Great demo and instructions. I just purchased the Duet pants (also Love Notions) because it had this option, so it is wonderful to see how it is actually done. Both Ravina skirts, look so professional. I had been binding from front to back; the exact opposite way, you mentioned. I will try the back to front binding, on the Duet pockets.
@LiftingPinsandNeedles4 жыл бұрын
The concept of the pant is the same but the sewing is a little different with the duets because it’s a woven. You can see how those are done on this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5-xoqxmiLqqjLs

Karina, from one guilty swooner over rayon spandex to another! FINALLY, they are making lyocell/Tencel spandex that feels even more wonderful and has even better magical drape, yet will not progressively shrink. *But most importantly, it is so very much safer for the environment and only costs a bit more when I've bought it deeply discounted at Joann's (also online) in both patterns and solids. Etsy sellers also have it available and I'm sure higher end fabric stores must also have it. I love your pocket plan, and will use it on my next lyocell spandex skirt! Thanks.
@LiftingPinsandNeedles4 жыл бұрын
I don’t have access to that type of fabric. I haven’t found my rayon knit to shrink progressively at all. Actually it shrinks much less than rayon woven fabrics.
@eliseville4 жыл бұрын
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles Keep your eye out for them. They're really quite nice, and can be even a bit silkier & drapier than the standard rayons and breath far better too! The reason they're moving more to lyocell rayon (spandex and wovens), and especially the eco-branded Tencel lyocell, is that standard rayon production is extremely toxic in our biosphere, but the lyocell extrusion process recycles and doesn't need to release even the much less toxic chemicals of their modified production. ( I just did a project on the production differences for my fashion certificate program at my local Junior College in California.) Ask your fabric suppliers if they can carry some of this wonderful fabric! It takes some of the joy out of sewing when I understand that my favorite fabric is so ecologically destructive. BTW, I just ordered the Ravinia skirt pattern through you. Thanks for your inspiring tutorials! I think I might try a compression knit panel, but redesigned, to go all the way around for my oversized gut, and with more fiddling so the lovely gathered pockets' backings will still be attractive. Though, as I think about it, I might have to somehow free it from the side seams for the skirt to maintain its free flow? Maybe I'll just do a single connected full front panel of rayon, standard pocket backings, and then a full circumference compression panel, all together in the waistband? That won't be too bulky, will it? I have both lyocell and regular rayon spandex, but your stripe-play was so fun, I'll probably do my regular rayon stripe, first, but in the shorter, jazzier version!

Could you use rayon woven for skirt with knit waist band and pocket area? Thank you as alway you think out side of the box and explain very clearly.
@LiftingPinsandNeedles4 жыл бұрын
The waist has quite a lot of negative ease. Even on the part where it will attach to the waistband, so a woven will not work with this pattern. As a rule of thumb: if there is negative ease in a knit pattern, it won’t work with a woven.

@cigdemunal5204 жыл бұрын
Bigger and united pocket, might be useful almost like a slip, as an extra layer, therefore the skirt will not be see through in front of a light source. What do you think ?
@LiftingPinsandNeedles4 жыл бұрын
I would not make them bigger than they are. If the fabric is see through you’d need a layer in the back too.
@dianeanthony93003 жыл бұрын
This video was amazing. Thank you so much!! I have a couple of questions for you, though. did you cut the elastic in the waist shorter than the waistband? If so, how much? How do you stitch the elastic into the top of the waistband?
@LiftingPinsandNeedles3 жыл бұрын
The elastic is about 3” smaller than my waist measurement and it’s sewn on the top seam of the waistband with a small zig zag stitch. You can see how to do that in my other video of the Ravinia skirt I have on the channel. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJbChZ2sqLminK8
@keriturner61352 жыл бұрын
Thought with Knits we are to only cut on Grain line?
@LiftingPinsandNeedles2 жыл бұрын
Depends. If the stretch is the same horizontally and vertically, I’d be happy to cut the other way around too. You do have to keep the grain though. There’s no actual “grain” but you get it.
@karenstrand62594 жыл бұрын
Love the idea of a little tummy support! I used your link to purchase the pattern and have some ITY in my stash that I think will be cute. Can you tell me what width of elastic you used in the waistband? Thank you again for another inspiring video.

@gloriawalker32264 жыл бұрын
Oh good! I was hoping that this modified "comfy tummy support pockets" can be done with a woven fabric. I understand the pattern you demonstrated is designed for knits. I'm making Simplicity 8641 "jumper" or overall dress using your comfy tummy tip!. I'll will tag (IG)you when I'm done.
@kathiefish65774 жыл бұрын
Would this work with trousers?
@LiftingPinsandNeedles4 жыл бұрын
Depends on the curve of the front crotch shape. Sometimes the pocket can’t extend the whole front, unless it does and there is a zipper in the middle. I’ve made two pants that were drafted to take the curve of the front into account.
