Sewing a 1920s Robe (Loungewear for Flappers!)

Calling all Flappers! Today, we're making some comfy loungewear based on a pattern from the 1920s! Although the pattern is vintage, this kimono-style robe is perfect for modern wear AND historical looks. (It's also great for gifts, since who doesn't need a cute, retro robe?!) We'll start by self-drafting and cutting out the simple shapes of the boxy design. I upped the comfy factor with some fun flannel in gingham and strawberry prints!! Then, we'll sew it all together, adding a modern touch or two. Don't forget a vintage outfit for the flapper photo shoot! ;) Join me for the sewing adventure and see if you get inspired to try some retro sewing projects of your own!

I have the Mary Brooks Pickens Women's Institute " Drafting and Pattern Design book" and 1920s fashion is easy to make and wear. I love Mrs. Depew and I have bought several of her patterns and books. If you get on her mailing list, she often has special sales.

To avoid that funky underarm seam I would sew it like I do a crochet robe. 1. Sew the shoulder seams. 2. Open it up flat one layer & attach the sleeves flat. 3. Then sew the side seams & underarm sleeve seams in one line of stitching.
