The Great Escape is the pinnacle of Seventh Wonder. Tommy's best range in display. Not enough could be said about the backup vocals too. A masterwork of instrumentation by everyone. And a human story to boot. It is a 30min song. But if Elizabeth can pull it off, it will be "The Greatest Musical Journey".

Asking you to react to their song “The Great Escape” is prooooobably a little much to ask, but I *do* suggest you at least listen to it on your own time! It’s one of the best showcases of Tommy’s voice *and* of the entire band’s talent, it’s just… quite long.

Seventh Wonder is one of my favorite progressive metal band (in the melodic and emotional style). Tommy has a lot more free field to express himself than in Kamelot, and his talent is really amazing (note that he is self-taught). The album Tiara is a concept imagined by the band, which is the continuation of their longest song, The Great Escape (30 mn!), adaptation on the previous album of a poem named Aniara, by the Swedish author Harry Martinson, Nobel Prize for Literature. The technique of the bassist and the guitarist, allied to the terribly evocative voice of Tommy, are to die for ! Great choice for the voice, but the other musicians do their best in the electric way.
@anttisaamanen23983 жыл бұрын
Tiara is something of a thematic sequel to Great Escape/Aniara, I think. Probably also inspired by Greta Thunberg, I'd imagine. And Aniara is referenced in the lyrics to (iirc) Tiara's Song (Farewell pt. 1).

I wouldn't classify this song as metal, in fact, I previously commented on this song by simply saying "lots of soul"; however, if you listen to Black Sabbath's 7th Star album with Glenn Hughes on vocals, the album is replete with r and b runs. Listen to "No Stranger to Love" and "In Memory" for just a few examples. Time permitting, let me know what you think.

Re the lyrics, this album is a sequel to one epic song they wrote previously, The Great Escape. It was in turn based on a sci-fi epic poem Aniara by Harry Martinson (which got him a Nobel prize). So it's ultimately a nerdy piece of art.

Your enthusiasm for Tommy's singing is infectious. It's very nice to hear someone describe what he's doing in both technical and lay terms. I sing, but I am not learned. I first heard Tommy on "Waiting in the Wings," and immediately took notice. When he joined Kamelot, I was ecstatic, although the actuality seemed more like he tried to be more Roy Khan-like in Kamelot instead of being Tommy (I have no idea if that's his bag, or Thom Youngblood's, or what. Not judging, just observing). Tommy absolutely kills in the songs, "Pieces," from "Waiting.." and "Tears for a Father," from "Mercy Falls." If I wasn't already an old man with too little time & sleep, I'd love to pick Tommy's brain on training, diet & maintenance, but as I will likely never be making a living singing, it's really hard to consider committing the resources. UGH! St00pid adulthood! 8'P Cheers!

I was lucky enough to attend PPUSA in 2019 and saw Seventh Wonder live. It was amazing. I hope you do have the chance to see them soon - unfortunately Tommy’s main focus is Kamelot so SW doesn’t tour that often. You’ll probably have a much better chance seeing him with Kamelot. Seventh Wonder is the far superior band but there’s no denying Kamelot is far more well known.

@@Hikdin the show on the DVD was from 2016 I believe. I WISH I could have been at that show to hear Mercy Falls in its entirety. The show I attended was their second appearance at PPUSA in 2019. They did a meet and greet so I got to meet the band and have them sign a bunch of stuff. It was a once in a lifetime experience for me, only topped by Wacken Open Air in 2016!

@@danclarke29 The show is from September 2014. I saw them a week before that in Sweden and that's still the best concert I have been to. I couldn't stop smiling the day after.

I just discovered your channel and I'm addicted! Thank you so much for the awesome content. Have you ever listened to Andre Matos? He was the singer of Angra and Shaman. Also part of Avantasia and a few other projects. He has a very unique voice, insane technique and one of the best writers the Power Metal genre has ever had. He's was also a great pianist and maestro. When he passed away in 2019 the metal fans in Brazil were in shock. I'd love to have you reacting to Nothing to Say, Carry On or Angels Cry from Angra. From Shaman, Time Will Come or Fairy Tale (one of the most beautiful metal ballads). Cheers from a Brazilian in Seattle.

If you want to hear and review more Tommy Karevik, I’d recommend the live version of Revolution by Kamelot, featuring Alissa White-Gluz. It is one of the heaviest songs from Kamelot, and both Tommy and Alissa are amazing in the live version (which does not have the perfect video quality but is still good). I think it is one of the very few live performances where Tommy really shows the power of his voice.

Great video, as usual! My only complain about this version is that the best part of the song (for me) is missing. When he sings: "When our vision was blurred, and our hearts lead astray She opened our eyes for us We must gather the greatest of minds we can find There must be a way to survive"
