Hi Uncle Knackers, I built this workbench because I have exactly the problem you describe - not enough room in my garage for a table and the cars. Winter is coming soon in Victor, Idaho and the cars need to live inside at night so I built this table in a day and it is going to really help when the snow flies to have some temporary work space. Projects can continue in the cold dark days ahead with the table folded up and put away at night and pulled out and useful during the day after snowblowing the driveway and moving the car outside. It was a fun and satisfying project and will be just the ticket for bigger and better projects coming up. Thanks for the fun video, just keep your day job if you decide to start your standup comedian career ;-)

Very nicely done! The excellent thing about this wall mounted bench/table is that when you release it from it's stored position, it can be wheeled to any location. If my memory serves me well, the others I have seen simply fold down off of the wall and stay remain attached to the wall on one side. Good thinking!

Thanks for that Juliet and the beauty with the wheels is they enable, when disengaged, the bench to sit flat on the ground which is great for stability! Thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺

Here's an upgrade tip for anyone wanting to build this. When the casters are on the wall they stick OUT. Istead, install the castors on the inside of the table legs so they point up & down to make them flush with the 4x4s

That is one stable work bench, for sure. And the folding and storing is quite useful. Great project! One little pro tip from a professional here: If you want to avoid splintering when you drill through wood, tightly clamp a scrap piece against your work piece and drill into it. This will hold your precious surface fibres in place and they'll go nowhere undesired. You can even pre drill a sacrificial piece and use it as a guide and tear-out-avoider for the top surface. That's complicated, but you can have clean entry and exit holes in your wood.

Hi there! I’ve made my workbench using your plans (that not-folding one). I use it for some time now and now I’m adding some shelves and drawers to it. Unfortunately walls in my shop are to thin to hold whole workbench and I don’t need folding table but we all know that the biggest fun is about creating it, using is just a side effect 😅. Thanks for this tutorial! 👍 Greetings from Poland! 🇵🇱

Shane, with this vid you've solved a vexing problem for me. That is how to make a table for folding laundry that itself can be folded up onto the wall out of the way while not in use. I don't need the table to stand on four legs and be mobile, but your folding leg design with a central strut to lock them in place can be modified for the front legs on a table hinged to the wall. Thanks, mate! By the way, I see that you used what could be a metal wall stud or maybe an aluminum rectangular box extrusion as your saw guide for making that long cut. That's another idea I like. Thanks, Shane.
@diyforknuckleheads
@diyforknuckleheads Жыл бұрын
Rick....this style of bench would be perfect for your laundry with just a few simple modifications 👍 The rectangle piece of metal is just a length of rectangle, box aluminium that l generally use as a straight edge which is also perfect for using with a circular saw to cut a straight line. Cheers mate 👍🇦🇺😁

Oh I understand the real problem! Your driver side is on the incorrect side! Problem solved. You're normally teaching us, it feels good to return the favor.

Love your work mate. Got a similar setup, but smaller and not on castors. My wife keeps asking when I'm going to fold it and move stuff so the car can get back in though.... :P

Another great job.. love the vids... If you drill the leg hole from the inside outwards (as in the centre mark you put on the leg) then you dont need to measure the outside of he table (05.48)

Okay, British accent--now I understand why in the etsy listing you say single car garages are the norm lol. Not the case here in the U.S. (at least around my area apart from oddball neighborhoods). My mom's side is almost all in England and year single car garages seem to be the norm there still
