Love this performance and reaction. I'm a fan of both artists. But every time I see the name "Sarah Brightman" my first memory is of her as a young disco singer (Sarah Brightman and Hot Gossip) who had a minor hit with "I lost my heart to a starship trooper". VERY different to the Sarah Brightman most people know and love.

When her husband wrote the music with her vocals in mind, no wonder why she can deliver a great performance. That said, yes she is great. I've also seen Andrea live once, something I'll NEVER forget. I'm a fan for life. Not their best performance but maybe because later in the concert.

Her husband had absolutely no hand in this song whatsoever. This song was written by Francesco Sartori (music) and Lucio Quarantotto (lyrics) and was originally called "Con te partirò" and is initially a strictly Italian song. Some of the lyrics were translated to English when Sarah teamed up to sing it with him AFTER it's initial release on HIS album.

@stevenmiller1849 ай бұрын
Brightman's history is musical theater. She uses vocal tricks to portray different characters and their emotions. It gets in the way of pure voice. This ain't Bel Canto. A singer friend who trained under Lotte Lehman would call her voice "Hooty" It is a beautiful voice for the right music. Where it really works is when she takes popular music and adds some juice to it. She sang "My Heart will go on" from "Titanic" (pretentiously in Italian).. but you can hear her transition from "Pop" voice, to "Theater" voice to "Opera" voice in the three verses. It's a neat trick.

THANK YOU so much for this. I've been waiting years to get a clear explanation for why all my opera friends say Bocelli is a fraud, but everyone else loves him. Is it possible that the "opera voice" professional academies train into singers is barking up the wrong tree, going for resonance and vibrato that mostly appeals to other opera singers but not to ordinary humans?
@TheSeeking2know7 ай бұрын
I would assume he's not an operatic singer so he's not using operatic technique. Some of his notes were a few cents flat at the beginning to be hearing. His later recording I heard sounded much stronger.

I like the all-Italian version better. Not even a translation (in Italian, it's Con Te Partiro, I will leave with you, not Time to Say Goodbye, which makes you think it's a breakup song). But Andrea's last note is a killer!! Saw him at the very beginning of his career when he was introduced to the audience at a Celine Dion concert. Blew us away! For another fun duet with Andrea, check him out with Katherine McPhee doing "Somos Novios" ("We're boyfriend/girlfriend" in Spanish; the English version is "It's Impossible").

wow this is crazy to say Andrea needs vocal coaching, Julliard has a lot to answer for. American opera has an air of snobbery about it & has a lot of catching up to do... Pavarotti said on first hearing Andrea.. "There was no finer voice" You do know this man has played at Las Scala, He even has his own Theatre Teatro del Silenzio. - The Teatro del Silenzio is an open-air venue surrounded by beautiful Tuscan hillside panoramas. It seats around 12,000 people. Its name (the 'Theatre of Silence') comes from the fact that for the rest of the year it stands empty, the only person to perform there is Bocelli.

Maybe she sing lower/warmer sound to let understand the voice, by Opera you know what they singing but you don’t understand what they singing, Opera is singing with voice, not with words, more than the half of the Opera lovers listen to the voices because they don’t hear what they sing, that’s probably why the most people don’t listen to Opera, more people listen to Operette or Musicals because they understand what the message is.
