Im a new developer crafting a game directly inspired by OG Thief series and im going through Thief video analyses and playthroughs to get a feel what people enjoy in general. Came across your Trilogy Retrospective. You have done an amazing job! It is a bit sad that this game never comcluded with the next part of Garrett's evolution, but on the other hand, it did close on a somewhat high note. T3 might not be a masterpiece but it has the soul of Thief, story, music, atmosphere, mister Russel etc. and some absolute banger missions. A bittersweet, but mostly sweet closing to a great series.

ps. Honestly, if it wasn't the animation based movement and it's various glitches this game would be 50% better. Just a personal taste
@ShadoSpartan44 Жыл бұрын
definitely this series needs a remaster and the third game could use a remake to help with the movement and awkward bugs happening. like you said it still has the soul of a thief game and i enjoyed the funny moments it had@@GarDenofThieves

Did you play The Black Parade yet? Its amazing and absolutely captures what made Thief 1 great.

Great video! Having watched your other retrospectives, I do think that you are getting better with each video. For example, the graphics demarking sections are a nice touch. I also personally enjoy the little bits where you interject with yourself in the moment of recording. They usually give me a laugh! On a side note, I need to dedicate some time to an proper playthrough of the Thief trilogy. It has always been neat to look at from a distance, but Gloomwood has really sparked my interest in the series.

thanks appreciate it, I am curious about gloomwood, i keep hearing about it and seen a few early access videos, once it comes out definitely gonna do a playthrough of it

10:56 Ah, I liked panting bodies and having them go at it as well (though in my case I had the pagans and hammerites fight). 21:17 Agh, that huge monster was the most difficult thing in the game. Finally killing it was a big sense of achievement. 42:34 Loudness warning.

I loved Thief 1 + 2, I played Thief 3 for a while twice but never got hooked. That fan-made patch looks interesting though.

when it doesn't soft lock you, it is a great mod to recreate that thief 1 & 2 feeling

Oh yeah you probably already known but there IS a map of The Cradle down in one of the crypts when wandering the city. Its kind of bonus content.

there is a somewhat of a secret level in this game. If you let the city watch kill you, you won't actually die. You end up in Jail and have to escape the city prison.

For the first two games mods outside of compatibility and briefings are optional, for Deadly Shadows the Gold mod that removes the loading zones is a necessity IMO. It improves the game so much. Also The Black Parade is the best mod I have ever played.
@notsyzagts79679 ай бұрын
The BP mod is for Thief 1 Gold, not Deadly Shadows. You didn't make that clear the way you typed it.
@nothingelse15209 ай бұрын
@@notsyzagts7967for sure, I figured if people googled The Black Parade they would figure that out
@slowmercy69 Жыл бұрын
Wait, the old Thief-style briefing cutscenes were not part of the actual game? I thought they didn't play due to Windows compatibility
@ShadoSpartan44 Жыл бұрын
nope they got lazy and just had the menu with text and garrett narrating. That's why this mod was great for going the extra mile and creating thief style briefings

@@ShadoSpartan44 Mind blown 💀 That's like the one thing I appreciated playing Deadly Shadows!

"Its not as big I remember" When you look at Deadly Shadows missions in an editor they are absolutely tiny. I think the Hammerite mission in The Black Parade is easy 10x as big as the DS mission and i am not exaggerating that number.

My bad you’re playing a game called Thief and you think thieving should be optional?
@ShadoSpartan44Ай бұрын
yes, it was annoying trying to steal 90% loot, making it optional would be better for the player, the motivation to steal comes from needing more equipment for the next mission.

Worst game in the series, and one of the worst games I've ever forced myself to finish. Movement and interaction mechanics are some of the worst I have ever experienced. Nothing like being unable to open or close a gd door because you're not looking at it in just the right spot and at the right angle, or looking directly at a piece of loot but picking up a piece of junk six feet behind it instead, then having to drop that loot and alert every nearby guard because Garratt the "master thief" doesn't know how to SET ITEMS DOWN QUIETLY. Or falling off a ledge, or failing to jump onto a two foot crate, or failing to jump properly after mantling onto a surface, or getting stuck between planks of wood and having to reload a save because you CANNOT MOVE, or failing to walk in a straight line because you just turned 90 degrees, or having to be no more than 12 inches away to pick up a purse, but other items you can magically reach from 10 feet away, or or or or or. Don't even get me started on the dumpster baby that is wall climbing. Have fun having to reload over and over because the game REFUSES to behave in a way that is logical and predictable. If it were any other game it would be rightfully panned and poorly rated. The only thing that makes TDS playable is the goodwill granted to it by the first two games, and even then it sucks every bit of goodwill out of those games that it can.
