Kim, each one of us, as Christians, are bound to express, in our own way, what is in our hearts. Your respectful expression was eloquent and honest. What we must not do, is to let these conversations stop over time. It must be talked about until change begins to happen and then the discussions must continue among all people of this country or, for that matter, among all people of the Earth. Thank you for sharing what is in your heart. Now, about this pants series. Having been sewing for more years than I care to admit, I have sewn my share of pants both simple pull-on and tailored styles. You would not believe the crazy way I would take each commercial pattern and try to make it fit my body. You'd be on the floor laughing! Watching someone take a pretty basic pattern such as our beloved Love Notions Duet Trousers and prepare it prior to cutting the fabric is priceless even for us seasoned seamstresses. In addition, your previous episode on measurements was so valuable. This is a step that is ESSENTIAL in getting the fit you want. You've done us all a great service. here, as always! Sending blessings. 💗

Thank you for speaking out in support of our black brothers and sisters. The scriptures you have shared are very apropos to the situation. Your words are thoughtful and considered. May we one day fulfill the dream to become land of the free and the home of the brave, and to truly believe in practice that we are all created equal. And thank you also for the pants tutorial. I am slowly making my way through the series in hopes of my unicorn dream, pants that fit.

I am making the Duet trousers along with you. I have made elastic waisted trousers before but this is the first more tailored version. I have lost 18kg in weight and my biggest issue is believing the measurements on the pattern...that I will fit in to them. I always tend to make things too big and I'm really trying to make these as per design and to fit me well. Thank-you for this. Tomorrow is my muslin day!

I have done the same thing. In fact, just recently I was testing a new pattern for Love Notions and she assigned me a size that I thought would be too small. She did that based on my measurements. As it turns out, it was a perfect fit. By the way, that pattern comes out Monday- it is awesome!

Hi! Me again. Uh oh - I'm not sure the pants pattern I was working on is contender for this series. Simplicity 8390 only has has one piece. I think I need more room for my caboose. Definitely need to shorten it too, but there are no shorten lines. And 8390 doesn't have a marking for the knee either. 😟💦

Hi, I am sewing along with you making my first pair of tailored trousers. When you are measuring, marking and enlarging the pattern pieces you are just out of camera reach to see the pattern marking you are using and where you are widening the knee. I think I've got the right place but am guessing. Thank you so much for the video it helps enormously and you are so much better to follow than the piece of paper.

I just found your channel and I love it. In this video, you have marked where you knee, calf, and hip etc are. Before we can mark these things, shouldn’t we make the depth adjustment first because it would effect where our hip. Knee and calf fall. I’m super high and the back and very low and the front based on the big 4 patterns. If there is a video showing how to make the depth adjustment for front and back, would you please let me know. Thanks!

I would like to provide some constructive criticism though, and please don't take it negatively, I'm only trying to help your channel. Some of the pattern work you were doing was off-camera and it was a little hard to hear some of the instructions that you were saying. Yes, Kristi I noticed that when I was editing. I probably should have gone back and redone it. I will be sure to double check the camera more often. Somehow my microphone also got buried in the paper too. The microphone is new, so I need to pay more attention. We learn; we grow. I had already filmed the entire intro/outro several times- once for lipstick on my teeth, and once bc the phone would not stop ringing. It wasn’t my best effort. I should have waited and done today, but so many people were waiting on me. Not excuses though.

Dorothy’s Daughter goodness, no excuses are needed. I don’t typically critique as I feel it’s not for me to do. But since you were proud of your subscribers (I’m one of them) and want your channel to grow and are asking for comments I thought I’d give my two cents. I did learn things and that’s the point, correct? Hugs and blessings to you.

I’m getting ready to tackle my first pants pattern. Thanks so much for providing these excellent tutorials. Made my muslin as a 14 discovered that the front was fine but the back had about 2.5 extra fabric at the waist. Can I leave the front a 14 and cut the back down to a 12. As I pinned the muslin adjustments that was the way it seemed to come out. Is that possible ? would it be better to cut it out as a 12 and adjust it in the front?

Thank you for a wonderfully informative video. I have a few questions. 1. Is hip line always at the notch in most patterns? 2. Is it important to account for seam allowance when measuring all the areas? 3. I used the flexible ruler to measure the shape of my crotch moving upwards. Crotch curve. Can this be transferred to the pattern? Thanks again. I appreciate you!
@dorothysdaughtersews
@dorothysdaughtersews 4 жыл бұрын
To answer your questions:- 1. I do not necessarily think that is true of all pattern companies. I have pattern tested for lLove Notions, and it is always true of theirs. I believe some companies do a standard 7 or 9” below the waistline. 2. Yes, it is very important not to forget the seam allowance or you might end up with a garment that is too tight. For example, in this pattern 5/8” seam allowance would make a 2.5” difference in fit. 3. At this point, I would trace the outline of your crotch curve on a piece of paper. Transferring it on to the pattern could have mixed results. We will use the shape of it to make adjustments to your muslin. I appreciate you as well!
