Booting him was a good call. He didn't seem to start out hostile, so I wonder what changed? Dealing with frustrating things in life doesn't justify that behavior, especially not in a setting designed to allow people to put real life on hold in favor of challenges which can be resolved by fantastic means.

If you say sexist, racist, homophobic, etc things when you're "going through" something, all that tells me is that 1) it's how you really feel and 2) you know it's bad if you don't normally say it
@BlueTressym
@BlueTressym Ай бұрын
Yes, especially with how targeted it is. If the dude was just generally being kind of a jerk, I'd still tell him to stop but at least the 'Because he's going through something,' would feel more feasible. I mean, the only thing for which going through it would likely trigger misogynistic nonsense like that is if he'd just been dumped and I'd think Daniel would know and at least give OP some kind of heads-up about it when the bs started if that was the case. It'd still be completely unacceptable behaviour, though.

Guessing at an enemy's AC is like the least metagamey thing... If the enemy's in fullplate with a tower shield, probably gonna have pretty high AC, if it's got iron scales covering its whole body, probably gonna have high AC, if it's a tiny creature that darts about extremely rapidly, probably gonna have high AC, while if it's a large purple slug that can barely move and has a soft underbelly, low AC, if it's a mostly nude ogre with a beergut and a lazy eye, probably gonna have a low AC. Some people are way too quick to shout "metagaming!".

Lets be real, even if you say as you said, this DM wouldn't accept it on the grounds that he's a paid Yes man who NEEDS players like OP in order to attract Meal Tickets like the "Favorite" who KNOWS he can get away with anything because the DM is as said, "A Paid Enabler" and he knows OP is a "FREE PLAYER" so he can abuse him as he wishes! DM likely got ON OP BECAUSE he noticed "Favorites" abuse on him and tried to play that he was "being reasonable" which he's looking DOWN on OP for assuming he'd be that stupid to believe that shit! It's like the Pay to Win Garbage idea! Mix Skillful FREE players with the WHALES paying the big bucks! Let the Skilled players THINK they have a chance to win when the odds are HEAVILY in the Whales favor. And you have your set up! The issue is, when the Skilled Players realize the game is rigged or get tired of this arrangement and leave, the Whales will be FIGHT "themselves" and well when "you have DOOM Cocker 8799 with his NIGH Invulnerable Armor and Instant Kill BFG going against NoSelfRESPECT6666 also wielding the same. Eventually one or BOTH will get bored to TEARS fight the same INVINCIBILE player with no chance of either winning, and they'll leave, which for him means "No more Money" for him. This isn't a Long Term good idea. Yet the Money blinds the idiots to it till it blows up To the OP, "Favorite" is likely not the only reason, those leaving likely knew as I described that there was no WINNING and opted to just LEAVE which was smart

Agreed. As a DM I don't care if the players try to find out the AC or any other stats of the creature. All of those numbers represent something in-world, as such they *should* be discernable. The only metagaming that bothers me is if the players collude about things one of their characters shouldn't know but another does, or use the out of game table goings-on to inform in-game decisions; this usually takes the form of a scenario like this: player A and B are in room 4'. Player C is in room 5. Player C has gone from where they diverged in room 1, through rooms 2, 3, 4, and 5 all by themselves and it hasn't been a problem. Players A and B have been happy to go down a different hallway through rooms 2', 3', and 4'. In room 5 player C finds a treasure chest and goes to open it. Suddenly it is dangerous for player C to be alone so players A and B need to "go check on them." Note: This exact situation hasn't happened in a game I've run, but it gives the general idea, and while yes you could argue about player etiquette in regard to opening a treasure chest without the entire party present, if they cleared that path entirely on their own you can definitely argue that they deserve the stuff therein. But the point is more about how the characters of players A and B wouldn't know about this; the only reason the players know is because I (or whoever is DMing) didn't take player C to a separate space to run their exploration of room 5.

The age reveal of the problem players in the first story was a real sucker punch. The whole thing sounds like the kind of stupid, awkward drama high schoolers conjure up, and at least high schoolers have the excuse of going through one of the most tumultuous times of physiological and social development of their lives. (Like seriously, of COURSE you're going to think a dude in some HEAVY ass durable armor is going to be a tough nut to crack! THAT is realistic as the Realism cult love to spew but never understand) But then you have idiots screaming PLOT HOLES or PLOT ARMOR and completely ignoring the setup beforehand or not "listing even ONE of the so called MANY plot holes they apparently noticed in the story" because they know they didn't find a single one or if they did, it's so minor they know if people could slap others via the internet, they'd be slapped enough for their cheeks to go as red as a baboons butt for annoying and wasting people's time!

It's just an edgy joke", but also to know what a person's limit is and to never cross that line. For instance, I had a friend lose their mother and they were really hurt over it. I often make "yo mama" jokes just to get a cheap laugh. When I heard that happened, I never made yo mama jokes around them again

Hey. I hear a lot of paid games getting flack (and mostly for good reason) but I'm actually in a paid game that I enjoy, and it's one of the best DnD games I've evet been in. The DM even has a forum to make sure he's letting in players that won't disrupt the game. This game is basically DnD meets animal crossing, where we have been building up and protecting a town with the help of a somewhat greedy monster (i promise it's not just DnD Tom Nook). I think one of the best parts of the game is how everyone gets a chance to be in the spotlight and my favorite parts of the game have come from a friend who is playing a Thri-keen Druid. They've basically been tasked by a late relative to save the forest our little town is surrounded by from "blight" and to say their story has brought me to happy tears is an understatement. I hope this shows that while yes, people can use paid games to take advantage of others and it sucks, there are a few good DMs out there who just want to be paid for their time. Dm, friends, if you're reading this, you're all the best.

Honestly, if the people wanna ERP, as long as all partners are informed and consenting, it's okay. In my current campaign, my character is in a romantic relationship and is married, and we're both OOG married to other people. We've both told our partners, and we don't bleed it outside game, though we'll talk about them during downtime sometimes. In our last session, my character's wife blew up in game, when the Rogue panicked at seeing his personal questline BBEG and ran from battle, leaving my Paladin facing a mind flayer alone. I think the relationship helps her get more invested in the game.

Agreed and yes it works perfectly fun when people are adults about it, as you've described. Trust and respect go a long way. Still the people in the first story need to have some consideration for other players. I mean, if the GM doesn't mind his SO and another dude roleplaying smut, it's not anyone's else's business BUT, when it's making other people uncomfortable, an OOC chat about what is and isn't appropriate at the table needs to happen. If the group agreed at Session 0 that sexual RP was OK, maybe OP's sensibilities just aren't compatible with that group, which is fine but they may need to find another group that aligns with their preferences better. If it wasn't agreed at Session 0 that it was OK, and/or the players in question are causing discomfort to multiple people, the players really need to either tone it down or stick to doing it in private sessions. I mean, I run games that sometimes include ERP and it's fine but we're all aware that it's not everyone's cup of tea so it occurs only in private channels (for pbp/text games) or private sessions (for live games). No one participates, or even witnesses any of it unless they're cool with doing so.

Story#1 - If something is making you uncomfortable, you have every right to say so. If the rest of the Party is OK with it, then MAYBE it is best to just try to distance yourself from that whole thing. Honestly, I am concerned about Edge Lord's mental health and what could happen if / when this "relationship" hits any turbulence or even breaks up. That will not end well. Story #2 - Personally, I think this w#nk#r was given a little too much leeway early on, but that's just me. I do wonder why, with his misogyny, why he chose to stay with a female DM as long as he did. Then again, maybe that was exactly why - a convenient target. His removal / non-attendance is a good thing - one can hope that he eventually learns something. Story #3 - Kudos to the DM for adapting, and for still being able to give his little brother a fun game. I put the group's behavior down to teenage dumb@$$ery, something I'd usually visit harsh consequences upon, but I GET why he didn't in this case. Story #4 - Honestly, why NOT demand a refund?

Calculating AC is not really metagaming in my humble opinion. Of course, the character does not yell "9 to hit!" but it is apparent to any good fighter how hard it is to wound a target and how much it is affected. The "9 to hit!" is just the player discution to speak about what the characters see and feel. Once a DM made a riddle about elves and claimed it was metagaming when I found what it was without rolling to know what specy it was... Age gap does not always = power imbalance. You're not more powerful than someone just because you're older than them. Yes, in some cases, there actually IS a power imbalance but that's far from universal. Age alone is not power unless you're talking about one of the people being under eighteen or one occupying an actual position of authority over the other, like a teacher, coach, boss, manager etc. Do you think that people are only allowed to date people of the same age? Do you feel such a lack of respect for anyone younger than you that you're convinced it's the same with everyone? Also, people don't all live life at the same pace and the idea that we should only date people who are in the same place as us is silly.. Meeting, associating with, and yes, sometimes dating people different from us is how we learn more about the world. There are plenty of genuine creeps out there to worry about but getting obsessed with age gaps is not how we fix that and in many cases, is actually counterproductive.
