a Cisco SMB box years ago, I don't remember the model but it allowed you to bond 2 connections together plus fail over. They had DSL and a WISP and it handled the connections pretty well until another ISP became available up there.

Omada has very few configuration fine tuning options as compared to my old ER-X-SFP. i could set how many failed pings to detect network down and how many successful pings to detect its back up. i cant set up similar in omada, plus i noticed , instead of pulling WAN cable out if you just pull out fiber from modem, it takes omada forever to check and reroute traffic to secondary on top of that it even shows WAN as online. they need more work in omada line of line sotfware. i am switching back again from 7212PC to edgerouter. very informative video. appreciate your work. If the router is managed by Omada it will use the configured DNS servers to detect if a WAN is online. However, in standalone one can configure any destination to ping in "Online Detection". Kind of annoying that Omada is less configurable than the actual router.

Refresh screen is a setting on the controller (under Controller Settings). I think it defaults to 2 minutes but you could set it for 15 seconds, 1min, 2min, 5min or never refresh.

I got an Omada router for Christmas. It died within the first hour of owning it because I tried to do a firmware update.

Hello, the ideal would be to try instead of disconnecting the cable, removing the fiber from the modem, to see what reaction the router has and if it notices the ISP cut-off. thank you very much for your videos

Any reason why you didn't use wan port 4 and 5? i purchased 2 TP-Link TL-sm5310-T off amazon so i can try sfp+ and sfp ports instead. could this be why my 2nd isp could not find the mac address on router? thanks

Great video as always SPX. I wonder if this would work for dual routers for HA. If one router fails , it can failover to second router. I have two OPNSense routers, but only single WAN. So trying to figure if i can do same using this procedure.

That would be cool as hell but if it were me I’d just keep a cold spare and swap them. I don’t think it’s currently possible to have HA with Omada. I’d have to research

Omada needs full feature parity with standalone mode, full stop. Shocked that they didn't build this out of the gate. Guess I'll be sticking with Unifi for now.

When i connect two wans on my er605 and oc300 and make a test speed it goes on the backup link and do know why. I have to unplugged from wan the cable to go on primary. And another problem with vlans it gives me 169. Ip...i have an eap610 and on wlans i put vlan id..it is not plugged in a management switch.

I’ve been doing failover with ATT and Spectum for a while on the ER-605 and works great when Ethernet is unplugged like you did but if the provider themselves are having issues getting to internet but their services are up, it’s random if it works or not. I’ve tried using ISP DNS and external DNS also hoping it would check past the internet provider but again random. Same experience with Omada software or native device software. Any other ideas to try?

Maybe but you should really try and answer that for yourself. That questions is insanely loaded and there are many things to consider. Me just saying yes or no is not sufficient and discussing such things via KZbin chat is not a good option as many comments get lost or go unseen.
