The Museum recently received a very special delivery - a crate containing a set of miniature medals that belonged to the Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton. Miniature medals are smaller versions of full-sized medals that are typically worn with formal non-military attire such as dinner jackets. They are also easier to wear, particularly when the wearer is as decorated as Sir Ernest!
The Museum purchased this set at auction from Christie’s in London. They complement the full-sized Shackleton medals in our collection - we now have an example of every one of the medals awarded to Shackleton.
