Thank you so much for taking the time to show alternative methods to deal with the ric rac- I’m never comfortable with joining ric rac. Also, love the way you did the back - way better than sewing raw edges closed. Very cute pin cushion!

Just a tip 😀 the plastic centers from empty thread cones make great funnels, especially the ones with fluted ends to more easily guide the pour. The openings are wider than normal funnels too, so the pour moves through very easily. I hope this helps. Thank you Jen, you are an amazing teacher and your products are the best!

I don't have the "corner clipper" tool, but the idea of having the line to follow? I started doing that myself, only because I'm bringing my woodworking skills to this new venture of sewing, and one doesn't cut a board X distance away from a line, you draw a line and cut ON the line. Oh, and that tool is a whole lot like a tri-square, a tool I've used for decades on lumber! 😂 They come in small (the kind you usually see at your average store) and large, amd they have angles like the protractor we all used way back in grade school. 😉

FYI Jen…it’s called the loop method of knotting. I would most definitely use the fray check on the cut edge of the rickrack trim. Couple of other options for people to consider is do either a overcast or serge stitching for attaching the rickrack to take care of the fraying on the outer edge, also use this same method for sewing the top to back then you have also taken care of any fabric fraying as well. I think the method for the back fabric closing whereby you use the 1/2” seam is a great one. After tying the knot for the button closure, one could also bury the thread inside of the pincushion. Don’t apologize for the length of the video for it clarifies the entire method.

Did you have fun doing this video on sewing an American Pie pin cushion? Talking to a camera/audience might be a bit stressful for over an hour. (Sometimes talking to my husband for more than 10 minutes proves to be challenging). Loved the pin cushion instructions and extras you showed while making it.

Love this project and all your suggestions. The pincushion is so cute. I think I would use drops of glue to hold on that rickrack. I am a big glue user anyways lol. Elmers glue is cheap.

Other good options for dealing with the slit stretch: stabilize the area with a fusible before hand, or you can even stitch a "slot" around where you'll be clipping with small stitches.
