Yes! Shane Jones has a common sense approach to developing our minerals. Let's also put a portion of the royalties into the New Zealand Superfund , which will benefit every Kiwi.

Look up the kiwi saver parameters in the state pension act. When the state contribution for the state pension (trust capital) drops below (certain figure); then, the gvt gets to "steal" the capital (@56 billion) from the state pension fund (trust fund).

Parliament should be the highest court in the land, not quangos, not tribunals. Human rights protect the individual against the state not minority groups. Go Shane.

Given our resources NZ should aim to be self sufficient and eventually a net exporter of energy.

insightful words there from Shane Jones. he seems to be the only politician who understands that the world is becoming more unstable and reshoring the supply of critical materials is paramount.

Switcheroo. Selling minerals and at the same time locking kiwi equity to US securities commission/Vatican. We are a corporation being asset stripped? Inalienable rights are being put to extinction.

Its the clean up from mining that matters. The US is littered with so many abandoned toxic towns. The environmental poisoning is ongoing after mining ends. Are there laws for clean up in NZ? Probably not, that's just an externality the public has to reckon with.

God has provided all the natural resources that we as people, created in His Image and Likeness, may use in order to benefit not only ourselves, but also others throughout the world who may have " need" of these in order to survive. As a result of our Father Adam falling into sin, the whole of God's creation has also fallen hence the reason why we now have to shed blood, sweat, and even tears in order to reach these resources and use them as GOD has ordained. God Bless Shane Jones ----= go for it Shane, whether you believe it or not, you are a person whom God has given HIS vision and understanding with regards this challenge. One day everything will " go up in smoke" as God has decreed that the current heavens and earth as we see and know it will literally " go up in smoke " to be replaced with a new heavens and a new earth. Again, in the mean time, God has given us HIS approval to do all we can to mange and use all these resources as you have stated ie in order that we as a nation and as a people might benefit and live, and at the same time use any " overflow" to benefit others around the world who might have a need that we can supply to them. Impossible to have a fair and balanced position on mining unless the full position is laid out. -What is the expected tax and royalties? -What is the expected damage and cleanup cost? I agree that this needs to include a 'modifier' to assess the impact of importing minerals etc. Some projects might be great but others not so much...but we NEVER get the full picture. For the record an uncle of mine from Australia was one of the first to seek rights to mine ore sands in the Taranaki region, he was rejected and I can tell you he didn't give a **** about the environmental impact.

Shane Jones has a conflict of interest being in the fast track committee - Stan Semenoff a mate and donor. David MacLeod was kicked off the fast track committee for not declaring his donations. His conflict of interest was Phil Brown - a shareholder of a seabed mining company and donor. Shane Jones has no place in the committee just like David MacLeod. Wouldn’t it be interesting to see where the 178’000 dollars David never declared ended up? I guess most was donations funnelled through to National HQ? The whole thing stinks like Shane’s lean Kina’s from the barren.
