Shadow work changed my life last year. Still learning and growing and incorporating my shadow. Awesome video. Jung was the genius. So one of mine is betrayal. I always feel like people betray me. When I look at it, I would often betray myself, putting others needs ahead of my own, and even promising myself a reward that I would then somehow not give myself after accomplishing something. So now I am rebuilding my own self trust, and am getting really a lot better at giving myself what I promised and honoring my needs. I was taught it was selfish and unsafe to show up for my own needs but it is not, I have learned that it's actually safer to honor my needs. Very important breakthrough for me.

As an FA I never really struggled with understanding the polarities and mechanisms behind the Anxious partner and them dismissing themselves, but thinking about me being anxiously attached to myself really blew my mind. It is in fact true that I tend to overly stress the importance of being with myself and shunning away others, I did not now until know that there was a pattern within me too. Could you make a video on this, Thais? On how to heal the anxious relationship to self for FA‘s?

Honestly this is the video I needed the most, I think that what I’ve been trying to figure out the past two years is this hidden self I don’t feel I can access. It’s like many parts of me over time have fallen into a shadow so much so I don’t feel like a person.

I also think triggering is where we draw boundaries. Also Shadow work is a continuous process.....I used to think that once you do it you are set for life but I was largely mistaken

So I suppose that the anxiously attached partner would be mirroring frantic emotions which the dismissive avoidant is oblivious to!? I'd love to expand on how this might appear, and how it topically unfolds.

Things that outwardly seem like polar opposites are often just sorta reflections a lot, but in this case or context its better to see the dismissive's behavior and the anxious persons behavior as symptoms of a preexisting condition. That's something my own recent analytical breakdown just epiphanied into again this morning. Shits like a bad onion. I have a lot of anxiety around social stuff at all and it just blows up if I catch feels for anybody. I usually fit more of the FA style though, a dismissive type expression in someone else hits one spot and I act anxious/clingy and an anxious type hits another way and I flee. Sometimes you might be mirroring other people but sometimes you're just mirroring your own insides. These days there is a lot of "encouragement" toward authenticity without really that much like... Instruction or guidance on how to get to that point.

Let's stop using the word attract. It can become a self defeating attitude if we think "attracting" unhealthy relationship dynamics is something out of our control, like our body scent or hair color. A better description would be Chose. Some one may find us desirable for a variety of reason but we chose to engage with them or not. We chose to place our trust in them and to invest our time, emotions and resources in them. We can fall into repetition compulsion unconsciously or we can develop self awareness and chose people who are healthy and safe. Who we are attracted to is either a conscious choice or an unconscious process. Either way it is a choice not fate. We are not doomed to a life of misery because we are fundamentally flawed and attract dangerous or abusive people. Abusive people are looking for anyone they can manipulate or exploit, especially if you have something of value to offer them. You may have a vulnerability they are looking to exploit but if you let them in or involve yourself with them that is your Choice.

I've got an even better idea. How about we just understand and use the word "attract" for what it is, as most people already do. It's that unconscious process, where someone goes out of their way to be around someone, often while the conscious mind believes that this is happening for another reason entirely. Sooner or later we work out that there's chemistry, and at that point we can start investigating such things as shadow work, making choices accordingly. In my opinion, attraction is the most vital, honest and amazing part of the process. So l plan to just keep letting it be what it is!

@@emotophobiccdd8006 Attraction is not part of shadow work. Ditching hippie langue is always a good idea or we can unintentionally create a lot of confusion. There is a lot of jargon and hippie lingo that has made its way into our vernacular. I think we need to make a conscious effort to be more precise or things can get a little blurry. By the way I think what Thais Gibson is doing here is greatly needed and I applaud her efforts. She has made several presentations that I have really enjoyed.

@@michaeljensen4650 o who we're attracted to explains nothing of own shadow??? I must admit that, going by the dictionary definition of "attraction", I still fail to understand why one would say that it in any way at all removes anybody's choice, let alone implies anything to do with fate or doom. To me it merely suggests a state of mind where our own temptations might be tested; so the perfect place for shadow work...as I previously understood shadow work to be! attraction /əˈtrakʃ(ə)n/ noun the action or power of evoking interest in or liking for someone or something. "the timeless attraction of a good tune" a quality or feature that evokes interest, liking, or desire. If there was no attraction...I was thinking that it would be fair to say that there'd be no choice to make in the first place, because there'd be no reason for relating! Do you think that maybe it's time to embrace your inner hippie?
