one of the most under rated bands ever they had a strange mix of menace and comedy backed up with pure talent, they disappeared to early.

This was such a great period for music. Bands had an actual identity and they didn't all sound the same. These guys..Sparks..Roxy Music...Mott The Hoople...fantastic music with a fantastic image. These days the band members all look like they just got off work at the muffler shop. Remember all the Pearl Jam clones ? It's no wonder the music industry is in the toilet. No originality and no character. Sad.

For a short time, SAHB were the live band to see, they could do it all, even the rock theatre/burlesque thing and the hilarious dance routines. Confident, tough as nails and good musicians, I can't think of anyone who compared to them in terms of scope. AH sometimes had a slightly worrying demeanour about him accompanied by his sinister lieutenants on bass & guitar. FZ may have said once: "I just want to say there are only two bands in the world worth buying a ticket to: Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention and a Scottish group called the Alex Harvey Band". In fact, I reckon it's probably the early Mothers they had more in common with, who also did theatrical skits. All the albums have something wonderful about them, even the final ones.

Totally wonderful! They didn't make em like this before and they certainly haven't made em like it since :D One of a kind! I remember seeing the band at Kinema Ballroom Dunfermline on a very early tour. I spent so much time watching Alex that I had to go and see them again to watch the other guys..ZAL did it for me again and so on and on the love affair went! You had to see the band this way because you missed so much each time.

jerry, you are absolutely bang on pal, I agree 100%, far too many bands now seem to base their songs on what's been popular in the previous six months! nobody has the guts to do their own thing or take risks, bands have 'customers' now, at one time they used to have 'fans', there's a big difference.

Another Scot peddling the acdc is Scottish nonsense. Bon was a Bogan, he had unmistakable unsophisticated Aussie humour, nothing like the quirky, art school vibes of SAHB.
