I want a second. the fact that sewing a corset is not difficult. I am not a super experienced sewing expert, by any means, but I just made my first corset and I'm working on corset number two. It is not hard. I don't know why I had it in my head that this would be difficult. I'm using one of the black snail patterns and it is super easy. If you haven't tried it, try it

As a plus sized person I love this designer didn't just make the pattern bigger, but knew what to alter, so it was comfortable for people with a belly, not just standing but sitting and moving.

Michelle's one comment about needing belly room to prevent the riding up problem when sitting was completely eye-opening. Having just made my first corset I could not figure out why that was happening so thank you so much Michelle and Noelle for letting us have a peek at that fitting session!

Very very helpful. I’ve been on the fence doing the custom pattern but seeing you sew it up and the custom fitting session sold me. Ive made atleast 4 other corsets and I just can’t get them right and comfortable enough to wear at my sit down job. I need it more for slight back support due to chronic back issues. Thanks for sharing your fitting session as well. Super impressed the first pattern fit so well.

This is really nice. I especially like when you sit down and say that the corset don’t ‘go up’ (you know what I mean) and Michelle says “ it’s because of the extra belly room “. Perfect. Now I know what’s wrong with my corsets. Thank you! ❤

Oh wow is that all!! That’s great! Now me and my brain are going to fight! I’ve gained a bunch of weight and want to get rid of it (or at least some) before a custom fitted anything. Then the other part of me will scream about being able to make it again better fast stronger!! Then I will remind myself that there’s a list and a plan…. Me myself and I argue a lot

I don't sew (would like to but I have my fingers in too many metaphorical pies already) but I have always loved the idea of corsets. My hyperfixation recently has been historical dress and so when I stumbled upon this video after seeing the exact pattern on etsy I was so happy! Couldn't stop smiling through the whole consultation section of this video as well - Michelle is so cool and sweet and I love her making this niche passion accessible! Thanks for putting this whole video together Noelle, I found it fascinating and hope one day I can use it to help inform my sewing adventures. As someone who isn't "regular" sized, seeing creators who are size inclusive is so, so affirming.

This felt really good to watch. Not only is that corset really cool and pretty (and I like the colour!) and I learned stuff while watching, I also feel really grateful for you talking positive about giving your belly room in a corset. I needed to hear that. Today I'm trying to take it slow as I am having an low-energy week. Really hard to not overexcite myself and then crash. But now I have been sitting here just mending a skirt lining by hand for almost an hour and that felt good.

What a beautiful result, and such a great service Michelle is providing. I really hear you on not particularly wanting a ballgown, took me ages to get inspired to design mine for the Bath Ball, I would rather have dressed as a Victorian gent but didn’t have anything suitable, but that inspired me to make a bodice based on a tailcoat (also I gave myself the character of being the Madame of a Parisian house of pleasure) and was happy in the end! Hi Noelle. I just built my first ever corset by taking a class. The class cost covered all the materials. There were six of us and we all achieved gorgeous results. I did my course with NZCorestry. Amy was a very good teacher and I am so very pleased with my results. I wore my corset all day and it just felt like a hug. Driving was a little more difficult than usual but no other tasks were. I would like to make one in denim to wear as a fashion layer.

Finally I have viewed a current post so I can introduce myself to you and your historical dress/sewist hive family! I grew up in the SF Bay Area, on the bay side peninsula, Los Altos and Mountain View. I moved from CA in 1980 to Denver and since 1983 I live in Santa Fe, NM. I have been sewing since I was 5, and dressed my dolls in period dresses I created, so I suppose I was destined to become a costume designer from child hood. I have a BFA in Fashion Design and a trade school degree in Fashion design. At that time there was no degree for Clothing Historians.I have been in and out of the SCA since 1974, always seriously involved in the period dress aspect of it. In the past 7-8 years I have followed my Danish/Norwegian heritage and heavily thrown myself into pictorial embroidery of Viking Age artwork from various mediums and place them into and onto my period embroidered clothing. I also do period hoping and History Bounding & love to dress the part with my own creations, representing correctly as possible, of course! I do enjoy your process and the factual presentation of what it takes to do a proper kit, head to toe! Thank you for that, I mean it, from the bottom of my heart! Thanks to you I dug out my pattern drafting sloaper ,re-drafted it to my current shape, then designed some cottage core/Victorian inspired dresses. I have become inspired to design again largely due to You and Costuming Drama!Next is a corset! The one I made in 1976, well it just doesn't.

2023 is a train wreck! 😂🤣😂 The corset is awesome. I accidentally lost a ton of weight and now am like right in line with vintage big 3 but I’m still going to her site to check it out. Sunday, I designed, printed and mocked up a knit blouse. Yesterday, I stitched together fabric I purchased from Backroomfinds (and cut out) in late September. I used a ‘60’s pattern from my Nana’s stash. It turned out awesome! Today, I went to work and had the worst class ever. 😂 It’s like a friggin rollercoaster ride up in here...oh it snowed to white out conditions while the kiddos were out on the playground...then it melted and refrozen to cause maximum hazard conditions. Love how it looks on you. Where did you get your corset ham? I tried searching in and came up with nothing. The version I have been working on is slightly different than this one. The hip panel goes around to a small section of the back of it. It’s in “Corsets Historical Patterns and Techniques” by Jill Salen on pages 58-61. I used this to self draft my pattern. I made one by Truly Victorian from the 1880’s. It made my back hurt too bad to be wearable. The Pretty housemaid I was able to wear several hours at a time. However, the bust was not right. Can’t wait to see the next one.

@@Costuming_Drama bags are a great mini project - relative to the bigger quilt/costume projects that are marathon activities, bags can be completed in only 3-5 hours over a weekend. My first bag make was from Sara Lawson @ SewSweetness, called the Superbloom Tote. I love your videos! I have a suggestion for when you need to file your bones... a dust box. Basically, get a cheap plastic tote, turn it on its side, cut a hole at the center for a shop-vac hose, and use your dremmel inside the tote. Presto! No more dusty mess. I'm new to sewing and desperately want to make a corset, but my body type is "outside normal sizing". I'm so glad you found this pattern. I'm definitely going to order it.

Coming back now that I was able to finish the video. It looks a👏🏻ma👏🏻zing! It is so exciting to have options like these where you don't have to figure out all the adjustments yourself to have something that is your size, you can focus on _actually making the thing_. This to me is mind-blowing/awesome, so thanks for sharing the resource with us! ❤️ I have to confess I'm still a bit scared for the cording, but I think it'd be ok as long as I practiced it first! Indeed corsets are not _too_ hard... I mean, there's no sleeves to set and for me that's a huge win 🤣 Thanks for always cheering us on and spreading good vibes ❤️

Oh seriously, cording is no big deal and you can’t mess it up. It’s just like “shove it in there and then sew next to it”, it’s really hard to mess up, trust me, just try it on a scrap first and you will be astonished how not stressful it is!

You came up on my feed. I am working at sewing. I have all kinds of ideas, just need the skill to execute them, which will come with practice. I hope. I love watching you making this corset. At some point, I want to do one, but I am terrified to make the attempt. Thank you for taking the time to do this video. Have a very happy day.

I think this corset is next on my corset list. First I want to fix up the one I've already made because it's a bit big (I had no idea how much I'd squish down in an actual corset when I patterned it out) and the side front bones are a bit long and encounter my thighs when I sit down lol. Right now I'm adding the trim and closures on my winter pj chemise and drawers, felling a tunic, and embroidering some wool mitts before I sew them up! I also still need to add the binding on the table runners I'm making for my mom

Hello Noelle! Happy March! That 'mockup' turned out amazing! It looks so good on you! As someone who has never made a corset and was hoping to some time this year this is a wonderful tutorial, thank you so much! I'm super late to the party but I'm launching into the Marvel TV shows, and I'm reading How to Make Mead Like a Viking by Jereme Zimmerman. I cut into some lovely linen tweed to make the 18th Century Men's Shirt pattern by Burnley and Trowbridge because I feel the overwhelming need to practice some basics. Happy Sewing and hopefully the storms haven't been too much!

Thank you for making corsets seem less intimidating! I listened to this while I was cutting panels to insulate my garage door. The idea is to corral the "crafts" - painting, sewing, & more - into the garage and out of my tiny bedroom. Thanks for entertaining me while I was wrestling with styrofoam!

First time in the comments but I’ve followed the channel for a long while. Know how to sew clothes but haven’t been doing it a lot and definitely not lately. Love this option to get a custom made pattern. Have been curious to make a corset but have been scared of trying to fit it myself. This has given me food for thought. Thx ❤

I've actually been wanting a Pretty Housemaid corset for my collection. ❤ I'm so glad you shared Michelle's info! ❤I didn't realize she was doing custom sizing!!! My experience with the front lacing stays from Redthreaded was great, so I'm looking forward to the straight lines on this nice corset. Honestly, I was intimidated by the cording but you made it look so easy! 😊 I'm excited to see what sort of ballgown you come up with. I'm in a very 1860s mood of late, so trying to consider future projects in that era whilst still trying to (slowly) work on my 1770s/1780s pieces. 🤷‍♀

I've been eyeing Michelle's corset for months and someday I am going to go get her pattern. At the moment I don't feel I can do that yet, because .... too many unfinished projects. 😅 I want to finish at least some, before starting a new project. I don't know why I can't finish sometimes. Oh well. Anyway, I'll make sure to hit up your video once again, whenever I get to actually making a pretty housemaid corset! You are very encouraging and it looks like it's not that hard to make. 😁😁😁

You make it look so easy. I'm still cleaning the sewing room. I got three more bins put away, yesterday, AND I can finally reach my sewing machine, which was convenient. I let out the ruching on a sequined dress, and now I need to re-hem it as a much longer dress. And I helped put some embellishment on a newly safety pinned and punked out cropped black denim jacket. This corset is GORGEOUS in colors! The teal, the purple -- I'm no where near a place where I can start cutting and sewing, again, but this corset is very tempting. And it FITS!!

Hii, I loved watching this while working on my current project 😊 I impulsively bought fabric to make a wedding dress (no one's getting married though, I'm 20 xD) and I wanna make the top part of it a corset. I've never made one before and I just kind of made the pattern by draping it on myself, so I don't know how it's gonna turn out, but I've been loving watching all the corset content on KZbin while getting busy 😊

You look amazing in that corset,, like you I expected that you would have to make a number of changes to it, so, when we had the first look at it I was really surprised and happy to see how it looks. The corset is a testament to your accuracy of measuring and also to Michelle's pattern drafting skills . Well done. On another note you have just reminded me about Molly Harpers books, which I have enjoyed in the past and I shall have to get hold of some more. I have just finished the Mistborn series by Brendon Sanderson, which was epic in both senses of the word. I'm looking forward to the ball gown!

Thanks for showing me this, I've been wanting to do something like this since forever now. Even downloaded and printed a corsett pattern. But I've had big problems with getting the messiurements right, a specially since I'm not one size. I have however put the project on hold since I'm expecting a breast reduction this summer, so no point in doing it until I know my new size. I definitely loved the idea of buying a pattern that was allredy made to fit me, makes me allot more eager to actually buy a pattern.
