So agree no animal should ever be caged, abused or killed. There seems to be an ever growing cruelty in the world not just to animals to people as well compassion, kindness and empathy are not seen as much now, but then you see this wonderful work and realise that it isn't all bad after all. Good things just aren't reported anymore in the media, as it wouldn't be considered scary enough all media is now geared to building fear and dividing people. Over the years, that's changed and there has been a shift in taking away reproductive rights, choices from women, the closing and loss of funding for Planned parenthood clinics. These elephants have probably been sold to different owners throughout their lives and each new owner asserts their dominance in horrible ways as soon as they take possession. They had no way of knowing who their new 'owner' would be. Most have probably been resigned to their fate. Search the story of Raju, the elephant who was sold over 20 times to successively cruel men. The images of the elephants playing and relaxing in the water made me cry. I could actually see the joy in the movements of the elephants, no longer made to do labor, able to move about freely. The only job for an elephant is to be an elephant and make baby elephants. That's it. No carrying, lifting, begging in the streets, taking humans for a ride on it's back. Simply being. They are free to roam these large sanctuaries to have the only freedom they have ever known. No chains, medical care and food. They are where they will live best.

You can just see their relief especially from the older ones. You can see it in their eyes... and it’s so wonderful to be able to have enough space for them and even more importantly that you have more than one... elephants actually NEED other elephants.
