Tbf the placebo effect can be really strong. Used in combination with actual evidence-based medicine, it can absolutely help healing a lot even if it just provides some anxiety relief/peace of mind. Not to mention most over-the-counter cold medicine is basically a placebo (don't buy phenylephrine based cold medicine if you want it to actually do something. It might work for other stuff, just not as a decongestant)
