I wrote this comment on Jeff Avenue’s reaction to my vid, and I thought it was important enough to repost: Ballet is an almost spiritual art form, and those who are serious about it consider it to be life. Without dance there is no life. Dance isn't necessarily something you enjoy all the time, but you need to do it. It's like breathing. Perhaps there is a similar sentiment in urban dance/hip-hop/kpop dance. The body is also seen as your most intimate instrument. Some people use tubas or oboes, objects as instruments. A dancer's body is their own self. There is something very intimate about that. My analysis of the condition of his body is based on what I've seen in the ballet world. Dancers put superficial aesthetics over function and safety, which ruins their bodies over time. Hyper-mobility is prized in ballet as an aesthetic ideal, but it makes you remarkably weak and unstable. The dancers who have it are put on a pedestal, and all other dancers want to emulate them, so they push their bodies to limit in order to achieve the ideal. This is the same thing I see Taeyong doing: aesthetics over safety. The long term-cost of this (at least in the ballet world) are joint replacements, chronic pain, loss of the ability to walk properly, etc. That's not fun to have for the rest of your life. The analysis was also based on my own experience with injury. I also have hyper-mobility, and I've had my fair share of injuries (although all were, thankfully, not terribly debilitating). Every time I got injured, I would enter a period of questioning. I would feel betrayed by my body. My most intimate instrument was no longer functional. My link to life was gone. There is a kind of terror that comes with this. An existential terror. No one should have to endure that, Taeyong or anybody else. I know what it's like. It's as if the rug were pulled out from under you. I don't want that for Taeyong. When I first started watching Kpop, I would see these kids' bodies and how they moved and I always thought to myself "Well, that's not gonna last long." Taeyong was one of them. I thought, "Well, someone has to say something about it" because no one else is talking about it. If there is only one person saying that something is wrong, that person is usually seen as crazy. I know the costs of speaking up, but I have to do it. I have an obligation as a fellow dancer. The longer I stay in this kpop world, the more I see people like Taeyong as peers instead of idols. I think Taeyong should take a few notes from Haechan, honestly. Taeyong also seems to find artistic fulfillment in music production. If his dance career ends, he always has music. But I still worry because Taeyong isn't as much a musician as he is an all around performer. Only time will tell, and I hope to God I'm wrong about everything. Side note on pantomime: Pantomime is the explicit acting out of a concept or action. A gesture always has a specific meaning that never changes. I know some other idols kind of allude to things in their lyrics, but pantomime is not alluding to something. It is the literal acting out of something. It is it's own visual language. Taeyong isn't doing *true* pantomime, but it's pretty close for something that's not ballet.

cyninshadows ok first of all she has in no way stated that she is an “expert,” nor has she claimed to be a medical professional. she is pointing things out and stating her opinions based on her own experiences, which she has already specified. she is not directly addressing ty nor is she demanding that he heed her suggestions. secondly, she’s really not wrong. as a fellow dancer i too have seen many idols, not just ty, do things that made me to ooh that’s not good. i also have hypermobility and my teachers are constantly advising us on how to may more attention to it because it can lead to injury more easily. my arms are the worst and i’ve strained ligaments in my elbow area many many times over the years. and about your haechan comment, he has a very different dance background than taeyong. while it may not always be the case, there are certainly areas where his technique is better and his movements are safer. also, neither age nor amount of injuries really factors much into this argument. dancers get injured all the time. injuries often happen when you least expect them too. i’ve witnessed that more than once, with my peers and myself. ty could’ve easily been injured without us knowing. the break that he’s taking right now (for health reasons, may i add) is the first he’s had since DEBUT. considering how hard he works, he really should’ve had one sooner. anyway i think that overall you are both worried about him, but i really wouldn’t ever classify this video as hateful or damaging. of course NONE of us know how he would react should he see it, but it’s also really clear that she praises him and knows he’s on another level as a dancer, performer, and artist in general.

i@@cyninshadows7041 You are letting your emotion talks over senses. Before this video was ever published, the fandom has complained about SM giving their dancers dangerous choreography, especially Taeyong who is always in charge of the impressive/dangerous move. Lee Soo Man is not a god. His success and SM's success is built on the break of many, many idols. Remember Shinhwa? They were famous for manly and bold choreography and a lot of injuries in their 20s. They've been struggling with chronic back and hip problems since their 30s, which means a lot of pain for the rest of their life. They can barely dance now. You wouldn't know when your artists are taking painkillers to perform, so please don't talk as if the Kpop industry is a pink bubble and our idols are guaranteed to be safe and healthy for the next few decades. When you stated how TY has progressed with music all you're saying is that he might be a good musician in the future. However, given the fact that he has been dancing almost all his life and he is such an accomplished dancer, will he be satisfied with being only able to make music? That's the real question here and that's the reason why we wants him to preserve his health, so that he can still dance when he wants in his 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s, and even longer. The part about Haechan's advice, have you even watched the previous video about Haechan or are you just attacking based on what you like? Raindrop made a clear argument before (with concrete evidence) that Haechan dances more efficiently compared to other members. His age and the injury he sufferred from have nothing to do with his ability to dance efficiently. The fact that NCT is a group comprised of dancers with different strengths means they can benefit a lot by learning from each other. It's very similar in figure skating training club, in which coaches would tell their skaters to learn from the fellow rinkmates' strengths. Last but not least, artists are actually not medical experts too. So it's possible that Taeyong does not know his body well enough to avoid all the possible risk, or he knows, but he may endure and ignore the problems because there's no time to fix established habits and he can't refuse schedule. Lady Gaga endured horrible pain for years on the stage before she found out she has fibromyalgia. Artists may always seem normal, contended and happy to you, doing what they like, that's the image that entertainment companies are selling to you. You never know until it's too late. SM already have those cases. Fans who feel attacked by this video might need to smack some senses into their heads. This is observation and analysis from a fan about how TY is fucking good at dancing and a few potential risks/bad habits that TY might be facing as a dancer that can inhibit his artisic development in the long-run. This is not "oh my god this is bad TY is dying he's doing everything wrong".

Alright peeps, listen up: 1) I couldn't find the music I wanted, so I decided to make my own. I made a little mashup for the first 2 minutes, which is something I've never done before, SO YOU ALL BETTER BE PROUD OF ME. 2) I'm honestly so drained from making this video that I really don't know what to feel about it. Part 1 and 2 together is the biggest project I've made so far and the most stressful and draining. I first had the idea for it last summer, but I couldn't work on it for 9 months because of school. It was something that always weighed on my mind because I felt like I let everyone down by not putting out content, but I couldn't do anything about it. This end result is FAR different from how I envisioned it and how it was first constructed. I'm just glad it's over now. 3) I care deeply about Taeyong as an individual and an artist. I understand the journey that he is going through. I know what it's like to claw and scrape your way towards some semblance of competence in your art form. From one dancer to another. I feel this way about all the NCT boys. I care deeply for all of them. These videos are my love letters to each of them. They are also my way of thanking them. I mean this. 4) The grievances I have with urban dance have to do with the fact that it does not offer its dancers a way to mitigate the forces of gravity. This is what leads to injury and pain as you get older. Most (ballet) dancers reach artistic maturity in their 40's+. We want to keep Taeyong as injury free as possible. There is no reason he should stop dancing past his 30's-40's. 5) Taeyong doesn't use true ballet pantomime because ballet pantomime is not danced. Pantomime is a sequence of very clear and specific gestures, and each gesture has it's own meaning, like everyone word has a meaning. I know some other groups like Seventeen use gesture in their choreography (sign language), but this isn't quite the same as pantomime because they're gesturing is more of an allusion. When someone does pantomime in ballet, they take the time to clearly act everything out, pretty much like how you would see a mime do it. I take particular interest in how Taeyong does mime because the way in which he does it is fairly clear, and he has taken the initiative to incorporate it into his dancing, which shows that he is starting to thinking deeply about his art form. Not every main dancer does this. 6) If you're interested in watching Swan Lake because of this video or you just want to know what I'm talking about when it comes to pantomime, I highly recommend you watch this video first: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJeYk6SdfLmnhq8 This is taken from the Ratmansky reconstruction, which is more faithful to the original Imperial Russian staging. This is REAL mime, not some bastardized, abstract gesturing or mannerisms. This has substance. Whatever you do, do not watch a Russian production of Swan Lake as your first Swan Lake. I love the Russians, but they cut pantomime out of their vocabulary a long time ago. Pantomime is integral to so many classic ballets. 7) KZbin won't allow me to make money off my hard work. If you find this content valuable and would like to support what I do, please consider giving a donation :) No obligation, of course. Just a suggestion. paypal.me/nkt2?locale.x=en_US 8) Thank you all for watching!

time out, trish, you said "SM instructors are all he has...for guidance." I do see this differently cause I worked for a Performance Arts school & that is why I have great appreciation for what SM does. They DO enlist the most able instructors in the industry. NCT Taeyong is the ultimate proof of that. So I'd ask you to LOOK what THEY made out of Taeyong's "no formal training" Is THAT not astonishing...enough? And SM did not just train Taeyong's body. They also adjusted his attitude, induced his drive, informed his aesthetic & shaped his...artist's mind. That IS formal training...much more...that is igniting & investing in...A Superstar. Do NCTzen really think SM will stand aside and LET Lee Taeyong..burn out? DO kpop fans even know (they don't) that Neo Culture Technology is the BRAND NAME of the exclusive state of the art SYSTEM perfected by Lee Sooman over his 25 years of scouting, recruiting, casting, evaluating & training artists then assembling them into high concept groups & styling, presenting, promoting & managing that "talent" for HIS company...SMEntertainment? Fans constantly drag & second guess SM over methods we don't like or fully understand, but we would not even HAVE kpop on THIS level without SM. BoA, SuperJunior, TVXQ!, SHINee, EXO...SupeM...have not just been...good luck...any one of those groups is stunning & ground breaking and they ALL stay at the top of their game...for years. In 2016 Sooman announced the NCT franchise, it's system & subunits, as SM'a crowning achievement built upon the sparkling successes (also tragic failures) of ALL the SM artist who have gone before them, mindful that...two of them...did not survive stardom. SO the cornerstone of NeoCultureTechnology in THIS group is putting a support system in place to KEEP idols as healthy happy safe...and sane...as is reasonably possible in an industry AS demanding & merciless...as Kpop. Taeyong could not...have...better guidance than SM & Lee Sooman. And he knows it.

We've seen him be unable to walk off stage on his own, in neck braces, buying bandages and other first aid, getting massages backstage seemingly out of nowhere--- his body is clearly already suffering from this, and SM keeps adding more onto his schedule and telling him to do it again. Taeyong is my favorite performer in kpop to watch--- but he's also my least favorite to watch--- because I just know all those rushes from all those brushes with danger are coming at a heavy price.

as a dancer something i noticed especially about taeyong is how he uses his head and eyes. rather than looking like he's thinking of what comes next in the choreography he looks completely in the moment as though the choreography doesn't exist and it's just his body creating the steps. and seeing him next to a lot of other idols/dancers u can see that rather than being stuck in the habit of looking at himself in the mirror and or focusing on one spot (spotting) while doing a move he allows his head and eyes even to follow the natural flow of the movement which with ballet you can't always do cause u don't want to fall over after doing a million turns but with the style of dance taeyong does it seems like he can let his head become just another part of the whole movement. it's all so fluid and this video gave me literal c h i l l s this is amazing and the editing deserves a whole oscar

this second part is REALLY informative. i am really amazed by your story-telling ability and your ability to explain complex things in a simple manner! i figured despite taeyong being a dramatic dancer, one thing that bugs my mind whenever i watch him dance (which resulted in me thinking it’s very uneasy to watch him dancing- and this is personal) is due to that ligament part. i too noticed that he sometimes went too far, and believe me when i said my face cringed terribly when i reached the cherry bomb point. ugh for the love of God, i can only pray for the best. this video really explains things i never knew about dancing but can’t help but notice them subconsciously. it really makes me appreciate each and every members (that you’ve reviewed) more. taeyong is indeed amazing. on a side note, i truly hope there is a way you can get monetized. the amount of hard work being put on creating each videos in this series is insane. thank you for your hard work.

I'm sry to hear that, it must have been really hard for you. While I agree with everything you said, and I do hope for the best for ma boi 100% always. We also must remember that we can not for 100% certainty (or at all tbh) diagnose anyone based on videos. 1 we're not doctors, 2 we haven't met him and talked about his medical history and so on. 3. If he have stuff he's probably well aware of it and sm have doctors is they need them. I'm sure he's fine. SM wouldn't fail to take care of their golden boy, they would lose way to much money if he got seriously injured for a long time. But as far as I know no SM Artists have ever hurt themselves thaaaat bad in that type of way.(not more than any other company) I think they know what they're doing, this isn't their first rodeo. I also have hyper mobility. But I don't have issues with joints and such, they never feel like they will pop or anything like that. It's individual on how sever the condition is. He might just be like me, no real pain or issues but also very flexible.. either way I wouldn't worry about too much 💚
@MelMoui4 жыл бұрын
It is not only an SM thing, the industry they're in is not known for rest. TY alongside lot of main dancers strives for perfection in his art. But I really hope you're right ! The things is that injuries can be really small so we tend to disregard them ourselves but it still damages the body. And as you train every day, every little injury ads to the others.
@loveitftw4 жыл бұрын
@@MelMoui yeah unfortunately, but I hope things get a little easier for them as time move on. There are huge differences already if we look at how idols where treated 10 years ago and such. So it have faith that everything improves bit by bit. Yeah you're right, the body can take damage and wear itself out with age and if one doesn't take care of it properly, then for us it might be a little faster than the normal human body. But he's still very young, when maybe he hits his 40's it might be a little harder to go hard though. ^^ I for one trained and completed in Judo most of my life and me with no chill was really competitive so I trained really hard. If ya know about the sport you might know that most people eventually really fuckes up their knees bc of the constant close contact on the floor, and some might have to do some surgeries even if you don't have any hyper mobility problems. I'm a slippery sun of a bish lol and can bend quite much which people might think will pop a shoulder or summit, so escaping grips was good lol, but I never got that issue though with ma knees or anything else(thank God lol) for being in a very high league at the time. About 10 years later and I don't have any problems more than anyone else haha. I have faith that he, his family, staff and friends take care of him and won't let shit lose control and I don't think he's that stupid to push it immensely if he's starting to feel like his body might break, even if he's a workaholic perfectionist. We can be glad that the choreo has 'calmed down' a bit, cherry bomb isn't their main stuff anymore and such ^^ like he don't do that freaky stuff anymore on the regular. I'm slightly more worried about kick it and mark jumping on his knee :') that shit can go really wrong real fast if he's not stable when mark does that. But again I'll hope they know what they're doing. Professionals and all that 👌 Lol sry for the long ass text, I think it was fun to talk about it ^^

I've been meaning to comment for a few days and Jeff Avenue's reaction to your Haechan analysis brought me here at last. I can see how much your analyses have developed since Haechan's. This video is art from the very beginning and I was kind of in awe of how you grabbed our attention so beautifully and dramatically... I felt like I was truly watching an educational video on dance as an art form by a true professional. It was quite beautiful... it's really appropriate for Taeyong because you describe his technique as going into a character you call 'the madman.' Taeyong's dance style is fascinating. I did comment on your videos before and I said I love speed and fluidity when they dance, and you told me there is much more than speed when it comes to dance and what makes it powerful and engaging, what makes it art (this was 3 months or so ago now so feel free to correct me if I've totally misquoted you). I see it. He has character and method... My feelings as the observer: I love his character because to me it is very... psychological. Almost dark. I love things that are psychological and that question sense of 'self.' Ego. Even liberation... liberation is a theme I often go into in writing. Ego and liberation, wanting to break out. And breaking out often means accepting and embracing inner darkness. When I watch Taeyong's performance character, it's like he goes into an alternate ego for the dance. It's not always dark - sometimes it's very beautiful like Paris in the Rain (if you find my comment before on Haechan's or Yuta's you'll see me praising PITR hahah). But oftentimes it's quite intense. Which I guess is why people think he's scary. But I have noticed something: sometimes when the song ends, or even sometimes in the middle of a song, his character will break on his face, and his eyes will widen. Then he looks very fragile and soft and vulnerable. A huge contrast to the madman he was before. I'm not sure how Taeyong finds this character to embody on stage... how he embraces all the chaos of the mind and performs. Maybe it is empowering. Because I have no doubt at all that Taeyong is a sensitive man. Perhaps he's as interested in liberation psychology as I am. (I've always been quite inhibited.) I say this as someone who has never danced ever; I assume it can be very liberating to dance. Maybe when he's dancing, he feels more free, and can temporarily leave his own troubles and embody something else. I've never experienced dancing. So I don't know. This is maybe a negative thing to bring up but recently I saw comments that said Taeyong is overrated by SM and the company's favourite because he looks identical to a former idol. That he wasn't center-worthy or worthy of special attention brought to him. I feel like this video slaps that in its face, because Taeyong is obviously a gem, one of SM's greatest treasures and assets, maybe one of the best dancers the company's ever had? His potential is enormous. He's really interesting to watch. I hope he can take care of his body and continue being a dancer for decades. I would think with all the training and choreographers that they work with over the years, someone would bring up taking care of the body so the instrument doesn't break. If not, Taeyong learned this somewhere, so I hope he'll be teaching himself how to take care, use his body the best he can while also keeping it protected. Our Bubu is very precious. And your love letters are so beautiful and necessary to show the world how talented and amazing NCT are. There are people who reduce them (probably all kpop groups) to pretty men. Thank you for throwing out to the world your knowledge of dance and art so the world can better appreciate the idols. I really really hope your videos spread. I want them to be shared a lot. This reminds me of when the other members would mention how they become worried about Taeyong because he tends to push himself so hard in dance. When I first heard that I thought it was admirable. I felt it was more like he was working hard and that's great to see ambition in an artist. But now with your insight, it seems like he's breaking his body down instead and the other members are worried about how long Taeyong will last as a result. They worry about him as older and younger members...I can't imagine the feeling having to see that day after day after day. If I cared about him, I would be worried sick and try as hard as I could to change the choreography so Taeyong wouldn't hurt himself. The problem is with how competitive the Korean music industry is, it has to push and defy what's even healthy. NCT has to stay competitive, so I don't see it changing.

rewatching this after TY's injury break at the end of the worst year ever TY, please, you don't have to cross every boundry! When it comes to your body sometimes it's better to stay in your comfrot zone.

this video is probably my favorite of yours yet. the way you structure and format each video feels like its own story in and of itself, especially this one, where i felt like you really connected to taeyong’s experience as a performer and emphasized that fact. the way you use music and footage is just straight up gorgeous from an artistic perspective (the intro??? ART. the section with end to start???? GODDAMN ART, BRO. seriously, you’ve got real skill in visual art, as im sure you’re just as skilled in performance). as someone very interested in film and video art, your works always grab my attention, not only from a genuinely educational perspective (which is already valuable enough in this fandom), but from the artistic composition of your videos too. i was really impressed with this two part coverage of taeyong, and i found myself checking your channel periodically to see if part two had been put out yet out of pure excitement! i found it really fascinating seeing your points about taeyong as not only a skilled dancer, but a full blown separate character when he performs. it makes total sense in hindsight why i could never take my eyes off him when watching most stages as a baby nctzen! i really do hope that this video makes its way to him at some point, same for your videos on the rest of the members so far. not only are they just very pleasing to the eye and ear, but i think especially in this video your advice on sustainability is really valuable to keep someone like taeyong able to create more art for years to come. i’ll definitely be trying to chip in some to help fuel your work, because *damn* dude, you’ve got a gift, and lots of great information to share from your perspective. hope you’re staying safe and healthy, and thanks as always for sharing this with us!

I gotta admit this, I still can't believe Taeyong existed in this era. I mean there are a lot of talented dancers in kpop but something about Taeyong draws you in whenever you see him perform. Your eyes just can't help but follow him wherever he goes. He is very enticing to watch with the way he moves his whole body upto his expression. It's like he's in a zone the moment he step foot on stage. TAEYONG IS AN ARTIST. HE'S THE REAL DEAL.

This part was so informative, I absolutely love the way you explain a lot of foreign themes for people who have no background in dancing and performing like me. Your story telling skills are no joke ! Also, the editing !!! Everything is so beautifuly crafted, I really love the way you did the first 2 mins, I enjoyed it so much, it's so good !!! I'm downloading it aaa. Love the way you pair audio and visuals, the way you overlap the music with the voices !! Such an outstanding work with high quality, so pleasing to see !!! Your video is a whole experience and everything is really well put together. Thank you for your insights on these themes and your hard work !! I wish you the best and hope your work is appreciated, much love ❤️

I don't know why you stopped uploading but i really hope you come back not for the sake of analyzing idol dancers but for the sake of education and correcting misconceptions about dance in general.... I learnt a lot by just watching your analysis videos of NCT. I know nothing about dance nor performance in general and tbh i kinda underestimated it but after seeing your videos i'm shocked.. in a good way.... I thank you very much for opening my eyes to the beautiful art of dance and i sincerely hope you come back and teach us more

Im a big fan of a lot of boy groups, and although I have my favorite I learned to love them as a whole, all Included and Im really serious about fairness, I think they all should have equal opportunity to be main, with that I started to notice how Taeyong is center so often. Hes frequently the center, gets a lot of first camera focus and last on stages, and pretty much starts all intro to songs... But as I payed closer attention, at some point I notice the reason, it isn't about being fair, is about ability, and he has a lot of that. He can single handed hold a performance even tho the stage is full with his members. They are all important, just as Taeyong, the difference is that Taeyong took the responsibility and also has the capability to be their wall. Its not even about being leader, he is their performance force. Their core. It's pretty freaking amazing.

Thank you for continuing to make this series! I've always found it hard to focus on the other members when Taeyong takes the centre position and your analysis of his onstage persona as the madman flipped a switch in my head. I finally understand why it's so appealing to watch him dance. The element of unconscious self-destruction probably plays a role in his appeal as a dancer although lacking practicality and efficiency is obviously not going to fare well in the long run. Hopefully, he gets better at taking care of himself.

The end part made me teary eyed. taeyong really loves dancing. He is one with it. To actually realize he might lose this ability is insane. He’s such a hard worker and a lot of people tend to overlook that because of his visuals. I hope he takes care of his body and don’t stress too much. I love him so much that I can’t imagine him not doing what he loves. I really hope Taeyong see this.
