Shadow of the Colossus - Modding Argus slabs (Happy New Year!)

I made this video on Monday, 14th June 2010 which showcases how I modified the stone slabs that Argus steps on to move Wander up to the next level. You can see there are two huge stone walls on either side and when I activate Agrus it gets stuck and then disappears!
Next, we see Agrus standing still and breathing... I've turned off the music (almost). I call this 'stand-by' mode, as the colossus is active yet isn't moving. Wander even shoots a few arrows but nothing happens!
It's an older video, but not many would have seen this.

This dedication is admirable. The sheer endurance of putting out new, quality content year after year is rare. Most channels just disappear after losing interest. Nomad Colossus just keeps uploading new discoveries. Looking forward to the SotC content in 2024, 2025, 2026 and on!

Happy New Year y'all! I'm still in awe to think this game ran in the old PS2 hardware at all. Some of its animation work in interactivity with bigger creatures are still unmatched by most of all triple-A releases. Not even my current favorite game's sequel, Dragon's Dogma 2 features animations so smooth when climbing the enemies. That game takes a lot from SoTC, so I expected the sequel would look more smooth in that department. And Capcom of all studios out there is generally unmatched when it comes to animation work and rigging. This just serves to show how avant-garde SoTC truly was and still is.

So true. I had played many games on my PS2 before "Shadow Of The Colossus" came along, but nothing matched the thrill & exhilaration I got from playing this game. No matter how many times I explore through the Forbidden Lands, there is always that feeling that something never before seen is just waiting to be found. And 19 years later, there are still new things to see & discover. Simply awesome!

Nomad I love you so much. I recently purchased a PS5 and decided to complete SotC at 100%, I already did that and shed tears of happiness because the PS2 version was the first game I played in my life. It's so amazing to see the community of this game still alive and truly a blessing to have you in it!

Hello Nomad! I have been a long-time fan of Shadow of the Colossus and have just recently gotten back into reading up on every little detail of the game. Your site is incredible and the dedication you show to the work of art by Fumito Ueda is admirable! I have two questions for you and would absolutely love to hear your thoughts on both. My first is if you have seen the illustrations by Ueda which were featured in a special two-pack of Shadow of the Colossus and Ico in Japan. The first depicts the boy and girl from Ico seemingly grown up slightly, and the next shows Mono, Wander, and Agro together in the Forbidden Lands. Wander is a toddler is this art and Mono watches him happily! I have seen this art for the first time recently and it absolutely floored me with hope and closure so I'm interested to hear your thoughts. My second (and bigger) question is why you haven't dove deeper into the PS4 remake? Looking at Nomad's Blog you only have the one post about the remake and that was before it was released. Do you dislike the remake? Do you believe it could do certain things better? Or perhaps do you love it dearly like I do and have simply chosen not to talk too heavily on it? I'd love to hear your thoughts on my questions and I look forward to your posts in the near and distant future. Thank you!

I think we'd all like that. For now though the closest thing we have to a sequel is "Praey For The Gods" which is a very nice spiritual successor that needs more love & a physical release. The game was fully crowd funded & made by 3 dev's over about a 6 year period & you can really tell that they poured there heart & soul into it. They were obviously huge fans of "Shadow Of The Colossus" & it shows.

I've actually had Argus stand perfectly still during a regular match. It's happened a few times but I'm not really sure what causes it. Is it based on certain moves I've made? Perhaps hitting Argus with certain weapons at certain locations on his body causes it? Maybe because Argus chased me into an area of the arena where the glitch has a chance to occur? Just don't know. Has this happened to anyone else? Happy New Year Nomad!
