I've been crocheting off and on (mostly, off) for about 10 years. I don't like to admit it, but I could never properly or accurately count my rows. Hopefully I can apply what I learned in your video. Sometimes it's good to go over what some people thinks as "everyone knows that." Thank you.

I totally understand. This is something I struggled with as well as counting stitches. I would get so frustrated when I couldn’t achieve the results I wanted and usually it came down to one of those 2 things. That was my motivation for this video because I couldn’t find one that covered just this topic. Fundamentals such as these usually don’t get covered because it is assumed, as you said, “everyone knows that.” I really appreciate you taking your time to comment, and I hope that you can apply these things to your projects! Best, Abby

I actually used this today. (Good timing, eh!). I was making a matching sleeve for a sweater. I used this method to determine if both sleeves were the same size. Much easier than matching row by row by row. Again...thank you.

I discovered an easy way to keep row counts. My grandkids have these silicone bubble fidget poppers they come in different sizes. The have a bubble you pop and you pop all the bubbles then flip them over and pop them again. I just pop one for every row. 😉

I know exactly what gadgets you're talking about. That is a genius way to keep row counts! Thanks for sharing your tip!

Oh yeah, you're not alone in this one! Learning to identify the different rows seems to be something we all struggle with at the beginning. I'm so glad you found it helpful!

Thank you for this series! This has been somthing that's plagued me for years and made me put crochet down more than a few times. Looking forward to finally finishing a project now I can...count how many stitches and rows I've done 😅

Aww, I'm so sad to hear that was the reason for not crocheting! But I totally get it, I've been there. I admire your determination! Keep it up and you'll have a project finished in no time.

Is this count from a right hand crochet, and is the count the same for a lefty?
@SewHomey3 жыл бұрын
Yes, all of the swatches from this video were crocheted right handed, but you can count all your stitches the same as a lefty.

How do you count rows in sc blo? Please help can’t find any videos on it
@SewHomey2 жыл бұрын
You count sc blo the same way as in this video. Only difference is you see another line above the “pi” symbols. Or since the sc blo has distinct horizontal lines, count each one of those as a row. I know it’s harder to put into words, so if a video is more helpful, let me know and I can make one illustrating this.

Why is the first row counted as 2? Foundation row is supposed to count right?
@Goldenretriever-k8m11 ай бұрын
Same! I’m confused about that. I think she is doing it incorrectly tbh, she is just skipping row 1

Is the single crochet counting the same as blo single crochet rows ?
@SewHomey2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's very similar. I would actually say it's probably easier to count blo crochet rows. You can count the raised rows by 2 (because there is a row in between the raised rows).

Do you have an easy video on how to crochet and good tigh tarn and comfy crochet hook I have arthritis in my right hand it would help. Thanks I just subscribed
@SewHomey3 жыл бұрын
Hi! First off, thanks for watching and subscribing! As of right now, I have a few videos that show you how to crochet certain stitches. Also, I have a tutorial on how to crochet a hat and how to crochet a pumpkin (both full length and walk you through beginning to end). Suggestion for yarn, any bulky or super bulky (#5 or #6) yarns are great for beginners and if you have arthritis. I really like working with Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick (used in my pumpkin tutorial). I personally love to use the Clover Soft Touch crochet hooks. They have a flat handle and feel very comfortable, even when working with thin yarns. But you may want a handle with a bigger grip, and in that case I would recommend the Clover Amour crochet hooks. There are a lot more out there. These are just crochet hooks I have purchased and actually use.

There is this book called “I taught myself to crochet” by boye and I just started and it’s a good book in my opinion for beginners, it gets a bit tricky but with practice and watching some youtube vids you’ll get it

I’m confused about the beginning ‘chain row’ you say, it just doesn’t make sense to me! The first row is when you put stitches into the chain. You skip it and say it isn’t the first row?
