This is a quote by Mark Twain, but yes it’s absolutely true. ❤ Full quote… “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”

With all due respect to the other places you have lived and experienced, this is the first place I’ve heard you really, REALLY excited to talk about. I know you have your host family there and great memories, but perhaps Jordan is where you are meant to be? My mom traveled to Jordan a few years ago, before she passed away. She absolutely loved it there. The best people, best food, safe, so much culture. So glad you’re enjoying yourself. 💕😊

I am Iranian-American and this was such a wonderful vid! Everything you said is very true- each country in the ME has its own culture and depending on where you are, norms change (as a Persian the taxi/chaotic driving rules are spot-on though LOL). The Middle East is so misrepresented in the media and it's awesome to see someone who loves the culture explain their perspective.❤️

@@taylorwynn 👋 Taylor. Amazing wonderful so educational video here. Thank you so much, and I hope to see more of your videos on traveling and living other places💕 I have a question with the Elf camo powder. You said the shade you used is too dark and it lists it as 150C in your description. The shades are so wonky in this powder foundation, and I typically can wear exactly your shade, or a shade down when we aren’t in the middle of winter. Can you tell me which shades for that powder you can get away with, because they are out of 150c a lot. Are there any other ones that work for you?

As a minority brought up in poverty, the best part was that my mom and her sisters really worked as a community so we always had a lot of people living together in one house all of us kids(maybe 10 or 12) were close in age and we all went to school together. Most of our childhood we were raised together.

I come from a big close-knit family that was also poor growing up… now, we joke about not having electricity then or when the water got shut off. We realize that we were/are rich in a way many people aren’t. We are rich with love and family in our lives. I wouldn’t change that for millions of dollars- and if i had to guess, i bet you would agree 🖤🖤🖤 Thank you for reminding me of that, with your comment, Samantha 🌟🌟

Paused video to look up the word "collectivist culture" because I realized I don't know what that means, and was struck by the fact that my husband's EXTREMELY loyal Mexican co-workers...loyal to their families, but also to my husband as their supervisor...has been a beautiful example of collectivism that I've known about for years and years. Dang this girl manages to set up dates even in the Middle East, go girl! Maybe that guy just did not want to be judged based on his family and doesn’t like that aspect of the culture. As a fellow middle easterner & just in general I think when people date outside their culture sometimes it’s because they are trying to avoid parts of their culture they don’t like. Still totally respect that you took your host family’s advice and called it off though. It’s so nice you are so close to them! Not to sound like a mom (though I am), as someone whose spent all of her twenties and early thirties internationally traveling, the one thing I wish I did more of is buying more art from the various countries’ local artists. It’s a nice memory to put in the future home you create roots in, supports local artist while being fairly less expensive. Choose art you truly admire rather than buying for the sake of buying. There’s usually always a street artist or neighborhood of artists to explore.

My aunt (my mom’s older sister) lived in Amman for most of her life, even though she’s from Jerusalem. We are Armenian and Christian and there is a small population of us there. She passed six years ago but her condo is still there. I never had the chance to visit her. My parents lived all over the Middle East, Lebanon, Jerusalem, Syria (all before 1969). They had a great time but only really stuck to their own culture and religion. They always wanted to come to the US because it was unstable politically. Jordan was definitely one of the more stable middle eastern countries. Being Armenian I have been to Armenia. I’d love to go to Jerusalem one day since my mother is from there, not to mention the historical and religious significance. There is a huge Armenian quarter there in the old city.

I lived in Cairo for a period of time and it was one of the highlights of my life. The people there are so incredibly kind, gracious and lovely. I adored the food, culture and history. I hope you are enjoying your time in Jordan. I wish more people had the opportunity to experience the Middle East

Watching this made me so thankful for my parents who have instilled such a love of travel and exploring different cultures. I was born in Dubai to Indian parents but grew up and currently live in Australia. I’ve also lived in England and hope to move to Spain next year for a complete change. My parents have visited Jordan and it’s definitely on my list! I know that being able to travel is a privilege but I think it should be essential to the human experience

I live in Lebanon and let me tell you, we are definitely misrepresented in the media. Our country is safe, welcoming, beautiful, and definitely unique. I’ve never been to Jordan but I am assuming it’s the same (slightly different culture of course). My sister lives in Saudi Arabia and when she first travelled she was so surprised by how many misconceptions there are about the country. She can dress almost however she wants and goes out wherever she feels like without her husband or any “man”. It is very safe and organized.

The way that you talk about understanding a lot of Arabic but not speaking it as well is exactly my experience with learning Polish for the last few years haha, I relate BIG time. Top 3 hardest languages to learn gang! Also you are so sweet to add the “or partner” pop-in, thanks for being so cool and considerate!

I wish I was in a more family/community-oriented culture and less individualistic culture. People need to consider others more in their actions (not only political and economic policies but also this things like driving) instead of a “me first” mentality which is truly tearing apart the US. People don’t realize that having consideration for others in every area of life actually DOES result in a benefit for you. Also with the high cost of living now, people will have to become more community oriented by sharing homes with friends since noone is able to buy their own home anymore:

Love your vlogs. Bought the sponge you recommended and I loved it. I feel that Americans many times don't know enough about the world. So I love your approach to different cultures. Best baqlawa I tasted was from Jordan

as someone who grew up in a famous place with many world renowned landmarks, we also had the attitude of "why go see it who cares." most of them were places we were forced to go on field trips, if at all. i think its because we all take for granted our homes in a lot of ways.

I think about how different life would be here for young families of the families stayed closer. I mean with for kids my life is so overwhelming some days that I literally get nothing done and often take out frustration on the kids and my husband. I never knew why it was so hard for me until I started understanding that we’re not all supposed to do all this crappy alone. Anyway, other cultures seem to have it right sticking with the strong familial ties. We have been telling our kids for years that we want them close to us on the same property so we can support each other as much as possible

It is so interesting to hear from another westerner who likes the arab culture. I worked as a nurse in Saudi Arabia for 5 years and came to love prayer call. Sometimes I imagine that I hear it drifting thru the window. I really enjoyed my time in Jordan which I traveled to on different occasions. t's really funny how much you don't know about anyone--you like the middle east! Hooray! xo
