Thank you for pushing back on that comment. My creds are as good as any of you, having been with McLaughlin since In A Silent Way, ok I was 14 - but very with it. And on top of MVO and Shakti at the time they released. Anyways Lol - I was at the Seattle concert on Sept 6. Of course I love L Shankar. And Ganesh was marvelous. Absolutely marvelous.

Mumbai is business. Delhi is Politics, while Kolkata is about culture. What better place to have this concert. Its hard to believe that John started his collaboration with top class Indian classical musicians over 50 years ago. I don't think of Shakti as a band, its more of another genre of beautiful music.

There's also a place called Chennai... or Madras for oldtimers... which is home to one of the biggest classical music festivals in the world. And home to a good number of artistes who have made Shakti famous over 50 years. Why is this city being ignored?

I also was lucky enough to see the original band repeatedly when the first albums cam out, Mahadevan has to be the most skilled vocalists on the planet, (along with Thjis Van Leer of Focus) and its magic watching him and Zakir stop on a dime. I have been a drummer all my life, but their language of rhythm just completely confounds me. I'll leave it to the masters and just listen.

listening to the video with headphones shows that the sound in the event room has a lot of reverberation and the capture would have to be directly from the venue table. That way we would better appreciate the judicabands, the predominant brand in the group. A pity, but it serves as a record

Amazing virtuosity. Great artists. Nice attempt to meld North Indian Classical, Carnatic and Jazz, three genres of music that I love. But with the greatest due respect, may I candidly say that this lacks the emotionality that I feel in any of those three great genres. The melding here is not creating anything that I love here. The percussion solos are the best part for me. Just one person's subjective non expert opinion.
