Hi again! I’ve been looking at this tutorial every day lately and now I would feel confident in making it; I was a little afraid , at first, of messing with the glue. Thanks a lot for showing us the whole process and then speed up,the footage instead of making parts of it off camera. As a visual person, it helps me to see the whole thing. And as usual, you’re always so well prepared , you make it easy for us to go ahead and do it. Have a great day! 🌺🌸

Using a clapper when pressing the Prairie Points aids in getting the "fluffiness" of the fabric under control so that the Prairie Point will lay flat. I use a clear sole #34 foot. This holds the fabric down as I sew, but many do prefer the open toe foot. These hot pads and the larger Table Topper by Debra Miller are so fun to make. Experiment with colors and patterns to vary the final look.

Hi and thanks a million for taking the time to do each step with us. I’d like to give it a try some day and with the help of this tutorial, I’ll be able to do it. @ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 2 жыл бұрын
We're happy you enjoy this tutorial. We think that a Thread Director is not necessary for the mono-poly, since it is a "round" thread. The Thread Directors are more necessary when working with "flat" threads like the holographic metallic threads. Hope that makes sense! 💖 -Michelle

This is the Amish folded star. You can make your own template. Get a piece of freezer paper...print the template on the dull (paper) side. Flip it over to the plastic side...where you can easily see the template. Use glue stick to go hold down square...freezer paper will peel off as needed or you can see straight through it. Wonderful stuff.

Ok I need to make all of these! If actually using as a hot pad would you use insulbright? I am moving soon and should make some Christmas gifts before I pack my sewing room till I don’t have one for an indefinite time. People I would gift to would use them as hot pads and not decor. I can’t imagine regular batting would work for my baker friends. Or would you layer insul bright and batting? I’ve only ever used it in mug rugs.

Hello! Thank you for watching! The star is built with 4 layers of folded triangles plus batting, making it thick enough to protect a surface from a hot plate. The pattern does not call for insul-bright so we have not made them with it, however, we would love to hear how it works out for you should you choose to try it! Stay safe and happy sewing! ~Leah

I'm curious as to what pressor foot you are using? I see you have a Bernina, which machine? I have a 440 but don't see that it would work on it.

Since these are hot pads, shouldn't you be using something like Insul-Bright rather than plain batting??
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 4 жыл бұрын
For our videos, we go by what is said in the pattern which is the batting. If you would like to substitute Insul-Bright for that batting, we don't see any reason why that wouldn't work however that is not how we did the project so we cannot guarantee the same results. We would love to see your finished Hot Pads! Thank you for watching! ~Leah

Hi, been watching all of these lovely videos and can't wait to make my first of many! Would like to know what kind of paper to copy the pattern on. Is it a special kind? Doesn't seem like regular paper will hold up! HELP! Am new to crafting, but love it! Need something constructive to do while I am "doing time".

Just take a piece of foundation fabric 10 inches square. Iron it horizontally both ways and diagonal too. Then you don’t have to buy the pre printed patterns.

I live in the UK. Can you get Hoffman jingle pops, Plum Easy Patterns and Clover rulers for using with an iron in the UK? Thank you for this tutorial and the Christmas folded fabric ornaments. If you're using a monofiliment thread(which is plastic) won't it melt when using it as a hot pad? Linda
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 2 жыл бұрын
hi Ben and/or Linda Lubecki - We have done multiple heat tests with no negative effects on the hot pad. In all actuality, the fabric would probably singe prior to thread melting. Hope this makes sense. -Michelle

Hi Karen - You can still use that fabric for binding - you just may have to finagle it a bit since it wasn't cut on the bias. Hope this makes sense :) -Michelle

Tips for using monofilament. I followed your directions but I still find it problematic. Also, couldn’t find measurements for hanger. Loving the video.
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics Жыл бұрын
For the hanging loop fabric, you'll cut a piece of fabric approximately 1 and 3/4" x 5" and you will fold it into a thin loop to stitch onto the hot pad. Regarding the Monofilament thread, it can be a bit tricky to work with. You will want to be sure that you're using it only on the top of your machine, and you should take some scrap fabrics to practice on. Hope this help!😊 - Abby

Couple of questions... Are you keeping the dog-feed down while sewing... and is that a quilter’s walking presser foot? Also... earlier in the video you mentioned using “appliqué pressing sheet” or wax paper... do you mean to sandwich that between the fabric and the pattern “interfacing template”? ...just where exactly would you put the wax paper? Thanks!!! These are SO beautiful!

I recently purchased the Square Hot Pad, and I was just wondering on layer 4 would I just cut the same size for all the pieces for that Row instead of making the corner pieces? It looks like in your video that the pieces look the same size... I spent the day cutting, and ironing, but I plan on gluing the pieces down tomorrow, but before doing that I wanted to know if I am correct? I love this pattern, and it's so much fun to make!

Won't the heat of use melt that thread? I wondered this when my Mother used it for her potholder bindings too.
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 4 жыл бұрын
We have used the monofilament and so far we haven't had anything melt. It seems like the thread gets buried in those folds so when a hot pan comes in direct contact with the hot pad, it doesn't melt.
