Seven Seal Rescues and a Bite!

For 2023, we expect many intense rescue runs like this one. There are so many seals with entanglement - we often wonder how many more we are missing. There is no escape for our seals. Plastic has infiltrated every part of their natural habitat. They have nowhere else to go. We are proud of our work and will continue for as long as we can, even if we save one animal at a time. Hopefully, 2023 will be another year with nearly 700 disentanglements in Namibia alone. Hopefully, we will find many more like-minded people who care about animals and the environment and are willing to change. 🦭

It's been awhile since we've seen so many rescues in one run, but with a group of seals that large, it's not surprising. Good spotters and swift runners make all the difference. Good work, everyone!🙏

The seals already know about Tony’s back rubs (the 2 that tried to sneak into his net) Just wait until the word gets out that Wally gives “airplane rides” in the net and a kiss goodbye for luck. The last little guy even gave him a “kiss” back. Careful Wally!😅

Running blind into the herd to scan for entanglements was a good idea and worked a treat. Thank goodness you did too. #7, poor baby. #2, pulled a calm before the storm trick and very nearly took Wally's bits with him. Geez, that was close! You know how bad that was with Wally swearing! Such an intense 11+ minutes and 7 seals for the New Year 2023. Always amazes me how you spot and catch these seals. When that awful hill net was cut you could see that pup’s chest expand…no wonder he was feisty…the pain he must have had. Love the ‘kiss blow’ from Wally, and so sorry about the nip he gave you. A new year, and hopefully less plastic rubbish discarded in our oceans to entrap our marine animals. 🤞🏻 Great teamwork OCN, thank you! 🦭🌊🌍♻️❤️
