we must renationalize all our water utilities and fine all these private companies millions.

Seriously good film, on a vital story everyone should be talking about. Matt Staniek is a brilliant presenter. Authoritative; a natural on camera. Are you guys thinking of making this into a feature length documentary? With Matt's passion and professional expertise as a zoologist, I can see "Save Windermere" being screened at international film festivals. Just the kind of public profile that might embarras the water company to do the right thing, and clean up their act. And force the Environment Agency to actually do their job. Protecting the environment, to stop the sewage pollution killing fish and other creatures (not to mention human health) who come into contact with it. Mel Beamish is a totally credible witness. I've signed the petition, and look forward to hearing more updates. All the best to you and your team 😎

Amazing work Matt, shocking how water companies have been able to get away with this for so long! Traction is building, keep it up

Great video, my only concern is problems like this don’t vanish, they just move it elsewhere. Something serious needs to happen here, to protect all our water supplies for us and wildlife.

You are doing great work. It’s unfortunate that virtually all our regulators are useless, or worse than useless either in the pocket of the sector they regulate or have no clue how to regulate to protect the public. Doubly unfortunate is that the politicians largely don’t seem to care.

Hi Matt! Thank you for your, and your team's amazing work! Would you be able to team-up with the local business owners and put the UU and EPA on notice, that the water pollution is negatively affecting environment and their business (less tourists) which then you will be charging them £££££££££££ for it! Once they will fill immediate threat to their pockets than they will not do much - they just protect their profits! :/ They should be made accountable for their actions! The director/manager of the local treatment plant as well as his bosses at the HQ! Good Luck! Irek

8:20 supplying information about sewage discharge into Windermere "wasn't in the public interest"..This clearly shows the opinion of the water authorities. They are not the slightest bit concerned about the danger to health and wildlife from the act of knowingly discharging sewage into OUR waterways.

This makes me so angry and sad at the same time. Keep up the good work and get this stopped. Not just moved to a new area profits should come when things are good and problems are sorted not ignored for another generation. There needs to be some great minds on this zooming out and looking at the whole picture not just an isolated incident or area.

When i think of the pandemic and all the hygiene and anti bacterial advice that was dished out by the Government, and then i see a situation like this where potential lethal germs are being dumped at random, all it takes is for some poor bird to eat something that could infect all other species including ourselves, at what point does this stop? when there is mass panic and death with a new outbreak of a lethal disease. THIS OUR LAND AND WE NEED TO STAND TOGETHER BEFORE IT IS TO LATE!

Is it feasible to completely stop the discharge into the lake, and process the sewage another way, or will there always have to be some flow into Windermere?

Self-Regulation, always a winner when you put profit before consequence. The stupidity and lack of moral compass summarised beautifully in the comment “they think it will be all right in the END”. A bit like the whole country to be fair.

Yes, and do you know who the shareholders are? Apart from investors for pension funds, its the upper management.

Who to blame? Try the last few Governments! The privatisation (of monopolies.) Plus put a few of the highly paid Board members in Gaol. Even if they are foreigners.

Great Film and Expose. Such a vital campaign to clean up Windermere catchment area. The Environment Agency used to have much more autonomy and money but has had its funding cut year on year. Now largely a toothless lapdog of government and industry. The EA needs more autonomy and funding from government in order to properly regulate industry and govnt interests. In West Cumbria there is an issue that may prove far more damaging in the long term than sewage. Acid mine run off into Whitehaven Harbour and the Irish Sea/Solway Firth. This film was made for free (I know - it shows! ) but hoping it gives a small flavour of what is happening in what was once the Western Lake District's Jewel in the Crown - Whitehaven Harbour - now tarnished with toxic run off with no end in sight. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWq0ipKQnr92mdE

Boycotting united utilities refusing to pay them would hit them where it hurts. But how many people will be willing to refuse to pay their water charges for the foreseeable? 🤔
