@@ZenithintheMaking That's really sad. Shadow was an interesting character. He wasn't really optimistic and peppy like sonic, but possessed a good heart. He cared for his friends, and ultimately did care for sonic and others too. He had a rough life, but just kinda did things his way. He still was a rival to sonic, but respected sonic. Found him abit annoying, but still, as stated, did ultimately care for his safety. Now they're going to make him into a dumbed down Vegeta. That's kind of sad. Amy's character development has been interesting, and it's been nice seeing her mature some. She still likes sonic a whole lot which is great, but she's calmed down and become a little more independant and mature. You'd think with Amy's personality change, they'd want to keep other favorites interesting. I dont look forward to them turning Shadow into a dumbed down Vegeta that just battles sonic for no reason. I hope he turns out ok, somehow.

Shadow skates when he runs ( he has super speed without the jets of course it just looks cool) it's probably not canon but Shadow had other techniques in Sonic Battle. He had the dimensional orb and he also used his jet flames as an attack. Vegeta was tyrannical from the get go pretty much but Shadow gained his hatred for society because G.U.N. killed Maria the person he loves more than anyone or anything. Vegeta doesn't mention a person he admires frequently like Shadow does that's one difference. I only think Sonic could use Chaos Control with the fake emerald Tails created because there were a bunch of games Sonic did not use Chaos Control in. Shadow was born through a genetic science project and the other characters we spoke of were not.

SA2 Shadow (his first and his supposed to be last game) realised that he shouldn't take part in the entire world's destruction because of something that happened 50 years ago, and opted to help because of Amy. ​@4ever EndlessX This is long and autistic, if you don't care don't read it, but it's not an angry ranting response or anything. You're mostly right, it's just some stuff that might make Shadow more appreciated because I really like the Adventure stories and I wanted to drop some lore or something to make it seem a bit more palatable. I first want to clarify that Shadow was actually being basically mind fucked throughout SA2, this is said at the end by Gerald. Gerald controlled his memories and planted fake ones in order to create a perfectly fueled revenge machine. He didn't just assume Maria was a maniac who wanted revenge, he was programmed to believe this and he was programmed to carry out his specific plan that was hatched by Gerald (this is why he knew all that weird stuff about the cannon, it's why he knew what Eggman wanted as soon as he woke up, it's probably how the Ark was programmed to crash into the earth, because Shadow was programmed to go do that which he had ample time to do). This is why the games writer wanted his memory wiped in Heroes, those memories were nothing but illusions (he says this in Sonic Battle about his memories as well, they're just illusions). The Shadow we met from SA2 died finally free from his mission at the ending, and a new Shadow was born and given a second chance in Heroes, free to make new friends (Team Dark, the homies) and free from his programming. Where this goes pear shaped is in Shadow the Hedgehog 2005, where Shiro Maekawa, the creator of Shadow and the writer of SA2, Heroes and Shadow's story in 06, didn't write the game. It was actually written by Takashi Iizuka himself (red flag), and the whole game was a super shallow marketing ploy to draw in an older audience. They wrote Shadow to be this completely out of character shithead who shoots people and swears, simply to turn heads. They butchered the lore and setup of SA2 and Heroes by throwing in stupid aliens or whatever and shitting on the characters. Shiro Maekawa didn't write this and presumably didn't plan for this fully, the ending of Heroes even shows a cliffhanger like scene where Omega and Shadow pick up Metal Sonic, as if they were going to take care of him or something. Heroes also has some stuff hinting that maybe Metal Sonic was the one behind Shadow's revival and the Shadow androids. This is all dropped because Shadow the Hedgehog existed, then 06 was a soft reboot so we lost that story. So we never got to see wacky Shadow, Omega and Metal Sonic adventures. They go together so well and share so many issues, Metal Sonic would have made an awesome friend for them and he could have been a recurring anti hero character (I will forever be in pain because of this). So shadow's character was ruined and that was the interpretation future iterations of Shadow took from for some reason. In Sonic 06 however Shadow is awesome, because he's written by Maekawa again. But after this he's tossed to the wayside like the rest of the cast by Sega, and the writing soon turned to the horrid meta era where everyone was butchered permanently. This is the tragedy of Shadow and the stories of the old games. All of the issues you mentioned with SA2s story are valid, I agree. I know you said outside sources shouldn't count, and you're right. But for the record, all those problems _are_ solved in a single text dump in a Japanese guide book. It's called The Truth of 50 Years Ago, you can read it on Sonic Retro and it explains some lore shit about the Ark raid and mentions the mystery around Shadow's circumstances, it's really cool and from the perspective of Rouge making a report to the President. I know it should just be in the fucking game, it really should have been, but it's something at least. Shiro Maekawa said a fair bit of scenes were cut from SA2's story and he really wanted them in, I always thought maybe those scenes would have explained this shit in game. This text thing and some weird inconsistencies in the Shadow origin actually tie into an original idea for the plot of SA2 that was retconned into oblivion in Shadow 05 (what a shocker eh). This was that Sonic could have been the original ultimate life form, a medical research project created to try and discover immortality (and most importantly to Gerald, cure Maria of her terminal illness, also not explained in the game for some reason). So the huge gap in info when Maria sends Shadow to earth and when he turns up on Prison Island, coupled with Shadow's fake memories, was actually because Sonic was the one on the Ark, he was sent to earth, and Shadow was a weaponized clone made by Gerald at the command of GUN on Prison Island after the fact. This has some holes, and it's thrown away later, but it contextualizes Shadow as a character and his relationship with Sonic and pretty much the whole story is cooler for it. The text thing previously mentioned hints at this at the end and Maekawa kind of soft confirmed it when someone asked him. This is just an example of how cool Maekawa's ideas were and how fucking annoying Shadow 05 is for throwing everything in the bin and saying "fuck you, aliens". I just want to further state that while SA2 definitely should have set up the Shadow story better, he wasn't just the sporadic, edgy, shark jumping mess that he became. He was a lovable red herring kind of character, who you start thinking is just a villain, but later realize he was a good boi who was turned this way by his experiences and the actions of others (a good parallel to Chaos, who had a similar situation and who's story also wasn't properly displayed in game). He was always just a humble and kind servant, someone who was a slave to others wishes. He was kind of made to be this, and it was taken advantage of when Gerald reprogrammed him to carry out his evil. Shadow spends the whole game fighting with his programming, when he saves Rouge he finally goes against his inner voice because deep down he is truly good. Even the lyrics to his level songs, while hard to make out, are actually sung as if it's a voice in Shadow's head talking to him and telling him to do evil and not to disobey. Lyrics from White Jungle include "Shadow, don't make me upset, I don't want to hear you". The real Shadow is fighting against this evil Winter Soldier Shadow in his head, I love that shit. He almost became a monster in the end because of Gerald's insanity, the Biolizard is literally a physical manifestation of what Shadow did not want to allow himself to become. It was a mindless drooling beast that violently destroyed itself in order to carry out it's insane master's wish. Shadow revolts against this in the end and literally fights his demons face to face, with the Biolizard representing them and being the embodiment of Gerald's wrath. I know this is a lot and it's kind of heavy handed for a Sonic platformer, but I don't know. I just think it was really cool and there was a lot of passion put into making it cool, even if it came out a little crusty. I love sincere passion of any kind. Shadow was a highlight of that era of Sonic, and they never went that in on a new character again. Silver literally didn't even have an explanation or a real backstory even though he desperately needed one, Solaris didn't really either. That pissed me off to no end. Like it wouldn't even be hard to make one, I could think it up in two seconds. I just head canon that he is a clone of Shadow made in the future based on Shadow's body they have sealed away thanks to Omega, and he was made as a replacement ultimate life form (which is why he can use Chaos Control and super forms, key abilities of ultimate life forms) to save everyone but he came out fucked with a pot leaf on his head and psychic powers. There, done. Not that hard, but 06 refused to elaborate on him at all and why Blaze was there, so he's super forced, annoying and hard to enjoy. He's also the worst gameplay style, has the Fucking Ball Puzzle™, and has the most notorious boss fight in the game. AND his English voice is almost purposely annoying, it's like they wanted him to be unlikable. His story sucks too (gets tricked by Mephiles with zero evidence because is stupid, then fucks around with Amy for no reason, then Shadow does all the important things, and Blaze does fucking nothing and dies). Silver is an example of how to completely fuck up a new important Sonic character and waste it's potential, Shadow is a good example of how it can be done right, at least for the most part. Sorry this is long and retarded, just wanted to lore dump real quick. TLDR: fuck Shadow 05 and im retard. Edit: I forgot this, but the reason Shadow died at the end was he was inexperienced at using his super form, all his dialogue with Sonic during the final boss sets this up. In Japanese it's far more coherent, with Sonic accepting that despite him warning Shadow, he isn't going to stop even if it kills him because this is his mission and he is willing to die for it. In fact the entire game makes a million times more sense in Japanese because the translation is awful, play SA2 with the mod that adds Windii's subtitles for the Steam version or watch a video with the subs and it makes more sense overall. And I think his rings just fell off because he died or something, or maybe he took them off. The inhibitor ring concept technically wasn't introduced until Sonic X and 06, but I'm pretty sure Maekawa always wanted him to have this functionality or something. I dunno though, Sonic just grabbed the rings afterwards or something I guess.

@@NicholasHamilton1718 Worst of all: It was mandated (and appears to have been since Sonic Boom strangely enough) by SEGA because 1: They felt Shadow would be too OP (They thought he could just hang back and chuck Chaos Spears at zombots and that would immediately resolve the crisis (somehow forgetting that 1: Just because he’s an augmented lifeform that doesn’t stop him from eventually running out of stamina (even if it would take awhile), 2: The zombots can regenerate and morph through small solid objects that have impaled them, and 3: Eggman could probably throw in some badniks or Metal Sonic to distract/delay/occupy him to reduce his effectiveness.) 2: In an “effort” to make Shadow “more appealing” to target demographics, Shadow is to effectively become a dumber version of Dragon Ball’s Vegeta (suicidally prideful, ignores advice and strategy in favor of head-on attacks, and will attempt to kill Sonic for even the most *minor* of reasons (See Sonic Prime’s Shadow where he assaults Sonic for 'making a small earthquake happen' after destroying one of Eggman’s mechs, therefore Sonic is “too dangerous to be left alive”) In fact, this very video is possibly in response to a rumored update to the mandate where Shadow is to no longer consider Rouge and Omega as anything more than annoying acquaintances.
