Intense. This guy gets it. This is what authenticity looks and sounds like.

You know I have thought about this in the past. Today many think of Shakespeare as high culture, and he is. However we do forget that he was the equivalent of an action hero in his day. Battles. Vengeance. War. Even ghost stories are all over his work. Plenty of people get stabbed in Romeo and Juliet. Henry V would have been seen as an action packed war movie like Saving Private Ryan.

I am from England. He actually has a good reading style. And remember that you cannot know your language until you know Shakespeare. He is yours as much as ours. As was Henry V if you want him to be, and believe me you would. The Ultimate Warrior!

@@greedminds sort of... the entire first half of his carreer, (so about 15 years) he wrote in French and Italian. But yeah... i thought you were totally wrong. You weren't. I looked it up on the interwebs. My bad

When Staff Sergeant Eversman of the Battle of Mogadishu spoke at St. Thomas years ago, he also quoted this and explained its significance. That was awesome. Great passage.

Henry VI 1.4.571, Talbot: (to the French forces) "Your hearts I'll stamp out with my horse's heels, And make a quagmire of your mingled brains." Shakespeare *is* badass.

I used to make my recruits read this once a cycle, then we’d talk about what it meant to them, when I was a Drill Sergeant. I read it for myself every Veterans Day, but it hit a little different, a little deeper this year. I just retired this year, so it’s the first time after hanging the uniform up.

As a Brit I have to say, Spot on, more authentic in its delivery than the poncey versions we see on stage or screen. Henry was a warrior and a driven one of rare talents and abilities. Jockos’ delivery is as close an approximation as we are likely to get to the spirit and character of one our most talented battlefield commanders. (Your history too yanks! & it seems that you have a good handle on it)

This is pretty close to how I thought this famous speech should sound. I often thought it would lie somewhere between a madman and a Football coach before the grand final. I don't think it would be flouncy like Kenneth's or soft like others. Don't take the words "My brother" coming from the king, lightly. "For he today that shed's his blood with me shall be MY brother." That's huge. Imagine hearing that. Nice job, Jocko. I think, mix this with that bloke in times square and it's there.

To be fair, those were based solely on the Shakespeare play, so it made sense to say it how they did. Jocko is giving us an idea of the way Henry would have actually used the language when addressing troops before battle, if the speech is accurate for what was really said.
