This is how you make good squash casserole!.. So close to my mom's recipe (just different cheeses and spices..).. but you can do that with this.. just like she says!.. I’m 72 and my Mom was like you in the kitchen and she would throw stuff together , add simple spices and it would turn out fit for a Kings table! I keep my juice after it's cooked. if there's any left over, the next day I will add the juice back in with it. so that it's not dry when I heat it up. It gives it a good flavor.

It's been a while since I made squash casserole, so looked yours up on here. This is a good one, but I used zucchini & yellow squash together... I've gotten so much from my garden this year! I had to use the closed caption as my hubby was watching TV & got tickled at the way the person who wrote out your words spelled things!! They must have had a time translating your southern accent... lol I made this many moons ago & glad to have you to refresh my memory... I'm 73 yrs God Bless

I have grown every possible summer squash in my garden. Straight neck, crooked neck, black beauties and Mexican gray. They are all interchangeable and delicious. They are all beautiful to look at. This recipe here is the standard. I love your comparison to mac n cheese. Healthier but just as good!

I did do one thing different. i had some old nasty squash I forgot to use in the garden I felt bad about wasting. I just cut them up and cooked and omg, they're tender! They're ready to go. It was past using, really. I had to cut off the hard outer part because it was hard as a rock. I kept cutting til I got to the meat. It worked. I did have a few decent ones too. Thanks I like the tangy taste of the sourcream, and the garlic adds flavor for me.
