I do find your videos enlightening. I have the books, but your demonstration of the techniques makes it all seem so ‘do-able’. So appreciated. 👍 questions...... 😉 When you add your seam allowance, do you stick your pattern pieces to another piece of paper then draw? (Stupid question, I know). What do you use for your pattern ‘masters’? It looks like some sort of card. Thankyou 😁

Hi! I’ve been searching for armhole princess seam with shoulder darts and they only show the front bodice 😅 i’m glad i found yours which also shows the back bodice 😊 but i’d like to know if this is really the standard? Because the front and back will have different princess seam positions so i was wondering if i can put princess seam on the armhole at the back and eliminating the shoulder darts as well 🙂

Hi Susanne. Thank you for yet another wonderful and informative video. Thank you. The book you recommend sounds great and well worth buying. I wonder if you also know of a book showing how to make the basic bodice block, etc. from scratch. Many thanks.
@SewCustom6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Carole Porteous 💕👍💕 The book I show in the video does include instructions for drafting the bodice block but I haven't used it for that reason, I used Diane Deziels tutorials to draft mine which I can highly recommend👍👍👍 if its a book you're after this one is very basic.... More/Dress Pattern Designing are two which I am learning a lot from and they are much more comprehensive and also include instructions for the bodice block. I have only used More Dress Pattern Designing for the coat block which I used as the basis of my pink coat 👍. I found the instructions were quite straightforward even though I was very intimated by the content initially😍

Hi could you explain us how to draft a short sleeve and also how to cut and sew basic bodice on fabric.

Another wonderful and informative tutorial! You are so clear and easy to understand in your instruction. Thank you! Question? Does the book you recommend explain how to draft the pattern for one's unique proportions? Tall, petite, long-waisted, big bust, small bust, etc.? One of my main hurdles (and trials) is that store bought patterns, never (and I mean NEVER ever) fit me correctly. I think that's why I gravitate so much to alterations of ready made clothing and my sewing falls to the way side. Thanks Suzanne! Have a smashing weekend! Big Hugs
@SewCustom6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Eva 💕👍💕I know what you mean about fitting commercial patterns😫 I drafted my block using a tutorial from Diane Deziel and the measurements they are based on are my body measurements, bust, back, shoulder, waist.... The only "standards" that are applied are in the calculations which are also based on my measurements. This has worked really well for me but I think one would describe my shape as somewhat average 🤔 The book I mentioned, I have mainly used for pattern making with the starting point being Dianes block. I would definitely recommend having a go at drafting the block , if you're anything like me you'll find sewing much more enjoyable with a lot less alterations (my least favorite bit) 😍 Have a fab weekend Eva💕💕💕

Love your videos. Question: When you made your bodice block with the help of the referenced book, did you include in it, the 1cm seam allowance? I ask because when you added it on your pattern, you did so off camera and had already cut out your paper pattern pieces.

WOW! I actually understood what you did there Suzanne! Usually, I get lost on pattern drafting tutorials! I have that book, but have been frightened to try it (I'm scared of wasting fabric), but I might just give it a try now! One question, did you use that book to draft the original bodice block? 👍 TFS xx

Excellent, as ever! Thank you for sharing. A quick question... where did you get your weights/washers from? I must be looking at the wrong thing as I can only find small “tap “ sized things. Thanks again!

Thanks so much Ruth E 💕👍💕 I bought mine in B&Q, they were mixed in with the biggest selection of washers I've ever seen 😲 so I did have to hunt a bit to find them 😉

Sew Custom Ah, that makes sense... I took a look today, but ended up having to ask for help. Man: what exactly is it you are doing? Me: (now turning a shade of pink) erm, I need them to hold my sewing patterns down. Man: oh, my wife uses these, but we haven’t any of the bigger ones left, try screwfix. Me: left flabbergasted. But great customer support !!!

Beginning sewer here...when you say you add 1cm seam allowance to your basic block, from what I can see, your block is your “neat” pattern and the 1cm I extra on the outside of those lines. Is that correct?
@jacquelineclifford82856 жыл бұрын
I’m slightly puzzled. Once you’ve altered the pattern and created 2 pattern pieces, you then added seam allowances. Does this make the garment smaller or are you just using the excess taken up by the darts you’ve removed? I assume so but your darts didn’t meet at the back. It was a very clear video and I understood it, I think, but . . .
@SewCustom6 жыл бұрын
Hi Jacqueline, the seam allowance is added to the outside so no width is taken out of the pattern pieces themselves👍. The shaping that the darts would have given is now provided in the seams. I hope this clarifies 🤞I hope to upload a video of "the making of" this pattern (if I can manage to work with the stripes without getting a sore head😧) which may be helpful🍀
