In this clip: Evan Handler and Kristin Davis
Clip Quote: "It's my favorite ornament. Silent night holy night. See?
That's the holy family in the nativity. This was my Grandma York's.
It's so old. See how there's hardly any glitter left on the baby Jesus?
It's very rare to have a blue Christmas ornament."
About this clip: In this Nativity scene, the Goldenblatts preserve the unheard melodies of the Jew of Nazareth immortalized on the antique blue bauble for their very special last Christmas tree. Charlotte's irreparable, irrevocable loss is then beautifully overcome by the glorification of theological syncretism.

The Dreidel Song: • I Have a Little Dreide...
I have a little dreidel. I made it out of clay.
And when it's dry and ready, then dreidel I shall play.
Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, I made it out of clay.
Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, then dreidel I shall play.
It has a lovely body, with legs so short and thin.
When it gets all tired, it drops and then I win!
Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, with leg so short and thin.
Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, it drops and then I win!
My dreidel's always playful. It loves to dance and spin.
A happy game of dreidel, come play now let's begin.
Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, it loves to dance and spin.
Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel. Come play now let's begin.
I have a little dreidel. I made it out of clay.
When it's dry and ready, dreidel I shall play.
Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, I made you out of clay.
Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, then dreidel I shall play.

I understand, and I agree. But I mean I think Charlotte wasn’t a very serious Christian in the first place. So maybe her decision was easier and more of a breeze than most others. That’s just my perspective. I personally would never give up my religion, but no judgement or malice to the people who would. I mean she seemed happy with her decision on the long run.

Christmas is now more of a secular holiday in the US, so many people I know celebrate it no matter their faith or lack thereof. People used to get mad and say Christmas is such a commercialized holiday now, but it is not exactly like people with this argument all went to church on Christmas day. Also, the whole concept of the Christmas tree came out of pagan Germanic celebrations that pre-dated Christmas as a Christian celebration, which was actually not celebrated until 325 AD. The exact birthday of Jesus is unknown, so the whole concept of Christmas and the tree being a Christian holiday is not exactly so. For instance, there was a really interesting blog I read about how Christmas is celebrated in Iran, which is definitely not a Christian majority country. Christmas is also popular in Japan, which is definitely not a Christian majority country.

Yeah.. but she would have learned in Conversion class that it has to be for the convert, not for the other person. I don't know about her process, but I know with mine, that was the VERY first question on day one ---as to WHY! I mean, Jews aren't in the converting business. It's not in the religion, so if you're intent on converting to it you best really WANT to, because, and let's be honest, the sh-t you're gonna get as a convert both from whacko militant xians and some (a minor minor number) of elitist Jews (it does happen) is gonna test your purpose even before you make it to the Mikveh (even a reform conversion takes about year). Charlotte was converting OBSERVANT and she packed in ONE year what most would take 2.5 to learn... her rabbi must have thought she was committed enough and diligent enough to do the work. I know, I know.. this is fiction.

Nonsense. If she truly believed in Jesus, she'd stay Christian. He stays Jewish. And they celebrate Both. Love.
@creativewriter3887
@creativewriter3887 2 жыл бұрын
Would you celebrate Ramadan and Easter? It doesn't work that way. He's Orthodox-- it would be considered an offense to his family and the Orthodox community.. Even if he were okay with it, his parents and family would not be, despite how much they loved him. The Torah (G-d was very clear on this). It would create all sorts of issues. Jews don't do Jesus.. and as a convert, even as REFORM, that would NEVER work for me. Which is why historically, even when it was down to Jews to either convert or die, many chose death. And in the case of the Spanish Expulsion, they chose to leave rather than convert and stay with their property (well, the Crown had already seized most of the Jews' property). And sure enough, in August of 1492 about 60,000 Jews left Spain with only the clothes on their backs. That should tell you how serious the Jews took this. And those who converted? Guess what was set up to ensure they were "loyal" to xianity? The Inquisition. Just another way for the church to take what it wanted while getting rid of the Jews entirely. So yeah.. historically this " let's play nice with both" never ever works out.. despite what the Messianic xians (they're not jewish) tell you.

@@zhenghao123 They're not "infidels", you twit. the children are simply seen as non-jewish.. Although in Reform Judaism, if one parent is Jewish the children are. Harry stated from the onset his family is Orthodox, even if he wasn't so observant. As such, he could not marry a non-Jew. He told Charlotte this from the onset. Christmas is actually a pagan holiday fusion, having to do with Roman Saturnalia and winter solstice. Trees, holly, and greenery were used to celebrate Dionysus, wine, gifts, and debauchery. That was the only way to get ancient Roman pagans to become Christian. They decided Christmas should be celebrated in December, but the real date was likely spring because shepherds were tending sheep. They would likely celebrate it quietly with gifts of cheese, dates, and figs instead elaborate gifts or toys. Read up on ancient Rome.
