Tbf the cyber corruption actually does give Sonic powers via his new combat skills (Phantom Rush, Cyclone Kick, Cross Slash, etc). They were just underwhelming in execution, simply being "press two buttons to kill enemies more quickly" rather than unique extensions of him like the Doom Powers.

He was a little bit like this in 90s japanese media (less jovial, more cool af, even gets mad some times, while still being recognizable as Sonic). It's partially why I want Classic Sonic to stay around, because if he was handled more faithfully to japanese 90s Sonic, he'd be the coolest thing ever. So uh... We gonna talk about the Doom Powers to match those seen in Hellfire Saga? Make those powers giant Ghosts n' Goblins and Castlevania references to fully flesh out the mod. i.e. Replace the Doom Wings with Firebrand's Wings of the Falcon from Gargoyle's Quest. A fitting name for the Shadow Gens mod would be Fandom Gens, since Mephiles as a boss would be easily replaced with Nazo, envious of Ian Jr. who replaces one of the characters in the overworld. Sonic.exe replaces Metal Madness as a boss, and is furious that he's a subject of ridicule. I could go on.
