Singapore has weakening local culture because we have way too many foreigners here. Preserving a house will NOT help to strengthen local culture. At this point, it has just become a symbol of the Lee family feud that has been made so public.

Singapore has always been a country of immigrants. As early as 2 3 generations ago, our forefathers arrived in sg to seek better lives. So local culture is evolving all the time. And that house. Like it or not is of historical value. Children now most likely don’t know LKY, future generations won’t. LKY is intertwined with the independence of SG. So let’s see how the gov will settle this that satisfies all parties. Unless it’s torn down, land sold for many many millions.

100 years between everything? 🙄 From when Sang Nila Utama supposedly founded the first city on the island to present its about 700 years... From Raffles to today its been slightly more than 200 years... It's not that SIngapore has not history. It's more accurate to say that most Singaporeans have no idea about the history of Singapore.

We don't even know our colonial history well. Singapore was part of the straits settlements, and was the capital for 100+ years. Do we really know what that even means? So many of us work in Shenton Way, but do people know who the road was named after for example.
