I am subscribed, even though I don't play the game anymore. In fact, I have gone from a regular PC gamer to a casual gamer, and not exclusively PC. I have gotten bored of my favourite games, only using what still rules my mind as a means of distracting myself from the time I have nothing to do in. I really need a new hobbie lol I am subscribed to so many channels whose videos I watch but the games they are playing aren't what I care about anymore, I care about visuals and knowledge, so, basically the definition of watching TV.

Both the Rapier and Nerva engine exist in real life.. sort of Most engines been nerfed int he game. But the Nerva engine and the rapier (called sabre in real life) have been nerfed the most. Mostly the thrust to weight have been reduced from the real life 8.8 to only 2 in KSP. The atm performance have been nefed even more. The ISP of the real one was about 875. Later model had even better performance with a ISP of about 1000. (theoretically, it was never test fired) For the Rapier/Sabre they kind of revresed the data. In real life its more power full in space than sea level. With a Thrust to weight ratio of 14 at sea level and 22 in space. (about twice as in the game) and the ISP for the real life one is 460, so quite a lot more than in the game. There is two major problem with building this plane in real life. The real engines need Hydrogen to work. They can´t work on Jet-A (as in KSP). Hydrogen got 1/4 the density. so the tanks need to be huge. The other issue is that KSP is 1/10 real life size. A real plane would need having a lot more delta-V to get to space........

@Fireheart3187 жыл бұрын
WOAH! I LOVE what you did with the tail/engine shroud!
@kaizer00027 жыл бұрын
Been working on my own SSTA for a while, your's gave me a few ideas. Not sure why you put the lift behind the center of mass, but I've been making a few tweaks through playtesting (adding fly by wire to the nose so I can fly a scientist around, shedding some weight, thinking of adding more radiators). Still, it beats my solution - using xenon gas for 1 hour maneuver burns and sending gas station miners in advance of it.
@MrBirdnose7 жыл бұрын
Putting the center of mass ahead of the center of lift is a basic requirement for pitch stability. In that configuration either the horizontal stabilizer is holding the tail down, or the canard is holding the nose up. As you slow, the canard or tail loses effectiveness faster than the main wing, so the aircraft automatically tends to pitch down to regain speed; as you gain speed, the tail or canard generates more force and pitches the plane up to slow it again. If you put the center of mass behind the center of lift, now the horizontal stabilizer is holding the tail up...so as the plane slows, the tail lowers, and the plane loses even more speed -- making it unstable in pitch. In extreme cases, it may enter a "deep stall" where you have low airspeed, and can't get the nose down to get enough airflow over the wings to start flying again. It may also go into unrecoverable flat spins. In real planes calculating the center of gravity is part of preflight checks, and the manual will state a range it has to be in.
@Zamolxes774 жыл бұрын
4:20 For take off in these cases, I usually mount 2-4 unidirectional monoprop or vernor engines next to the front wheel hub, activate RCS, lift the plane on his tail or as far as it would go, then blast off main engines at full throttle, then turn off RCS. Works like a charm, 4 vernor engines were enough to lift my 68 tons SSTO in correct attitude, on the Mun.

I made an SSTO today which, once refueled at minmus has about 4km/s deltaV. You've just given me a pretty good idea of what to try to do with it... Needs a little work though because it's only 4km/s if I ditch the refinery after using it on minmus which wouldn't work here.

Being stuck in a Mk1 cockpit is better than just a command chair! XD But the nearest thing I've made to an SSTA goes in the opposite direction. It sacrifices high gravity capability in favour of crew comfort. With 14 seats for a crew of 4, it can launch from any of the smaller moons and planets. It's got 2 "orange tanks" for fuel capacity, and takes quite a while to fill itself. I wasn't thinking "SSTA"; I hadn't even heard the term when I built it. I was thinking "independence"; essentially a mobile home in which to escape the chains of society and government. EDIT: It only takes a long time to fill when uncrewed - about a Kerbin year. With 2 max-level engineers on board, I think it takes less than 2 Kerbin weeks. I had to land in the dark, once. Because I was nervous, I flew over hundreds of kilometers of relatively flat plains and crashed into a lovely hill at the end! XD Nobody died, but the ship -- a long string of Mk2 parts -- bent into the funniest shape.

I have a SSTO ship program that can get anywere too, the ship is extremely efficient I get about 8k Delta V after mining on either minmus or gilly (it can leave kerbin and maneuver out of it if no cargo is on board) The ship was called journeyman because i only use them on my main account, about 4 presets for the same ship (a cargo ssto that can launch a 8-12 ton cargo if you mine minmus, a science space plane that uses a science bay inside the cargo bay (6 ton total), a blank preset that has no cargo bay at all, it has a crew tank instead, i used it on rescue missions (i don't like to F5 all the time, it makes ksp a lot easier :c) so i don't have to pay new crew if i manage to strand someone c': and the one i never use, a have-it-all space plane that launches with a full ore tank and a set of solid fuel b's I love ksp! :D

A proper use of the Oberth Effect would be doing a maneuver from Mun orbit to lower your Periapsis to 71km and then burning at peri to eject to Duna. There's some math behind it, basically the faster you go the higher your effective ISP and therefore efficiency.

Trajectory can account for AoA, but only if you tell it to and give it the angle itself.
@ShadowZone7 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I didn't know that before. Thank you!
@erumaaro60607 жыл бұрын
to be fair, ive practicly never used it and its not 100% accurate as it assumes that the AoA stays constant. So if you are performing an aerobrake at an angle that isnt stable aerodynamicly, well, a little wobble here, a little wobble there and you miss the runway and get a close encounter with rapid unplanned dissasembly...

In order to use the Oberth effect with Duna, you first need not to slow down into a low orbit. You lose all the advantages of the Oberth effect when you slow down. The Oberth effect happens when you burn at the fastest possible point in your orbit. At periapsis.
