I was blown away to read the comments after watching the video and then watched the video of her journey dealing with cancer. Thank you to her family for continuing to share her videos and her beautiful smile. God bless

This tutorial will work better with the 51 cm x 51 cm pillow form you currently have. I use inches so, I'm not sure what your seam allowance is. But 51 cm is almost exactly 20 inches. You basically need to add in your seam allowance all the way around and the back needs to have 6-8 inches of overlap - its forgiving. Read the description box for more details! Thanks for watching and stopping by!

+Melanie Ham You said the fabric should be cut 1" larger than the pillow form. For the back of the pillow how big should it be cut? If I fold down the edges for the envelope opening won't it need to be larger than the front piece?

i think both back and front should be the same. their edges should even up. the only thing to keep in mind is the envelope (the two pieces, obviously not the same size of front) should overlap, and you fold these openings, leaving the edges of the pillow alone. that's why she pinned it all around it. you just worry about having enough to fold AND overlap one another.

Melanie, thank you for the easy instructions on the envelope pillow. I found the measurements extremely helpful. I haven't made anything from scratch in about 10 years so even though I was an experienced seamstress, my skills are very rusty. Making this simple project saved me money because I had pillow forms sitting in the closet for some ten years and I finally used them and then I covered some pillows for a change of decor. I have made 5 pillows this afternoon. Thanks also for allowing me to experience the joys of sewing that I haven't had in a very long time. Janet Cswercko, FL.

For all of you asking back piece measurements: if you click on "more", then click on her blog, the instructions for figuring out your back pieces are there. Basically is your front piece is 16X16, your back pieces will be 16X12 (each). You take the 16", add 8 then divide answer by 2 to get measurement of each back piece. Hope that helps.

Hi Lauren, For a 27 x 27 you need (1) 28 x 28 (1) 28 x 19 (1) 28 x 17 Those back measurements can be adjusted a bit, but you need to have at least 6 inches of overlap and leave enough for the small seam.

Melanie, thank you so so much for posting this great video! I came across it about a year ago and I currently have covered 16 pillows in my own house (beds, sofa, lawn furniture) and have given some away also. Something that I do is shop thrift stores to find gently used throw pillows to cover. I go over them really good before I purchase them looking for any signs of insects and I smell of them too. I have found several really good ones for as low as $1,00 each. You are amazing!

Hi Melanie. Thank you for your tutorial. I have one question on the corners that I don't understand. You cut all 4 corners. I don't understand how, after you turned it right side out, you had corners. Also, did you have to sew the corners again? Sorry if it's a dumb question, but I'm really new at the whole sewing thing. Thank you.

she trimmed a triangular piece of fabric off the corners, because when you turn the corners out it makes the corners crisp and point like. If you left the additional fabric on, it would look bulky instead of crisp.
@rebeccajacklin3976
@rebeccajacklin3976 7 жыл бұрын
When you trim the corners, you are trimming the excess fabric but not into the stitch. It's important you don't trim the stitching. It would have been good to see a close up of that. I'm sure other videos will show that. But really the best way is to try it yourself! Watch the video closely a few times, then try it exactly like she did. It works great!

My Mom always covered her ironing board cover by pinning a sheet over the old one. Her ironing board ended up having 15 layers of fabric after years and years of doing this. I miss her!
